Let me start by saying that I LOVE THE OFFICE. I have been a dedicated fan since it premiered in March 2005 and have enjoyed all of it: from every cringe worthy Michael Scott moment to the amazing journey that Jim and Pam have taken together. Regardless of this I will not sign this petition. As much as I love the show I am a staunch opponent to direct audience participation/influence in story telling. Story tellers should tell their stories and the audience should accept it; length and all. When shows are over; they're over and fan's shouldn't try to resurrect them. Producers shouldn't lurk through web comment sections and Twitter to get the feel of how the audience likes something. They should tell their story and that should be that. They shouldn't change outcomes because there was outrage that ianto died on Torchwood. They shouldn't have tried to build a relationship between Silar and Elle on Heroes because fans liked that Zachary Quinto and Kristen Bell are real life friends and it was popular at the moment. The result is always a disservice to the story. There shouldn't be 1-800 numbers for viewers to call in and petitions designed to influence production decisions are wrong. Despite my rant; I'm certain the Office series finale will be great.

  3. I completely agree that the audience should not participate in storytelling, and that the writers/actors/producers should tell their stories unencumbered, but this petition is supporting exactly that. It's the showrunner that is asking the network for an extended slot, and the fans telling the network to do exactly what your very well-stated argument says they should: let Greg Daniels tell the story that closes The Office the way he wants. This isn't for fan interference, it's against network interference :)

  4. This petition isn't about the fans influencing story telling, it's more about asking NBC to allow them to show more of the story that they filmed and not cutting stuff out. The story is there, fans aren't trying to sway that.
