Nikita's future is at risk, Warner Brothers' negotiations with the CW seems to have paused as the CW evaluates its pilots and decides how many to pick up for next season.
The CW could pick up as many as 5 pilots to series (in addition to "The Originals" which will not need significant marketing given its relation to "Vampire Diaries") and its renewal is unlikely to come long before the upfronts as WB may have a 'package deal' with the CW for renewing Nikita and series orders for its pilots: 'The Tomorrow People', 'The Selection' and 'The Hundred' all of which are said to have a shot.
There is a small chance Nikita could be cancelled and a full season order doesn't seem to be on the table at this point but it could comes close, the episode count will once again depend on how many pilots the CW picks up and could be anywhere from 6 to 18 episode. For now WB executives are hoping CBS pilots 'Blink', 'Company Town', 'Oxygen' and 'Reign' do not test well.

Hmm....".package deals"...
ReplyDeleteNikita fans, you better root for "The Tomorrow People", "The Selection", and "The Hundred",
I think Oxygen may get picked up.
Well according to Deadline's recent update, OXYGEN, TOMORROW PEOPLE, THE 100 and REIGN all screened well while THE SELECTION didn't right?
ReplyDeleteI guess this explains what the negotiations were about.
ReplyDeleteIt worries me all the new 'information' coming out about Nikita and it's renewal/cancellation. I'm just going to avoid all related articles, and wait for May Upfronts.
ReplyDeleteI feel like I'm gonna throw up! :'(
ReplyDeletethey didnt screen yet Network executives have seem rough cuts/dailies mostly alot of full pilots were just handed in this week but test screenings and focus groups for the CW had not started when deadline posted their article
ReplyDeleteNooooooooo! I love Nikita so much. I will be so disappointed if they cancel it. I has such strong storylines that keep you interested and the characters are great. This stinks.
ReplyDeletenoooooo pleaseee I jut want nikita season 4 pleaseeee
ReplyDeleteThe cast and crew of Nikita have made statements about how this season has a cliffhanger-ish ending. Now, keep in mind that the first 2 seasons did NOT - the S2 finale, in fact, could have easily served as a series finale. It's evident that the writers were prepared for possible cancellation and wrote season finales that wouldn't leave the viewers hanging if that happened. I can only assume they decided to end S3 with a cliffhanger because the network led them to believe they're getting renewed. If they cancel the show now, without an ending, they're absolute douchebags.
ReplyDeleteI'm aware of the ratings situation but honestly, it's not like they have some other show they're dying to put on Friday. Their 3 big shows aren't going to be wasted there, and a new show won't be premiered on the worst night of the week. That leaves BatB and HoD and I don't think anyone can honestly say those would do better than Nikita in the same slot. (Not to mention, they already have 1 vacant Friday slot, cancel Nikita too and they have to find a way to fill both.)
I'd take 3 episodes, just give me a proper ending
ReplyDeleteLike I said in my comment, The CW are REAL d-bags if they cancel the show now because they'd probably given the producers the impression that the show is going to be renewed. Why else would Craig and co. write a cliffhanger for the S3 finale? They specifically avoided that in the first 2 seasons.
ReplyDeleteThey know they don't have anything that's going to rate well in Nikita's slot (except TVD, et al which aren't moving there). Might as well give it a short season, even 10 eps, and a proper sendoff.
I'm legit having a p/a! I'm just so disgusted and sick to my stomach. I can't even..
ReplyDeleteAccording to the cast of 90210, that show didnt get a proper ending either cause Pedowitz announced it was cancelled just before the filming of of the finale started and after it was written so one of the actresses filmed her own for YouTube
ReplyDeletePlease CW renewal Nikita ...the best show on the cw :)))
ReplyDeleteBut Brandy, this is different! The cast has wrapped filming! Maggie is filming Divergent and the rest of the cast has headed back home. It's too late now! They need to renew the show for at least 6 episodes.
ReplyDeleteI don't see it getting cancelled but fans who were expecting 22 episodes are going to have to settle for at least 13 at most?
ReplyDeleteNOOOOO THIS ISNT FAIR!!! FUCK THE ORIGINALS !! NIKITA NEED TO GET RENEWED!!!
ReplyDeleteHow is different? 90210 didnt have time for a proper finale and Nikita wont either if its cancelled. It was too late for 90210 to rewrite the finale as they were a week away frim shooting it when the cancellation announcement came.
