AVOIDANCE THERAPY - When the town decides to put on a performance of Shakespeare's most iconic scenes, George (Scott Porter) and Zoe (Rachel Bilson) refuse to play Romeo and Juliet, but eventually agree just to prove to everyone that they are over each other. Lemon (Jaime King) and Wade (Wilson Bethel) are excited about taking over the reigns at the Rammer Jammer, but things come to a halt when they lose all the staff two days before opening. Meanwhile, Brick (Tim Matheson) decides to offer a week of free counseling to everyone in BlueBell and winds up helping the two most unlikely people, but in his effort to help others he learns a secret he has been keeping from himself. Cress Williams also stars. Bethany Rooney directed the episode written by Leila Gerstein (#219).

Ugh. The Zoe / George stuff seems to be slowly but steadily creeping back into the show.

ReplyDeleteI have some questions... wouldn't make more sense that Zoe would like to prove that she is over Wade since he was her real boyfriend? and didn't we saw an episode this season where G and Z were trying to prove the same thing? how many times are we going to watch that plot? I hope the writers are not trying to force the viewers to like that pairing since forced couples don't work. Hope to be wrong and that this press release is not what it seems.

ReplyDeleteI think they know that nobody wants them, but if Zoe and Wade stay together now, the show would have no point in continueing, because the main character would be happy. This is sadly how TV Shows work. Look at Gilmore Girls, everybody always wanted Lorelai and Luke together, but it kept me watching to wait for it and it's the same here.
ReplyDeleteI know that denying the audience what is wants is one of the most used tactics of TV shows, but I thought they would find a more viewer-appealing resolution than going back to the same old eyebrow-raise, heavy-sigh boring where-is-my-remote-I-need-to-switch-this-channel plot. This is the fastest way for the ratings to drop. Silly me, I thought Zoe would take her time to re-discover herself and not use it to launch into another dating/feelings drama.
ReplyDeleteI know it was probably in the writers's plans since the beggining of the show for Zoe and George to get together at some point, or to live always with this platonic thing, but blehh. It's so weird the way they try to do that, because it all seems extremely forced, and not just because Zoe/Wade it's so great (which it is), but because since the beginning there is absolutely no chemistry between Zoe and George to me. None at all, they just seem awkward and false, I can't even explain how blehhh it is.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with you if writers kept showing us signs of lingering love between Wade and Zoe, despite the separation. But it seems instead they keep reminding us of this big epic love between George and Zoe, which kinda cheapens Zoe/Wade relationship for me and just kills my excitement.
ReplyDeleteGeorge and Zoe love storyline is over since the first episode of Season 2 in my opinion. I'm tired of the writers trying to put them togheter. They just don't work they have no chemistry and the Wade and Zoe story is much more interesting than theirs

I knew this was coming but I'm still thoroughly annoyed. I am fine if the writers want to create conflict between Zoe and Wade but I worry that the writers might be thinking of things the other way around, where Wade was the distraction between the true lovebirds, Zoe and George. UGH. I hope the writers restore my faith in them by season's end!

I do not like George and Zoe together; however I do think it's realistic for them to try to be together because they've both always thought they would be perfect for each other and that's not something you forget that easily, I know that from personal experience. I think it would be unrealistic for them not to give it a chance, but my bet is that Zoe will realize that there won't be much passion in the relationship as there was with Wade or something of the sort. I think Zoe needs to have proof that it wouldn't work between her and George so she can finally get over it and move on. Meanwhile, Wade needs to work on bettering himself before they can get together again. So I think they will do their own thing for a while and get back together eventually.
