It appears the CW will not be airing anymore episodes of Cult. It has been pulled from the schedule.
"The Carrie Diaries" and "Oh, Sit." repeats will replace it, Oh, Sit!
It's funny I remember early last year I think or maybe even end of 2011 when it first announced and had a lot of buzz about it. How things can quickly change.
I can understand them cancelling it, but they should not pull it from the schedule IMO, CW isn't known for doing that, they should atleast air all 13 episodes, so fans can see how it ends
Considering all the controversy of racism surrounding Matt Davis as well as barely lukewarm critical reception of the show, its not surprising it failed.
I wonder what plothole retcon will TVD do to un-kill Alaric now
A little suprised, normally CW lets shows run all the episodes, repeats wont do much better and now cw wont be able to run reruns of a few of thier shows over the summer cause theyve used the three times showing a episode plus I dont think affilites are happy with cw not programming 10 hours a week of original programming theure contracted to.I knew Cult would be cancelled though, but too bad for it fans who may not get to see the rest of the series, even if it ends in a cliffhanger and ends there.
Not surprised at all about this cancellation, but I don't see how some "oh sit" repeats could fix the ratings. So you're probably right, it's all about loosing money in producing the next episodes. Too bad.
They filmed the whole season before it even started airing. So it's been all finished for awhile. It is possible they'll use the rest of the eps later on or release it online.
I can see them cancelling next season due to production, but they filmed the whole first season before it even started airing. Pulling it now must mean severe worries about advertising dollars. Maybe we'll get it online or they'll make some money back by releasing it on Netflix.
Sad as it is, I'm not surprised that it won't get a second season. Sent to Fridays, up against Grimm...
For me... I liked the intrigue they were building. But they were a little too successful in making the "TV show portion" extremely cliched, which is what they were trying to do, and I get why -- but it just turned me off. They probably utilize Tal and Knepper's talents more later in the season, but as it currently was.. it was almost painful.
But the whole season was filmed in advance, so it is possible they'll release eps later, on TV or online. Whether it is advertising dollars or not wanting this show on during May sweeps... hopefully fans will get to see the rest in some form. Maybe they'll be able to sell it to Netflix and make some money back.
Sorry for the fans, even though we knew this was coming. I *am* surprised they pulled it from the schedule since all 13 eps have been produced already, so it's not like replacing it with repeats saves money. Obviously, it sucks all the more for Cult's (small) audience that it won't even finish this season. Oh well, hope Alona Tal returns to my screen soon, in a role that lasts.
NOOOO, I really liked the show... Yesterday I said CW was great for giving Nikita a proper ending, I know Cult is a new show but it also deserves a proper ending.
It sucks because I heard about Cult way before I knew about the Following. I think if the Following hasn't aired before it, it might have had a chance.
yes, but 90210 was getting a 0.2-0.3 and they didn't pull it off the schedule, they decided it would be the last season and cancelled it, but will have a concluded, I think Cult fans deserve the same.
although not shocking, I was hoping to at least see the rest of this season as it was really getting fairly solid and interesting for me, and Jessica Lucas and Alona Tal are very easy on the eyes, but at least the cast will have a chance to get on other shows
Well I can not say it's a complete surprise. The ratings have been terrible. I am only surprised the cancellation did not happen sooner. I do think it's a shame though, because in spite of it's flaws I was quite enjoying it.
Are they seriously going to revive people who have been dead for some time now? I mean death meant nothing in that show already with every single character having ridiculous plot armor, but this? Well I guess TVD is falling into a new low now(and here I thought that was NOT possible).
Watch bonnie turn everyone in the world human just in time for miss cardboard's and steffie's sugary wedding, so Elena can tell everyone how much she cares and loves everyone(again.)
The only thing that surprises me about the news, is how long it took them to do this. Nothing against the show, but those ratings couldn't even be excused for the CW. Especially not during the same season as Arrow....
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I really hope, that we will see other episodes online... or on DVD
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!! Alaric Saltzman resurrection please :D
ReplyDeleteCan't be surprised when it once (after adjusting down) got a 0.1 in the demo!
ReplyDeleteIt was getting a 0.2 in the demo nearly all the time until it dropped to a 0.1 last week. Very bad even for the CW.
ReplyDeleteI loved Cult! This show was a bit slow at times, but it was just getting good. :(

