  1. Please don't tell me that HoD is going back to the "Zoe wants to leave Bluebell" story.

  3. It certainly isn't an ideal storyline to revisit, but I can see them going that route.
It will depend a lot on they develop the stories in the next few episodes of the season, and where they want to go in S3.

As I said I'm not loving the idea in theory, but execution will be key as to how I'll end up judging it in the long run.

  4. Well seeing as "Wade cheating" is what they chose to go with as an excuse to break Zoe and Wade up, redundant and cliche doesn't seem to be something the show aspires to shy away from. And revisiting the rehashed subject of Zoe wanting to leave falls right under that category.

  5. Cheating is so common that it can't be redundant or cliche. If anything, it's proportionally accurate. It's an unfortunate reality of modern day relationships. No matter how much it's done on TV, it's practically impossible to over-do it.

If they do go that route it had better be for a damn good reason and breaking up with Wade isn't it. Leaving a town (where you've worked so hard to have the residents accept you and where you've built a successful medical practice) because of a guy is a decision I would not respect.

  7. My general argument/complaint is that, despite how common it is in real live it's NOT the only reason people break up over. And on TV that's pretty much the case. It has began bothering me that no-one nearly never breaks up over other reasons. So for TV storytelling it IS redundant and IT IS cliche and writers ARE lazy for not bothering to come up with other more challenging reason to keep people apart.

Also there is the notion of oh... I don't know... people not breaking up.... novel idea, I'm aware.... cause you know there is that other thing where people actually do stay together.

If creating a more challenging reason means taking out-of-character actions then it's not worth it. Wade's actions were in line with the character Hart of Dixie created and being true to the character is more important to me than coming up with some brilliant break-up twist.

"cause you know there is that other thing where people actually do stay together."

That is more seldom all the time. Considering the very high divorce rate in this country and that the average length of a non-marriage relationship in the US is less than eight months, it's actually an unlikely outcome.

However, most aspects of this TV program are very idealized so it's probably unfair of me to apply real world facts to a rather fantastical show.

  11. I read that today as well. Thanks for the heads-up. :)
