    hmmm... this is a very tough one. monk will always be my favourite show because it was the first show i was introduced to before i because a tv show watcher. but the most addictive show will probably have to be between One Tree Hill and Psych- i saw OTH seasons 1-9 within a month and caught up with Psych season 1-5 also with a month or two (before season 6). everyone keeps on saying how good 24 or Lost are so maybe that's next on the list for me to watch (after Friday Night Lights, Bones and Burn Notice that I have on DVD).

    One Tree Hill hands down (I watched the whole 9 seasons in 30 days or so). After that it's Psych and Monk as a tie. Am currently in the middle of watching Bones, and Burn Notice, and after that I'll probably give The West Wing a go...

    I agree. possibly one of the best teen/young adult dramas ever made. also great with life messages too (especially the quotes by Lucas Scott at the end of most episodes from seasons 1-6).

    Uhhh... none of those... Doctor Who, for example. Better than all of those combined. Buffy - 7 seasons(+2 more comic seasons) - better than all of those up there and DW, combined. And I think Fringe should count too...

    One Tree Hill, definitely. I don't really care for ''teen'' shows, but I watched those nine seasons of OTH in less than two weeks. Usually when I try to do a marathon like that I eventually get bored and give up, but not with OTH.

    really? 187 episodes in 14 days? That's crazy!! I watched the show in 25 or so days... May I ask how you accomplished this feat? I think I watched Season 4 in a day, and most of Season 5 in a day as well!

    Out of these, in order: Lost, Smallville and Supernatural. (Maybe Supernatural a bit more addictive than Smallville since it hooks us in with one episode, but it's sort of a rollercoaster. SV kept me coming back even when I was in hate with the show).

    However. I voted other, because, really IMO Doctor Who is the really most addictive show on television. It has 50 years and some people have watched it for that long. When I first started watching I didn't know what it was. it aired in weird times in a weird channel (at a Brazilian cable) and I had no clue what was happening. I didn´t know when it was coming back, but I HAD to watch more. It is that addictive. (Of course I actually only started watching for real it when I could find more information on it, about 5 years later. So it took me 5 years to understand "Are you my mommy?")

    Tough choice between Lost and 24. I voted for the latter. It was extremely addictive, and other than the fast paced, gripping, high stake stories, it's because they've mastered the art of the cliffhanger : even though you know the final scene of the hour is coming (in 90% of the episodes, there's a final split screen showing 3-4 different characters/group of characters before the screen goes wide again and we focus on the one ending the episode), but most of the time it kept me wanting for more right away, whether it was a double agent revealed, a plane being taken down, a nuclear bomb exploding, a virus being released, betrayals/huge reveals, characters in jeopardy, supporting characters dying, etc. I love it, even though in the last seasons sometimes they've pushed things a little too far for shock value.

    Other pretty addictive shows with 5 seasons or more : Lost, The Shield, Breaking Bad, True Blood, Sons of Anarchy, Chuck, Dexter, Alias, Damages. For all of them I have watched at least a full season within a few days. All good dramas are addictive, really, but the ones with a heavily serialized story, lots of twists, life/death situations and high stakes always have the top spots.

    Guys, Breaking Bad is against the rules. ;) It's not greater than 5 seasons. It's an amazing show, but there's only been 53 episodes so far.

    For me, it's LOST. I pretty much grew up with that show, and over two years after its ending I'm still addicted to it. Making fan videos, writing weekly articles about the episodes... It's not perfect, but there's no way that it could have been. I've never seen a show that was more exciting.

    But why more than 5 years?Your penalizing Fringe by doing that.Did the cast want more than 5 seasons?you bet your booting they did.Did the fans want more than 5 seasons? You would get a resounding YES we did! So it was Fringe,will probably be Fringe for a very long time. ;)

    So okay, back to the poll,plain and simple, Lost,what a great show and if i haven't rewatched it at least 3 times,i have watched the pilot and first season at least 15 or 20 times,and i'm getting the itch again! After that it would have to be 24,another great show,i started another rewatch except i stopped,that damn tick tocking of the clock drove me nuts!Then for me comes Bones,House then Burn Notice.

