British tabloids typically have about a 50% accuracy rate with their 'scoops' on Doctor Who, the long-running British sci-fi series. Sometimes they're very right, and sometimes they're horribly wrong, but the fact that they might be right is enough to keep them going -- and enough to keep us listening.
Insider sources claim that star Matt Smith is slated to leave the series after this year's upcoming Christmas special. Smith, who has played the Doctor since 2010, has starred in three series of the show so far, and is contracted to appear at least through the show's Christmas special. Apparently, though, Smith wants to venture into Hollywood films -- he's already slated to star in Ryan Gosling's directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster, due out next year.

I submitted the same thing about 40 mins ago lol
ReplyDeleteI don;t know I feel like everytime a new series starts up The Sun claims the current Doctor will regenerate. It's like part of the endless media headlines we get. I would like him to stay a bit longer as I think Matt really does justice to the roll and I get fed up with people speculating on who will be the next Doctor for months on end!
ReplyDeleteapologies, I put the thanks in, but then must have pasted the code over it, sorry.
ReplyDeleteCan't work out where my comment has gone either, I made one as soon as I posted this...scatty sandi tbh
Would be such a shame, I really liked Matt Smith's doctor. :)
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I'm hearing from some inside sources that I trust a great deal that Smith will be regenerating at Xmas, so this rumour that started last week from the Jpnathan Ross show does seem to have merit :( #sadtimes
ReplyDeleteSame here, though 4 years in the role would be enough to test any ones staying power. It's a grueling enough schedule during filming, but the publicity side of the job would be enough for anyone after a while I think :(
ReplyDeleteRest easy guys. I learned last night that Matt himself has confirmed he's signed to stay on as the Doctor till 2015. So much for rumour.
ReplyDeleteAs long we both get the credit im good lol
ReplyDeletewhen exactly did you hear about this because i read it on btvguide around 3 something lol
I feel bad for the ninth doctor tho he only lasted one series lol as for others David was from series 2 to 5 and Matt is from 5 to 7 so technically David was more liked on the set lol
ReplyDeleteI read that as well but here we are with this story lol We can only wait and see what BBC has to say till then 2015 is the end year for Matt Smith.
ReplyDeleteI don't get what you mean about being more liked on set, can you explain that please? :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, I guess so, and I can appreciate all the hard work they've done and the wonderful moments in the series they have given us.
ReplyDeleteIt's just anticipating who is cast next as the Doctor that is always killing me. I, for one, really disliked David Tennant's doctor. :(
I love Christopher Eccleston, would love to have him back. Though that would seem unlikely.
ReplyDeleteI disliked some of the scripts he had, and found the emo or romance side of 10 rather annoying, but on the whole I liked Tennant's portrayal. I would like a slightly older Doctor next time round, though I also wouldn't complain at Alexander Vlahos (Mordred from BBC's Merlin) getting the part if they go younger again.
ReplyDeleteI saw your submission, so posted it :)
ReplyDeleteI was preparing myself for this news for a while now. Was thinking more like in the finale, but after last year I should know better, BBC just loves making my Christmas miserable.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like a right time though, this way Matt and David both got 3 seasons and few specials and I like that. But it will be incredibly hard to say goodbye to Smith. I'm still not over David leaving, so... this doesn't make things easier. Hopefully the next Doctor will be the great one, like all the previous ones (Chris, David and Matt).
That was a rumour made up on Tumblr I'm afraid, and then spread by Daphne Ashbrook. His contract runs out in November and there's no word on him having resigned as yet.
ReplyDeleteI trust Moffat to pick a goodun to be 12, but like you I will be very sad to see Matt go. If this rumour is true, I'm wondering if some of this stretching out of the seasons had something to do with it.
ReplyDeleteAn older doctor is preferable, they have gone younger these past two regenerations. Mordred would seem a good fit though.
ReplyDeleteI'm still secretly hoping for Eccleston to come back. Idle hope, I know. ;)
The press releases combined with the season six finale hinted at this.
ReplyDeleteHe regenerates when his name is spoken, and this is the year his name will be revealed.
My latest theory about his name is that it is the key that locked the time war. The daughter from Fires of Pompeii said his name was hidden deep inside the Medusa Cascade, and that is where the Time Lords and Daleks where sealed at the end of the war.
