I rarely say this, but I wish I hadn't read that Castle spoiler. I have been waiting for The Captain to find out about Caskett for the whole season, and now that's ruined for me.
I'm not sure what story Carver thinks he's telling this season, but I'm definitely not sure it's the one we're seeing. The hug fixed everything? To me it was Dean forgiving and forgetting again, which resolved nothing. Sam still hasn't apologized or been held accountable for not looking for him, for ignoring Kevin, for misjudging Benny, for blowing off his responsibilities. But the hug made it all better? And he keeps using the term 'the boys' to describe these trials, but in reality he means "Sam." Why is he pretending Dean is involved other than Sam's babysitter when he isn't? I'm not buying it. So they pretty much wasted an entire season with ill-fated love stories, flashbacks that ended up meaningless, contrived tension between the boys, and now are going to stir things up with the last three eps. And then they may not close the gates at all? Then what was all this for? Of course, closing the gates really solves very little, monsters will still be out there, it's just demons that will be trapped. I wondered about this huge plot hole from the start. They're eliminating one small faction of monsters, but not the majority, so it's not like it's going to solve anything. I'm confused as to what Carver thinks he's accomplished besides making one of his lead characters unlikable and the other look like a sap. If it can all be explained in three episodes, I wonder why he bothered to make the other 20?
Agreed. I'm so happy right now that I've already seen the episode before I read this. It was pretty obvious for me as well that she already knew, but the surprise while watching was still there because I had of course no idea they would reveal that right there in that moment. The scene was awesome by the way, you can look forward to it =)
That hug was great but it does not wipe away an entire season of Sam acting out-of-character. Sam would look for Dean - he has proven it time and time again in earlier episodes and seasons. Carver makes up his own canon - and the comment that they "agreed not to look" was pure bullsh** made up by Carver. Season 8 has been, by far, the worst season. Not one episode stands out as great and they are all tainted by the OOC behavior of Sam not looking.
- Thea and Oliver have a conversation? That doesn't happen much anymore. - Katherine torturing Elena? That's kind of great. I really want to see how that turns out. - Why the hell do they keep bringing up revenge when talking about SPN? What the Winchesters are doing isn't revenge. If they had never heard of Crowley they'd still be trying to close off Hell. It's the right thing to do. How could it not be? - I'm all for normal spoilers but that Castle spoiler was too much. - Forget Kenya Rosewater on Defiance. I want to see more of that surly doctor. She's funny.
Supernatural - Sorry Jeremy Carver but now that you only have 3 episodes left and have done basically nothing all season towards the mytharc, I can see why you need to kick it into gear. Bah! Same pacing problems Supernatural has had since the beginning. I also don't think you have a clue what the brother bond is about. One hug does not erase an entire season of OOC brothers. Of course since the brothers don't get to do anything anyway (except the last episode - thanks for those breadcrumbs by the way. I was starving for Winchester heroes.), I guess it doesn't matter if they are in character or not. I hope the people from Being Human are missing you and offer you a hug salary increase to come back.
Arrow - The idea of Oliver confronting a clueless Roy amuses me, but I think it's going to be the conversation after Roy find out the truth that's going to be the real kicker.
For me it's more like the hug doesn't change anything based on the previews we've seen for next week. The brothers are still chaffing at each other. They don't seem like they are on the same page at all. If they hadn't been in a rift or at odds the entire freaking season it probably wouldn't bother me but with the past episodes, everything rifty grates. If he really wanted the brothers to mend things, he would have had them both doing the trials but since he sucks as a show runner, that was obviously out of the question. At this point I am with you in questioning what the whole point was and if Jeremy Carver actually has a vision at all. If he does, it certainly does not involve the Supernatural of the first 7 seasons. In the end I find myself asking the exact same question as you about the last 3 episodes: "If it can all be explained in three episodes, I wonder why he bothered to make the other 20?"
Ha! So glad someone else loves the doctor on Defiance. She was my favorite character in the pilot. I hope we get more of her snarky self tonight.