ReplyDeleteI remember that, and I think they mistreated 90210 and its fans - they had to scramble to rewrite the finale at the last minute, so it's probably not too satisfying. Considering 90210's ratings had been low for a while, they could have announced the cancellation a month or two earlier and given the writers time to craft a proper wrap-up.
ReplyDeleteHowever, it will be even worse if they cancel Nikita because the filming for this season has already ended. There's no possibility of even a hasty rewrite for the sake of closure. It'll end on a cliffhanger.
So basicly Nikita's survival depends on the pilots??
ReplyDeleteI'll take anything just give it a proper ending and give me my Mikita wedding!
Yeah. I'm still surprised by the whole thing actually, since most people believed that once the show got a third season, a *full* fourth one was a guarantee for get to the "magic" 88 number. Now, certainly the ratings are dreadful, but compared to last year's they fit in with the overall pattern of the year-to-year drop in ratings all networks (and shows) experience. I don't see how The CW is surprised by Nikita's ratings this season. Sure, they *could* have been better but not by much, considering what they were already like in the final reel of last season.
ReplyDeleteI know it's only the studio that benefits from syndication, international sales etc. and not the network, but it always comes back to the same question: why didn't The CW cancel Nikita last year, then? Did they honestly believe its ratings would improve this year? There must be more to this than we know.
I think they were expecting to be notified, but it came way too late into filming.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.spoilertv.com/2013/01/90210-producers-expecting-to-be.html
Not to discourage any Nikita fans but keep in mind the CW is a joint venture and I doubt CBS will be remotely thrilled with having just BatB and its average ratings As their sole show. Expect at least one new CBS show, even if its garbage. But I'd think oxygen and either company town or blink will be picked up in addition to the three Warner bros pilots. What that means for Nikki I don't know. This is becoming quite the history changing year for the CW.
ReplyDeleteAt least they still had episode 22 to film. What part of that don't you understand? If you paid attention, the 90210 writers tweaked the finale script. Nikita's writers can't do that because they've finished filming. I know you HATE NIKITA! But seriously; now's one of those moments where if you don't have anything good to say, do yourself a favor and just don't say anything.
ReplyDeleteI just think the package deal stuff is nonsense. Nikita will be back despite the pilots being picked up.
ReplyDeleteMaybe if they see more potential for their pilots so they can put in the Nikita slow after 13 episodes. Like Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeletebut people were expecting/hoping for 22 episodes.
ReplyDeletewhy the hell are dragging the originals in this crap??
ReplyDeleteWe got the Thanksgiving break in regards to Gossip Girl but that was it, it was done by the first week of December if I remember right, so yeah basically straight through
ReplyDeleteGreat (NOT!) IF The CW is able to premiere another 5-6 shows next Fall and If Nikita is not renewed at all SPN fans have more cause to worry about getting "sent back" to Fridays because The CW never premieres a new show on Friday. Just because SPN performed/is performing very well this year potentially won't mean squat if The CW wants Arrow and HoD to lead into new shows and leaves B&TB at 9 pm - but does not move B&TB to Fridays as it deserves for its poor performance - Monday - Wednesday, for example (assuming Arrow changes nights). Granted The CW can save a few shows for mid-season starts.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, I will be very irked if SPN is dumped back on Fridays!
I CAN see Nikita getting a shortened season and sharing a timeslot with ANTM but that still leaves the 9 pm slot completely open.
Supernatural has had 8 seasons.Sorry I am not very concerned about It.The CW banished smallville for final 2 seasons on friday.
ReplyDeleteI don't give a damn about any new shows except the Originals. And this treatment for nikita Isn't helping.
ReplyDeleteStupid Dawn Ostroff tried to kill both shows and failed.
ReplyDeletewhat do they think Is going to do better than Nikita on Friday.Arrow and Vampire diaires Isn't going to Friday.I doudt supernatural will since It's Is darling of new regime. No new show Is going to premiere there.Do they think Hart of dixie or beauty and the beast will do so much better?
ReplyDeleteI am going to be pissed If It gets 6 episodes while the piece of crap that was Gossip Girl got 10 episodes for It's final season.
Well if Nikita *does* get renewed and it says in an article that the WB or CW used the bargaining chips of the new shows, you may have to consider some thought about them.
ReplyDeleteThe WB may throw a bone or the CW may concede on something with it comes to NIkita.
Gossip Girls was seen as a flagship show and had better ratings in it's history...
ReplyDeleteoh come on man!!! just give it the shortened season so we can get some closure!!!
ReplyDeleteThe CW could have helped It get better ratings. They have done nothing. They do terrable job of promating It.America's next top model as lead In?Seriously.
