Off to Neverland? The creators of the hit ABC show sit down with D23 to discuss what fans of the fantastical series can expect in the last three episodes of Season Two.
Once Upon A Time creators Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz are officially television’s knights in shining armor. They’ve managed to bring all our favorite fairy tales and characters together for one hour, each week on ABC.
The two producers just wrapped the second season of Once Upon A Time, which brilliantly blends the fairy-tale characters we know and love—many based on Disney’s telling of their stories—and expands their worlds beyond anything we could ever have imagined.
They also wrapped a pilot for the Once spin-off Wonderland, also for ABC, incorporating some of the characters we have already met with new ones we hopefully will.
Eddy and Adam took a few moments from their busy production schedules to give us an exclusive sneak peak at Once Upon A Time‘s final three episodes of the season, which will begin airing this Sunday, as well as a few hints as to what’s down the rabbit hole in Wonderland!
Once Upon a Time recreates iconic moments and settings from classic fairy tales, as seen here in this behind-the-scenes shot of a storybook cottage.
So, what can fans look forward to in the final three episodes of the season?
Eddy: Well, I think the fans can look forward to kind of the culmination of everything we set up this year. Who are Greg and Tamara, who do they work for, do they work for anyone, what’s their agenda?
Adam: What’s really behind everything they’re doing, and how is that going to impact on every single one of our characters? I think we’re bringing all those things to a head in a way we find exciting, and we think hopefully will be really surprising to the audience as well.
Eddy: We are going to dive more into how Lacy affects Rumpelstiltskin, or Mr. Gold, and how that affects his relationship with his son.
Obviously, Lacy enjoying Rumplestiltskin’s darker side is a bit of a weight off his shoulders, unless, of course, she gets her actual memory back, in which case you’ve got to wonder, is she going to be twice as horrified?
Eddy: Well, it depends what he does when he’s with Lacy, I suppose, you know? Belle brings out the best in Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin, and Lacy brings out the worst, and it’s a lot easier to have someone bring out the worst in you. You get to try a lot less.
So the last two episodes are titled “Second Star to the Right” and “And Straight On ‘Til Morning.”
Adam: (grinning) Just randomly titled. No significance to those titles at all.
Eddy: We are going to be finding out a bit about Baelfire, and Captain Hook. There’s no coincidence with those titles.
Adam: Obviously, we’d like to keep a surprise, but you know, Baelfire/Neal and Hook have a connection that we’ve already hinted at, and that’s something that’s explored in the final two hours of the season. And that may involve a second star to the right.

All I see is the game changer for Emma and Regina which results in THEIR RELATIONSHIP changing and moving to a new place. Hopefully they don't mean it literally, like to Neverland although I'd take anything with those two.
ReplyDeleteIts most likely all about Emma saving regina from Tamara/Greg.
ReplyDeleteThat or/and Henry's abduction. They will have to work together to get him back. AND Maleficent is back!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what to make from this, I think it might be putting their differences aside and put Henry first and foremost in the future. Even after they save him, but who knows. Game-changer usually means something significant is about to go down.
ReplyDeleteAlso f**k yes, Malificent is back? can't wait.
"Eddy: Emma and Regina have a game-changer.
ReplyDeleteAdam: Their relationship is going to change. It moves to a new place."
YES!!!! I literally screamed at the screen "Swan Queen"!!!!!
Also, looks like we're going to see Maleficent in the flashbacks! My thinking is that Rumple won't agree to change Regina into the old hag so she will go to talk to Mallie instead...
this is good stuff
ReplyDeleteI'm not exactly a Swan Queen shipper, but if they do in fact take their relationship down that path, I'll give the writers a standing ovation. Not only because it makes sense (for those who think it doesn't, go read heartsways, fictorium, and several other author's fanfic), but mostly because it is quite bold.
ReplyDeleteBut how is that a change in pace? Emma did that already. And then Regina saved Emma and MM from the green curse. It will only be a change if it leads to something else, and I don't think it has to be romantic, simply something other than saving her life and getting back to ignoring each other's existence (as much as possible anyway).
ReplyDeleteFanfic is one thing, but the writers for the show haven't led us to believe that is going to happen.I highly doubt anything like that will ever happen on that show and certainly not if Disney has anything to do with it..It might be bold, but i think its to bold for Disney's standards.
ReplyDeleteFrankly, I'm game for most Regina ships, but I don't see the appeal of Swan Queen. Emma this season bores me to death. :/
ReplyDeleteIf they want to show a lesbian couple, I'd much rather see Regina/Ruby (or Ruby/Belle if they have the nerve to face the wrath of Rumbelles).
Of course they don't have to do the same thing fanfic does, all I'm saying is fanfic gives you a perspective from the characters that shows it is quite possible to see Emma and Regina as a couple.
ReplyDeleteBut I agree, I don't think it will happen. Not because of Disney, but because of the audience. You'd have a PG13 show, transmitted in one of the biggest networks in the US, on Sunday, at 8/7c, with a lesbian couple formed from two of the main characters. This could have bad repercussions from viewers. Is ABC willing to take that risk? However, I think it would be VERY interesting for the story and, most of all, a hell of a step forward for gay rights. Hence why I will give them a standing O in case they do it.
Emma being boring is one of the reasons why I think her having a relationship with Regina might be a good idea. But, as I said, I'm not a Swan Queen shipper. I think it could be a good idea, as long as they explored the right issues, but I highly doubt it will ever go that far. Besides, I don't even know if JMo would be willing to do it. I'm sure Lana would, but I've never read or heard any interviews from Jennifer saying she would be ok with playing a lesbian character.
ReplyDeleteA PG13 show that involved torture even in the latest episode, and slavery, violence and murder on a regular basis. *queue Lana's reaction to "It's a family show" during the Paleyfest panel*
ReplyDeleteI'd say that they get away with a lot.
It would be a seriously bold move, but I too, think they won't dare to go that route. That being said, I honestly don't see the problem. A lot of stuff on the show so-far has been borderline, hell Lacey featured sexual assault, torture, flaying someone? etc. But the thing is, Emma and Regina being main characters might make it a difficult sell for the audience that doesn't want to see this happening.
ReplyDeleteThere has been a lot of foreshadowing so far though. And we still haven't seen the payoff to Daniel saying to Regina 'love again'
Personally I'd be happy if they stop feuding/fighting and decide to co-parent Henry. And maybe Regina helps Emma with her magic to stop her from turning into her, while Emma helps Regina connect to others (and Henry specifically) I'd be ecstatic if we got that. I'll get my fix from the fic (hell I'm writing it myself XD) there's always fix-it-fic for what we can't have.
Seems promising, hopefully it actually lives up to it. Also, Maleficient is back!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah.. definitely adding those two to the Shonda Rhimes category of showrunners....
ReplyDeleteSeason 1, I remember being so awed while watching each episode, and I was always left wanting to see the next episode immediately. The episodes actually felt magical.
ReplyDeleteSeason 2 has not made me feel like that. I've been struggling to get excited for each episode, sometimes not even watching it until Saturday, so I can keep up with the next episode. There were some good ones, but as a whole, this season has really lost a lot of its luster. I really hope this season finale is awesome, and can get back that feeling of magic from season 1. At least make me anticipate and hope for a great season 3.
As it is, I couldn't care less about Greg and Tamara. I hope their story ends quickly and soon. They're now sucking Hook into their vortex of suck. "Nealfire" isn't looking any better being so easily conned by Tamara either. And Emma's "power" to detect lies is a joke. I could go on, but I've already made paragraphs. :") Please, please, writers...write our characters to be smarter than they've acted so far.