ReplyDeletethat sucks, I knew the cancellation was coming but I at least wanted it to finish the 13 ep run...I was enjoying the story.
ReplyDeletePulling it from the schedule is surprising since Oh Sit! would be less likely to build an audience.
ReplyDeleteHopefully they will at least put the rest of the episodes online. Seems really unfair to those who did watch such a serialised show.
ReplyDelete*Shrug*
ReplyDeleteoh well, anyone did NOT expect it?
Considering all the controversy of racism surrounding Matt Davis as well as barely lukewarm critical reception of the show, its not surprising it failed.

ReplyDeleteYeah, but Oh Sit was doing better as a summer show.
ReplyDeleteNot surprised at all about this cancellation, but I don't see how some "oh sit" repeats could fix the ratings. So you're probably right, it's all about loosing money in producing the next episodes.
ReplyDeleteToo bad.
They filmed the whole season before it even started airing. So it's been all finished for awhile. It is possible they'll use the rest of the eps later on or release it online.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it had anything to do with Matt, most people just didn't seem interested.

I'm glad I gave up this show, it was good, but it was clearly not going to survive.
ReplyDeleteMaybe there is such a thing as being "too low" even for the CW.
ReplyDeleteNOOOO, I really liked the show... Yesterday I said CW was great for giving Nikita a proper ending, I know Cult is a new show but it also deserves a proper ending.
ReplyDeleteThey don't need a plot hole or a retcon. If Silas is successful a lot of supernatural dead people will be reappearing on TVD.

ReplyDeleteAm I the only one wondering what the hell is Oh, Sit? I have no idea what that is.
ReplyDeleteIt sucks because I heard about Cult way before I knew about the Following. I think if the Following hasn't aired before it, it might have had a chance.
ReplyDeleteThis is unfortunate. I hope they will air them somewhere sooner or later. On hulu/netflix or their own site.
ReplyDeletea "high-octane musical chairs competition"
ReplyDeleteyes, but 90210 was getting a 0.2-0.3 and they didn't pull it off the schedule, they decided it would be the last season and cancelled it, but will have a concluded, I think Cult fans deserve the same.

ReplyDeleteagreed, the pilot was a bit rough but it seemed to find a flow and I was liking it as well
ReplyDeleteWell I can not say it's a complete surprise. The ratings have been terrible. I am only surprised the cancellation did not happen sooner. I do think it's a shame though, because in spite of it's flaws I was quite enjoying it.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, that sounds lame.
ReplyDeleteAre they seriously going to revive people who have been dead for some time now? I mean death meant nothing in that show already with every single character having ridiculous plot armor, but this? Well I guess TVD is falling into a new low now(and here I thought that was NOT possible).

Thanks Laura, I didn't know they have filmed the whole season. Now I really hope they will release the next episodes online.
ReplyDelete90210 is a veteran series and is in it's last season. Cult is in it's first season.
ReplyDeleteI can't blame the CW on this one.
I think Deadline said they may put up the episodes online in the future. In Emily Owens case, I don't believe they ever got a 0.1 in the demo.
ReplyDeleteThey needed to stop the rot.
Yeah it sucks too bad the ratings were not better and Carrie Diaries? no thanks.
ReplyDeleteThe ratings were bad so,that is what happens with a new show.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing that surprises me about the news, is how long it took them to do this. Nothing against the show, but those ratings couldn't even be excused for the CW. Especially not during the same season as Arrow....
ReplyDelete"Oh, Sit"? Who the H E Double Hockey Sticks wants to watch some crap called "Oh, Sit"? I want the rest of Cult!
ReplyDeleteGood thing I didn't follow up on it otherwise I'd be pulling my hair off
ReplyDeleteI'm not surprised about "cancelled" part, more about pulling from schedule. The ratings must be worse than I thought.
ReplyDeleteWhat??? Its amazing show, it deserves at least all 13 episodes