ReplyDeleteIt should have been paried with Arrow.
At least a final season of Nikita would be better than final season of Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteAs a lead in? Paired after Arrow?
ReplyDeleteExactly right! I don't give a flying monkey how many vote downs I get by the Beasties..(I don' t know if are a Beastie, Chris.) Dawn O tried to kill SMV and SPN but failed miserably and Mark P rewarded SPN's refusal to die with being moved out of Friday "where most shows are sent to die".
ReplyDeleteHere's an interesting comment on tvbtn's:
ReplyDelete"Interesting that WBTV could blackmail The CW to renew Nikita if they want to pick up any WBTV pilots."
Does this make you feel better, Nikita fans?
It would be dumb to move it back there when it's doing better on a Wednesday.

ReplyDeleteHad better ratings when it first started, it crashed and burned in the later seasons, especially the last 2.
ReplyDeleteThat showed what Idiots the CW was.Smallville was the real flagship of CW till It was banished to friday. Then It was Vampire diaires.Smallville on firday even got better ratings than Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteAfter arrow.
ReplyDeleteI doudt Supernatural goes to friday again. They will probally move It to tuesday and give another show the post Arrow slot.
ReplyDeleteWhy in the world would they pair the worst rated CW show with their most promising new pilot? That makes no sense business wise. Nikita was the lowest renewed show last year and most people were quite frankly surprised when it was renewed. No way they were going to pair that with the show they hoped would revive the network.
ReplyDeleteit is quite li9kely to be renewed for 10 episode final season accordibng to TVLine. I agree that it won't get a full season there's just not ebough of a benefit to syndicate it since it would barely pull in any viewership in syndication, I say there probaly going for a proper sendoff rather then syndication. And the only reason it hasn't been renewed yet is because Craig Silverstein was working on the AMC Pilot "Turn" so wasn't able to pitch season 4 to the CW yet.I think it is very unlikely the Selection will be picked up to series. It will probaly follow the same fate as last pilot season.
ReplyDeletehere's my predictions for the schedule.
Mondays
Beauty and the Beast
Hart of Dixie
Tuesdays
The Hundred
Supernatural
Wednesdays
Arrow
Tomorrow People
Thursdays
Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Fridays
Oxygen
Nikita (Fall 2013)
Reign (Winter 2013)
Given the abundance of genre oriented pilots, I have no worries about Supernatural. They need to fix Mondays and Tuesdays more than Fridays. Supernatural has proven to have a fandom that follows it around so I see it going to one of those 2 nights, probably Tuesday since that's known as CW's death slot. No other show besides Arrow would be capable of launching a successful night. Originals might have had a chance but since they have played it safe with their renewals, no way they are going to go bold with their scheduling. Originals will go to Thursdays and VD isn't moving.
ReplyDeleteI do hope that even if it doesn't get picked up for shorter season, it might actually grant it with a special 2 hour episode ending.... just a hope...
ReplyDeleteThat shouldn't be too too hard.
ReplyDeleteVD,HoD,The Originals are joint CBS/WB shows, but BatB is the only CBS show on cws schedule for next season right now.I expect two to three CBS pilots to be picked up to make it balanced between CBS and WB shows.
ReplyDeleteI realize that. I was just surprised that most pilots were not joint ventures also. It seems the way they were leaning.
ReplyDeleteYea, if they did that, the CW would be a laughingstock (not that it isn't already).
ReplyDeleteJust give NIKITA a full season pick up or 21 ep CW. Or do the CW want to make warner mad the studio that gave them TVD,SPN.ARROW ect.. NOWAY any of the other shows can do better than Nikita on a Friday when they get 0.4 and 0.5 on the weekdays NOWAY can they do better thn Nikita doe for the CW on fridays
ReplyDeleteI think CBS holds more weight in this situation...
ReplyDeletewhy would CBS hold more weight CBS has nothing to do with CBS shows. Isn't warner and CBS owning the CW together so if warner stays out of CBS shows why would CBS interfere with warner shows. I don't get it what you are trying to say here?
ReplyDeleteOh for God's sake! It seems we fans of this show have to go through this every year. Just renew it and go for syndication and reap the benefits. Maggie Q is a huge star in Hong Kong, which is now part of China and how many people will get a new TV this year? I get it, I'm not a network exec, I know nothing about numbers, advertisers, etc, but I keep hoping that another cable network with some guts might pick it up. Wishful thinking, but it got Southland a few more seasons.