    As good as Fringe is, I don't think it's at the top of the list for "addictiveness" like others on the list. Fringe was more about stand alone episodes. The thing most of the shows on the list have in common is weekly cliff-hangers that make you scream for the next episode. :)

    If this list is about weekly cliff hangers than why is Bones up their,for that matter even Burn Notice,or Pysch they didn't have weekly cliff hangers.

    How is Supernatural winning this poll by more then double then what 2nd place has? Supernatural has sucked the past 3 seasons compared to the first 5. Now don't get me wrong I've been watching the show since the first episode on the WB I just don't think it's as good add it once was. Supernatural fans are just voting for it cause it's in the poll. The fact that Lost isn't winning this poll is a travesty.

    Fringe, Breaking Bad, but since I can't vote for them, I guess it would be The X-Files or Lost - I have yet to watch all episodes from both shows, but what I've seen so far is amazing.

    What are you talking about there were a lot of arcs in Fringe and they tended to bleed into one another. Even several of the stand alone episodes were worked into a major arc or part of the overall mythology of the show.


    As for weekly cliffhangers, on the list above I've seen 7 of them. Monk and Pysch were pretty much only stand alone episodes. House and Bones have plenty of arcs but very rarely do episodes have a cliffhanger. As for the others pretty much only Lost had that single continuous feel to it.

    Hard to pick between lost and supernatural but had to choose lost. Without fail every single episode made me dying to watch the next one. I don't think I have ever been as addicted to a tv show as I was to lost. I just constantly needed more

    Hehe, thanks. ;) It's true... The show was very random at times and I'm sure the writers were just throwing around ideas during the writing of it, but that resulted in a very unpredictable ride that had so many layers to it. There was something for everyone. Action, adventure, drama, romance, humor...
    Besides that, everything was connected somehow - really, like no other show, LOST could tie events to episodes from a long time before. EVERY episode has connections/references to at least five others in some way*. So much of it was so well-connected that in the end, people (understandably) expected something that would tie up all the loose ends in a neat little bow. So like I said... It never could have been perfect, but it was so close. The fact that the last episode decided for so many people whether they liked the show or not proved that.

    Hah, yes, it was quite crazy. But it was during my Christmas vacation, and I had a terrible cold and fever, so I had to stay in my bed for a week or so. Watched a lot of TV shows during that time!

    I couldn't stop watching Lost. After watching off and on during its run I had to buy the dvd's and watch from beginning to end. I wanted to know what happened to the characters. I will be watching again to pick up the clues i missed last time regarding what is happening. By the way thank you Chronologically Lost!

    Wow, nothing like calling a fandom sheep for liking their show. This isn't a poll on the most consistent show, but the most addicting. That's not even close to the same thing and of course quality is always in the eye of the beholder. I voted for Supernatural because for me it has been the most addictive while I dropped LOST after season 2 and have never regretted it. Supernatural is by far the most addictive to me with Buffy and the X-Files coming in a distant second and third. That doesn't change even if I currently can't stand season 8. For me addictive means how much time I am willing to devote to a show, how much I am willing to do for it, and how many times I will rewatch an episode. In this SPN wins hands down. In fact I have spent so much time on this show that even if I drop it in season 9 it will still have been the most addictive by a long shot. There is no other show where I have watched episodes more than 100 times and still want to watch again afterwards. There is no other show were I have connected to the characters so deeply. So even if some seasons of Supernatural are better than others (for me seasons 4, 5, and 8 are the worst), it remains the show that addicted me from episode 3 and has its tenterhooks in me still. Of all the TV shows I have watched, Supernatural has changed me more than all other shows combined. So no, I didn't just vote blindly for SPN because it is in the poll. I voted for it because it earned it.

