Between these it's easy for me, Game of Thrones definitely. However I also enjoy American Horror Story a lot, and Once Upon a Time is pretty good also. TVD and Supernatural definitely have their moments.
I think Charmed was the very first American series I watched (and visited boards fanatically for). I never watched the last seasons though.
Supernatural,The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are my Top 3 TV shows of all time,so it's pretty much impossible for me to choose. Once Upon a Time is also one of my favorites.Basically I'm sitting this one out!
Are you sure these are all fantasy shows? The X-Files, Smallville, American Horror Story and the Walking Dead are not fantasy, but sci-fi. You could replace them with "Legend of the Seeker", "Merlin", "Xena Warrior Princess", "Hercules The Legendary Journeys" - those are classic sword-and-sorcery fantasy shows. Anyway, my favourite fantasy show - I have to say "Legend of the Seeker", with "Once Upon A Time" a close second. :)
to be honest i haven't really been a fan of the fantasy genre that much. I've only seen one show on this list- Once Upon a Time, which is certainly one of my favourite all-time tv shows.
This was very difficult. I loved watching Charmed for many years. Once Upon a Time is my most current fav show. It has a great cast and wonderfull storylines. I missed Being Erica (time travel is fantasy right???) and Lost Girl. My vote was for Charmed, because the show got my in to the fantasy themed series.
yeah, being erica is a pretty great show, perhaps one of my favourite canadian shows ever (i think continuum is also a great sci-fi/fantasy show as well!)
Thank you for the link, but I am already aware of the distinction between the two genres. I'm quite sure that The X-Files is (mostly) sci-fi. I haven't seen the other 3 shows, but in imdb none of them are classified as "fantasy".
I did, but it doesn't change the fact that most user submitted polls here are rubbish. Btw, since when American Horror Story and The Walking Dead are fantasy shows? Does someone here at spoilertv checks the polls before publishing them?
If you do not like the user submitted polls, you most certainly do not have to open or participate in them. Better yet, create some polls yourself and submit them. Then you know you will be happy with them. Not all people watch the same shows so of course many polls will be missing the "obvious choice" to others. Besides it is just a fun way to get TV fans talking across shows.
I do not watch most of these shows so for me it comes down to Supernatural and Buffy. I also loved The X-Files but it is not fantasy to me. While Supernatural has slipped in quality this year, it has been the show I have been more hooked on for longer so it gets my vote. However, Buffy was one of my first TV addictions too.
I fell in love with TV series when I started watching Buffy in high school. But I voted Supernatural because of the impressive mythology they've developed and the writing is impeccable (most of the time :)
Surprised Once Upon a Time has so many votes... It's a good show but I wouldn't consider it in the Game of Thrones, Supernatural & The Vampire Diaries section of awesomeness...
For me, I have to say Merlin, it wasn't the best show in terms of writing, but I still love it. Legend of the seeker was a fun show as well, too bad it ended with only 2 seasons. Buffy is also one of my favourites. Supernatural was an obsession back in the day, now not so much, but I still enjoy it. Game of thrones is becoming an obsession now, I even started reading the books, and it's a lot better that way.
Buffy had my first vampire love...Spike. I have 2 complete sets of Buffy and Angel and usually one set was loaned out. ;) Started out watching Angel because I liked Bones, but fell in love with Spike so had to pick up Buffy season 4-7, but wanted to see how it started so ended up with all of it. Kind of hooked me. lol
Game of Thrones is the best fantasy show. It has it all, great story, awesome dialog, talented actors, politics, love, dragons and direwolfs! I also watch The Walking Dead and The Vampire Diaries. Great shows, but not nearly as clever as GoT.
Shame indeed. :( It's been 3 years and I still can't get over it, and reading the SoT books helps only a little. I miss the show and the cast too much. :(
Many of these shows are worthy of my vote and are quite tempting. Supernatural, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, X-Files, Once Upon A Time and The Vampire Diaries are all great shows but my vote goes to Buffy. I started watching fantasy/sci-fi shows because of Buffy. It had an exceptional cast and great storylines. Infact, sometimes when I'm watching a particular scene from a present tv series, I get a sense of deja vu and say to myself, "Wait, I saw this ages ago in Buffy". Very few shows fall into that category. Am I making any sense? :D
Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead are by far the best "fantasy" type shows on this list and they're just by far better shows than a lot of other shows out there. Now arguably I have not seen Buffy so I cannot say whether that is good or bad, but I do know its fans are passionate for it so I give it the benefit of the doubt for being a contender. And OUAT, I watch, but its just nowhere near the caliber of Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead.
I love most of these shows, but I had to go with Buffy. Drama, intrigue, comedy, weird romance--what's not to love? Next for me is X-Files, then OUaT, then TWD, then AHS.