ReplyDeleteI feel so sorry for Nikita for being in the CW. It's too damn good for a shitty network. It doesn't deserve this kind of treatment.
ReplyDeleteIf Nikita is cancelled now, then this is bad news for not only Nikita but also HoD, Arrow, and B&tB, or in other words, this is bad news for any show that is younger than Nikita whose fans are hoping will continue airing until at least reaching syndication.
ReplyDeleteI for one hope to see Nikita renewd and will hate to see them not renewing it.
Not surprised .Nikita 's recent rating are abysmal to say the least .It is always .3 and rarely gets a .4.Not to mention is comparatively expensive to produce to other shows.
ReplyDeleteI'm a broken record on this but I can't help wondering how Nikita would've done on a more respectable network or cable channel. I for one firmly believe The CW's reputation has hurt its ratings - people don't believe there can be a smart action drama for adults on this network.
ReplyDeleteI doubt that's even possible. Can The WB afford not to give The CW *any* pilots if Nikita is cancelled? Methinks people are getting carried away and acting like they know everything about what goes on behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteI feel bad for the Nikita cast and crew, they are being treated like crap. They should move TVD and Arrow to Fridays, put Nikita on a better day and give them a full 4th season.
ReplyDeleteI will follow SPN anywhere of course but I don't want the show to move to Friday until "the final season" (S13! Lol). I prefer SPN where it is now next year but I can also see The CW choosing to take the risk of separating Arrow/SPN next year and moving SPN to it's original timeslot on Tuesday at 9.
ReplyDeleteBut where would HoD go? If the CW's next season "logic" is pairing Arrow and SPN with "new" shows to *hopefully* have at least 3 nights doing well, then HoD is moved to M to anchor or lead out a new show or F. HoD is performing moderately well by CW standards right where is now if The CW hopes to it get S4 before 2016. B&TB has to move and as with HoD and SPN (if The CW moves it) is where will they go? I guess we'll see on or before May 16.
If they pick up Company Town, I see HoD paired with it, perhaps on Mondays. In all honesty they could also throw HoD to Fridays knowing it is there for syndication. I still think they really concentrate on fixing 1.5 - 2 days next season when they have 3.5 to fix. Thursday is a definite focus and either Mondays or Tuesdays. The rest will be lower priority. They don't have the money to do anything else.
ReplyDeleteThat's why I would keep Wednesday's next year as Arrow/SPN because it works. TVD/The Originals *should* work. I would keep HoD where it is and pair B&TB with Nikita because they are both mixtures of romance/focus on relationships/action-adventure. That pairing, combined with ANTM in summer to Fall should be compatible. If Oxygen gets picked up, then Oxygen/B&TB pairing should go on M or T and HoD gets moved to Friday especially if Company Town or Blink (sounds awful) doesn't get picked up. SPN can move to Friday for it's final season not next season. The CW can pick up a few shows for midseason just as they did this year,
ReplyDelete"Not to mention, they already have 1 vacant Friday slot, cancel Nikita too and they have to find a way to fill both."
ReplyDeletePrecisely, that's why I think Nikita will get at least a short season, possibly sharing the timeslot with ANTM, or moving Nikita to 9 Pm once ANTM finishes it's cycle and running another show at 8 pm when ANTM vacates. That may mean moving a "renewed show" - with the exception of SPN if The CW wastes it on Fridays next year - from 9 pm back to 8 pm. Worst case, with two mid-season shows next season, The CW ends up a little better off than this year assuming one or two new shows get renewed to replace Nikita in 2015.
because CW wants a balance of WB and CBS shows.
ReplyDelete0.3 ratings won't endear the show to any other networks.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Starz since it's own shows can't get more than 500,000 viewers!
Now that would make the CW more of a laughingstock than it already is.
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure he/she was just doling out wishful thinking, saying that Nikita is a much better show than Arrow and TVD so it should be moved off Friday and they should be sent there. I don't think anyone honestly believes there's a snowball's chance of (any of) that happening, unless they're on drugs...
ReplyDeleteYes and no, if it was that expensive, it would've been canceled after 1 season.
ReplyDeleteThe ratings clearly weren't a factor considering it was renewed last year with a 0.4.
ReplyDeleteI don't think s/he was serious. The CW is already a laughing stock and it's sinking each season. They would have to be completely brain dead to move their top 3 shows into the Friday death slot, well Dawn Ostroff was when she tried and failed to kill Supernatural/Smallville.
ReplyDeleteAs long as they don't finish it with to be continued, and give the show some kind of conclusion I'll be ok!!!
ReplyDelete