ReplyDeleteoh ok lol i wanted by name as an author lol seeing as i submitted first lol
ReplyDeleteI swear Daleks are bad asses lol they survive no matter how hard the doctor tries to kill them lo
ReplyDeleteHe can shave himself bold and grow a beard lol Take Walker Teaxs Ranger series there was one actor who appeared multi times as different characters
ReplyDeleteMeaning the producers seemed to like him more on the set seeing as he lasted From series 2-5 and Matt is from 5-7 three yrs for Matt and 4 yrs for David and Christoper only had one yr on the show and rose also was liked on the show seeing as her character was on till series 4
ReplyDeleteHow bad ass would it be if Jack Harper became the doctor lol
ReplyDeleteThat is the name of the SpoilerTV Staff who posted it.
ReplyDeleteOh please let it be true!
ReplyDeleteIf he does fingers crossed that the next one is ginger. If only Damien Lewis wasn't busy with Homeland.
ReplyDeleteI dread this every time it happens because the Doctors they cast are always so damn good. The bar is set pretty high and, being the pessimist that I am, I'm always expecting the next Doctor to be a flop. So far we've all been lucky in that regard.
ReplyDeleteHeh, anyone who is saying 50% to British Tabloids is woefully over-estimating.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I would be quite happy with a regeneration!
David was on series 2,3,4 and Matt was 5,6,7, so it's the same
ReplyDeleteI guess British is high on the three's lol
ReplyDeleteHow can i get my name up there lol
ReplyDeleteI hope this is false and that Matt sticks around one more season.
ReplyDeleteI don't like how the regeneration element allows for such an easy way out by the lead character in Doctor Who. Yes it's good that they have that because it makes it easier to keep the show going forever when they can switch every so often, but it's been done way too frequently since the series came back. From now on when they cast a new doctor they need to start contractually obligating them to at least 5 seasons right off the bat. That is absolutely not unreasonable either because most shows obligate the lead for longer than that. Again, it's good they can switch the doctor every so often, but the regenerations shouldn't just be used so that the current one can leave basically whenever the heck they feel like it.
ReplyDeleteI'm kind of sad, but what can you do, when it's not your decision. I only hope to see someone good be the next doctor.
ReplyDeleteYou can't Boris. You'd have to be a part of SpoilerTV Staff and be the one who actually posted the news. If you're not, you can always submit the scoop (like you did) and get a credit IN the article, usually the "thanks for the heads up". That's just how the things work on the site ;)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see Alan Tudyk in the role but a non-British Doctor would cause people to riot.
ReplyDeleteSo basically if i submit i partially get credit lol
ReplyDelete@google-fadc3aae24f904ceecebefc097a14fe6:disqus I don't understand your issue? When you submit something, it is sent to our team. One of the team will then post your submission onto the site. They add a "thanks to xxxx" to indicate who sent it in. What don't you understand?
ReplyDeleteYou have full credit for the submission, I just posted what you submitted rather than 'take credit' for it :)
ReplyDeleteMost Doctors have only stayed for 3 years, it's a pretty grueling schedule after all. I actually like it this way as it stops it getting stale, it's probably the main reason the show has survived for 50 years now, how many of the other show you are talking about can claim that ;)
ReplyDeleteAnd you wrote it so much better then me lol bc i think i wrote a bad one lol
ReplyDeleteI understand i was bit confused but then sorta out lol I'm curious if i didnt submit this article whats the odd someone would of posted on monday lol
ReplyDeleteThe BBC has already released a statement denying that MS has expressed any desire to leave.
ReplyDelete@Gary65:disqus Do you have a link you could share?
ReplyDeleteI don't have anything to the original statement but, according to these articles posted 2 days ago, the BBC has made a statement to The Sun(the orginators of the story) that the Xmas episode is still at the writing stage and they have no idea what's happening in it. While this is not an outright denial that Matt is leaving, I think they would know well in advance whether the main actor on one of their most profitable shows intends to quit. David Tennant publically announced his departure in Oct 2008(BBC presumably knew some time in advance of that), with his final episode airing in Jan 2010. Compared to how long we knew in advance with David, we would be on extremely short notice here if it were true.