Loaded question.... some of my faves aren't even listed *cough*Angel*cough*
From those options, I voted for SPN. GoT and Buffy are close seconds. Once ranks a more distant third. (and I know if I ever get around to watching TXF it will weasel itself in there)
No we don't check them. What don't you understand about USER SUBMITTED.
These are not USER SUBMITTE BUT CHECKED BY SPOILERTV FIRST POLLS.
It's very simple mate.
If you don't like them, don't click on them.
Why not try to CONTRIBUTE rather than moaning. How about submit some of your own polls. Trying contributing to this site rather than posting no helpful comments.
Easily LOST, unless the pseudoscience marks it as sci-fi instead of fantasy, in which case my choice would be Pushing Daisies. Either way, it's an "Other" option.
How are they not fantasy? Horros or a subset of Fantasy. Some would even argue that SF is a subset of Fantasy. As for Walking Dead being SF rather than Fantasy/Horror, so far we don't have a rational/science-fictional explanation for what's happened, though you could say it's been implied that there is one. Certainly, it does not foreground the SF elements (yes, it's a post-disaster story, so set in the "future," but such stories are not of necessity SF stories) but rather the Horror ones.
Lost flirted with being SF but ended up, really, being Fantasy. (It ends in "heaven" for Pete's sake!) You could make a case for Science Fantasy, I suppose, as it does include elenets of SF and Fantasy.
Horror is a subcategory of Fntasy, so that gets AHS and arguably WD in. Smallville might qualify as Science Fantasy, but the level of science in almost any comic-book-based story is so minimal and so implausible that to treat it rigidly as SF is too restrictive. As for X-Files, yes, it's Sf (most of the time), but it played up mystery/horror, not the truth that was out there, so it largely lacked the real plausibility/scientific rationale you'd (well, I'd) expect in SF. Besides, a real case can be made that SF is a subcategory of Fantasy, or literatur eof the fantastic, comprising all genres that present counter-factual worlds.
The show didn't end in heaven. The show ended on the island. Yes, it featured flash-forwards to another place, but even that wasn't heaven. It was a place that existed within the consciousnesses of every person that they would experience whenever they were in the process of dying (which was established back in Season 2). The way it was presented allows for the argument to be made that it was a literal, spiritual afterlife, or that it was just a product of shared consciousness (which falls more in the realm of pseudoscience than straight fantasy; even DHARMA experimented with psychic phenomena such as that).
But, yeah, "science fantasy" is probably a decent way to classify it.
Hot damn, that makes two of us. I can't get over it either. I only got hooked on the show just after it was announced to be scrapped, I'm still not over it.
Continuum is a great show. Seeing Victor Webber reminds me a bit of Charmed, but the mysteries involving Alec got me into the show. I miss Being Erica a lot. There were talks about a UK remake. I hope it still gets picked up with maybe some of the fantastic cast recast. The showformat is quite unique and fresh.
This one's a no-brainer for me, Supernatural is one of my favorite shows ever. But I also really enjoy 'Haven' and was sorry not to see it on the list.
I can't decide between Buffy and Charmed. Really can't. TVD is only in 4th season, and AHS and OUAT only in 2nd so I'm not consider them :-) Well, I hated Spike, and the Angel's depart... In Charmed Shannon was unreliable and "died" that sucks too... But I just love SMG, and then the Angel's spin off was awesome... It's really close but I'd go with Buffy :-)
I saw the pilot on TV back in 2009 and a few days later I had watched the entire s1. :D When s2 started I stayed up every Saturday until 4-5 am to watch the latest episode (damn time difference!) I could hardly believe it was not renewed - everyone I've recommended it to loved it. I guess the bad time slot and lack of promotion didn't give it a fair chance. :( I know there's little hope for it being renewed, but maybe with all the fan effort, Netflix or a network could decide to pick it up. One can dream. :)
Between Game of Thrones and The Walking Dead. TWD for the exceptional writing, flawless cast and complexity, which is award winning. Game of Thrones for the breath taking sets and amazing cast.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
i'm not really into fantasy shows but i like the walking dead a lot
ReplyDeleteBuffy!!
ReplyDeletePicked OUAT because X-Files is not fantasy and GoT & TWD will probly be Top 2.
ReplyDeleteI choose other because I would pick Haven
ReplyDeleteBetween these it's easy for me, Game of Thrones definitely. However I also enjoy American Horror Story a lot, and Once Upon a Time is pretty good also. TVD and Supernatural definitely have their moments.
ReplyDeleteI think Charmed was the very first American series I watched (and visited boards fanatically for). I never watched the last seasons though.
Buffy was the original! The rest are pale imitations of the Scooby gang!
ReplyDeleteGame of thrones.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural,The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones are my Top 3 TV shows of all time,so it's pretty much impossible for me to choose.
ReplyDeleteOnce Upon a Time is also one of my favorites.Basically I'm sitting this one out!

