Dexter - Season 8 is the Final Season

18 Apr 2013

It’s finally officially official: Dexter season 8 will be the serial killer thriller’s last season. For real. For sure. For certain 100 percent.

Showtime has confirmed the leakiest secret in the TV industry Thursday by announcing this summer’s outing will be Dexter Morgan’s final trip to his kill table. The decision was widely speculated and hinted for months. Even Showtime’s parent company CEO Les Moonves couldn’t resist slipping the news into a recent interview. This is the first time the network has publicly confirmed the news.

  1. Glad we've finally got it confirmed. Hopefully the writers went in anticipating this (I can't see how they couldn't) and give us an amazing final season!

  2. It is for the best, only so long they can continue the story before Dexter (and Debs) just kill everyone in Miami for finding out his secret

    Thank god. Finally it's confirmed.

  4. Well, at least it is known now. I actually feel the show still had more life left in it now that Deb knew the truth, I think they could do a lot more. Still, this means we are in for a killer season. If it is as good as season 7 was I will be very happy. Will be very sad to see it go though, I love Dexter.

  5. Uh, almost 2 years ago the network publicly confirmed the news... I swear I read that and it was even linked here.

  6. I recall that too, but apparently that was official news to Showtime so it's been forgotten I guess.

  7. Good. I hate it when I see an amazing show at it's best start losing it's quality a little bit more at each season to finally die slowly and painfully at the end of a season with two numbers. Seeing a show you loved end like that is just horrible. It's like, the pancreatic cancer of TV shows. I saw House ending like that, I'm happy this won't be the case for Dexter. May you leave us in all your glory! :)

  8. A series by Showtime is ending? This can't be!

  9. House did end like that. Good point.

  10. I think what happened then is that they announced S7 and S8 and didn't confirm S8 was the last but even back then most people thought it would be.

  11. Bittersweet news. I can't wait for this season while I don't want to see the ending.

  12. "For real. For sure. For certain 100 percent." I'm afraid of what that means. I hope they won't kill him. I wouldn't survive this.

  13. Hey! Even if they kill off everyone in Miami, there's still the rest of the world, isn't it?

  14. Agree. With Deb knowing we have a lot we can work on. But the show is running long enough, and it would be hard for the writers and producers to come up with an interesting story (we didn't had before). On the other side: aren't they paid to do exactly that? Create and develop a new story?
I kinda hoped for one more season. But I trust they know what they're doing.

  15. As long as they don't kill Dex and Deb I can live with it.

  16. And Supernatural gets another early renewal.

  17. Don't forget the alternate universe!

  18. Nooo, damn... Dexter is one of these shows I could watch forever and never get tired of it...

  19. I hope neither of them dies, but I wouldn't be completely shocked if Dex dies.

  20. They more than hinted that Dexter would die this final season

  21. The House finale was a terrible annoying cop-out

  22. Alternate universe? Sorry, but this is not Buffy or Supernatural or Stargate.

  23. If you ask me, I would love a happy end. Dex, Deb and Harry as a happy family (if Dex and Deb are together as a couple or just as brother and sister, I don't care). But I'm worried about the "For real. For sure. For certain 100 percent." The only way a show won't return (100%) is if the actor or the main character dies. That's why I'm afraid they will kill Dex or put him in jail.

  24. ...or Fringe... :)

  25. How could I forget Fringe? Didn't like the end. I liked Walter. He was crazy and weird, but I liked him.

  26. Dexter: BloodRed Universe Edition. I'd watch it.

  27. You have to look at it from a logical standpoint. Dexter is a serial killer and there is NO WAY someone like that can realistically survive in the world he lives in. He works for Miami Dade metro, his own sister is a cop, two of his co workers, doakes and laguerta have died because of his actions, and then there's his wife Rita, who fell victim to the trinity killer, because Dexter dropped his guard and trinity caught on to him. So after all that, I don't see a positive scenario for dexter

  28. I know that Dexter is a serial killer. So was Trinity. He killed 30 years before he was even discovered. Lundy found out he exists. But he is dead now. Deb found him. But she would never betray Dex. So, the only one who could be really dangerous to Dex is Batista (the best cop they have on Miami Metro, Besides Deb). And he plans to retire. Besides remember Dex rule no 1: Don't get caught. If he's careful they won't find him. He was killing 15 years or so, before they found the first pile of bodies.
I just hope there is a possibility of a happy end. Dex and Deb and Harry as a happy family.

  29. Just because he thinks he is CAREFUL doesn't make it so

    ReplyDelete
  30. I'm not saying that Dex deserves this fate, but it is warented

  31. Alternate universe? Sorry, but this is not Buffy or Supernatural or Stargate.