Arrow - It says conversation but it doesn't say how long. Here's hoping it's more than Thea making a casual remark as she's heading out the door. I agree that they need more sibling time, especially since Thea makes Oliver more human most of the time.
Supernatural - Not only is it NOT revenge as you pointed out, but we have also answered the question of how far the brothers would go for revenge by the end of season 4. And in plots that actually made sense.
Love the doctor! She takes crap from nobody. :) loved her just casually sitting in all the blood like it was no big thing. But what's with the big Chewbacca lookalike?
So true. From the clip we saw it didn't look like anything changed. So the magic hug wasn't really magic at all. I'm not sure, like you said, Carver has a vision. At least not one that resembles Supernatural. I'm at a loss to explain the point of the first 20 episodes since nothing has really been accomplished and nothing has been resolved or even explained. So now it's jumping into high gear because of necessity. They ran out of filler and actually have to waste these last three eps on mythology.
Agreed. With Sam unrecognizable, and Dean regressed to one dimensional behavior, the hug was pure fan service. Maybe he actually thought we were clueless enough to buy that it would fix everything? Despite having fixed nothing? I have no idea how he can fix it -- if it's even possible -- without a complete do-over. I'd really like to like Sam again. But until there is some explanations or accountability I can't see how.
IMO i think we have more episodes toward the mytharc than the 2 last years. In S6 the real problem was about the Purgatory/Souls thinks of Cass and Crowley that we didn't know anything about 'til the last 3-4 episodes of the season. Unless you count the ''searching Sam's problem and soul'' or the Mother of All episodes as ''moving forward''. It could be just me, but with the Sam,s thing I was searching a real sens of bad guy/big storyarc above the boys problems and I found the Mother pretty useless for the little time she was in.
And in S7, everytime there was a leviathan it was ''Run like hell!'' with no clue about what they really wanted and we had no clue, no moving forward about how to kill them 'til the 3-4 last episodes again. This year, I'm not denying the pacing problems, but at least we had some searching of the tablet early, we had the 7th episode, and Trial and Error later, Goodbye Stranger...and even if Taxi Driver had a lot of problems, it stil existed and was still moving forward. And with Abbabon coming back, I have a feeling the Man of Letter introduction wasn't such a filer after all. Could've been more episodes, but it's a lot more than what we've had in S6-7
As for the Sam not looking, Carver seems to be very aware of the problem this has caused within the fandom, judging from the interviews in the past weeks. I still think he did it on purpose to rattle the fandom and I guess it will be addressed/sloved again before the season ends. As for Dean forgiving Sam for not looking for him, that's Dean as we know him, he would forgive his Sammy, no matter what. We might not like it, but that's Dean, he can't let go of his brother, that has not changed since the pilot, and never will. Last episode illustrated that rather well. No one has see the remaining 3 episodes, how can you be so sure that it won't get explained/solved/addressed again?
Re: SPN - I'm wondering if the how far will they willing to sacrifice part might be a decision between closing the gates of Hell vs what Sam is suffering because of the trials. That would certainly be a 'how far' type decision, but who knows. Other than 2 blah eps, totally enjoying S8, esp how they are ramping it up for the end of the season, of course knowing full well they have a S9 coming.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Even taking out the OOC Sam they created, this season has been tainted by a lot of things although that was the worst.
ReplyDeleteConsidering how extensive the doctor's prosthetic makeup is, I hope they'll use her enough to make going through that process worthwhile.
ReplyDeleteHa! Maybe they shoot 2-3 episodes of her in one day. That explains why she never leaves the hospital set.
ReplyDeleteLove the doctor! She takes crap from nobody. :) loved her just casually sitting in all the blood like it was no big thing. But what's with the big Chewbacca lookalike?

That's a conversation between Ollie, Thea, and Roy that takes place on a public place so probably not long. JustJared covered filming this scene then.
ReplyDeleteLiked the TVD spoiler :D