All time fav is Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteSilver would've gone to Walking Of The Dead.

What a dumb fuck. Buffy was a show for fags and fat chicks.
ReplyDeleteyeah, being erica is a pretty great show, perhaps one of my favourite canadian shows ever (i think continuum is also a great sci-fi/fantasy show as well!)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't call most of these fantasy shows. Scifi shows would be more appropriate. Voted for the walking dead.
ReplyDeleteFor the most part, except for their little alien experiment this season, american horror story is not even sci-fi to be accurate! But I agree with you
ReplyDeleteThank you for the link, but I am already aware of the distinction between the two genres.
ReplyDeleteI'm quite sure that The X-Files is (mostly) sci-fi. I haven't seen the other 3 shows, but in imdb none of them are classified as "fantasy".
Supernatural: eight years hunting monsters and saving people the family business and we are going for the ninth year
ReplyDeleteWhere the hell are Lost Girl and Xena?
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen it, tbh. The description on imdb said it was " Drama |
ReplyDeleteHorror |
Mystery |
Sci-Fi |
Thriller".
Back in the day I would have killed people to make sure I got to watch Charmed and Stargate.
ReplyDeleteIt's a USER SUBMITTED POLL.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they don't watch those shows?
Fringe!!!!!!!!!!!! Along with The X=Files, Game Of Thrones and OUaT
ReplyDeleteYep,its a combo of both but more scifi!
ReplyDeleteseeing as how most are not fantasy, none.
ReplyDeleteYes,your right,the X-Files is definitely scifi.
ReplyDelete@redemptor:disqus Did you not see "Other - Leave Comment"
ReplyDeleteEasy, Supernatural for the last 8 years.
ReplyDeleteI did, but it doesn't change the fact that most user submitted polls here are rubbish. Btw, since when American Horror Story and The Walking Dead are fantasy shows? Does someone here at spoilertv checks the polls before publishing them?

ReplyDeleteFor me it's Buffy... for the last 16 years.
ReplyDeleteLegend of the Seeker is my fav too. shme its lasted only for two season :(
ReplyDeleteHands down. definately Legend of the Seeker
ReplyDeleteBuffy, hands down. none of those shows EVEN compare to it
ReplyDeleteSurprised Once Upon a Time has so many votes... It's a good show but I wouldn't consider it in the Game of Thrones, Supernatural & The Vampire Diaries section of awesomeness...
ReplyDelete1. X-Files
ReplyDelete2. Once Upon A Time
3. Charmed

ReplyDeletebecame fantasy?
Can't decide, love Charmed,VD and Once
ReplyDeletehad to go with GoT though i also like Buffy, and Once. TVD I used to like before JP ruined it with her Klaus obsession. Good riddance.
ReplyDeleteAll time then Buffy, currently GOT
ReplyDeleteMerlin. :)

ReplyDeleteBuffy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteA year ago i would've said "FOREVER BUFFY" but I'm so obsessed with Once now that I don't know what to choose...
ReplyDeleteOnce Upon a Time, Xena, Buffy, and Charmed.
ReplyDeletenow I LOVE TVD (voted) .. but I like OUaT too .. this is actually hard, I wish there more than 1 choice ;)

HELLO! Where is Lost Girl!?!?! Thats Buffy with tiny little touch of True Blood (I used to be hardcore supernatural) but LG topped it for me.
ReplyDeleteOof this poll pulls at my heart
ReplyDeleteCurrrent; Once
Before; Buffy
Most noticeably missing from the poll; Lost Girl
Hot damn, that makes two of us. I can't get over it either. I only got hooked on the show just after it was announced to be scrapped, I'm still not over it.

ReplyDeleteSupernatural pretty much started it all and is still the best.
ReplyDeleteFantasy / SciFi / Horror are all lumped into the fantasy genre.
ReplyDeleteSupernatural is one of my most favorite shows but as far as fantasy goes I had to go with Game of Thrones.
ReplyDeletelost girl
ReplyDeleteTouch choice... X-Files (excluding the last few seasons), Game of Thrones, SPN or AHS. Really can not decide.
ReplyDeleteIsn't lost girl syfy fantasy :)
ReplyDeleteCharmed and Buffy