    This might just be me and my mom, but the NCIS and Law & Order: SVU marathons on USA are very easy to get sucked into. My mom very often sits down to do something with one of those in the background but ends up just sitting and watching. Or she wants to leave to run errands but instead she gets sucked into the cases. NCIS on its own is very addictive.

    Well,all these people(including myself) obviously disagree with you.It's not a travesty that Lost isn't winning,it's just difference in opinions.
    Personally,I watched 2 seasons of Lost before I grew tired of it.On the other hand,8 years in,I still don't miss a second of Supernatural.Not everyone have the same taste when it comes to shows,that's all.

    I have watched Lost to the very last episode and I have to be honest and say I enjoyed it greatly but I don't have any desire to go back and watch the episodes again.

    Since then I have discovered Supernatural and there is no current show that has sucked me in from the very first episode nor made me want to comment on it, nor watch episodes over and over.

    Even although I think that this eighth seaon mainly sucks, I am still interested and eager to see what is going to happen, hoping that things will improve to my satisfaction.

    If not I still have seven seasons of episodes to watch and re-watch.:)

    This to me is why TV is superior to movies. Because you get to spend so much more time with characters they become a part of your life. Not in a psychotic, creepy, delusional way but in a way that you watch them grow and change and they move you with how they meet each new challenge. I think it matters less which show you connect to in a deep manner and more that you get the joy of connecting to a show at all.

    I never thought I would get majorly involved in a TV show but then The X-Files came along and I was sucked right in. It disappointed me greatly by the end but the joy of interacting in a deeper manner with a creative piece far overshadowed the bitterness of realizing that Chris Carter had no idea what the truth was much less where it was. By the time I got to that point with X-Files, I had moved on to Buffy as my TV obsession. When Buffy introduced Dawn and the whole show tilted off the rails, Roswell was reaching its creative peak and then came Everwood - two very short lived TV crushes. Still nothing packed such a wallop so quickly for me as Supernatural and no TV obsession has lasted so long.


    In fact I am starting to get a little worried because it's been a long time since I've had a new TV addiction, a show where I want to watch episodes over and over again. I have Burn Notice and White Collar. More recently I've added Person of Interest, Grimm, and Teen Wolf, but none of these inspire my interest as much as Supernatural has. I desperately need a new TV show to grasp my interest and not let go. It's been a long time since I've NOT obsessed over any TV and I'm not sure how I'm going to handle the withdrawal.

    Since a bad episode of Supernatural is still better than most TV for me, I also don't miss a second of it. I've watch every season 8 episode at least 4 times, even Bitten. It may be struggling in season 8 to me, but it is still appointment TV.

    Agreed. I've rewatched Supernatural so many times it's actually kind of embarrassing when I talk to non-SPN fans about it. They just don't get it. I don't think there will ever be another show like Supernatural that hooks me in so deeply and makes me want to try new things just to share with other fans. SPN got me back into writing, a hobby I had dropped for years, and I haven't written so much since I was planning to be a journalist in college. It inspired many firsts in my life. It was the reason why I got a blog, became a writer here, joined Twitter, learned to use social media to meet goals, helped create a website with friends, learned how to screencap and what screencaps were, joined forums, learned PollDaddy, got immersed in fanvids and fanart, joined a podcast, and made friendships via the internet. All of these firsts for me. While the X-Files was the first fandom I joined and my first taste of fan fiction, Supernatural was the catalyst for almost all fandom firsts for me. There has been no experience like it. No matter where the show goes and whether or not I go on with it, it has profoundly affected my life and I will always be grateful to the cast and crew of Supernatural for enriching my life for as long as it has.

    Those USA marathons are nuclear bombs to my to-do lists. Sometimes I look up and can't understand how so much time has gone by. It's these marathons that got me into NCIS to begin with, especially the Abby marathons.

    Dahne,i felt the same way about the X-Files,that was the first tv show that grabbed me and wouldn't let go,and yes your right, the last few years was a mere shadow of itself.I guess Chris Carter wanted us to figure out what the truth was,but oh yes it was devastating to realize he hadn't a clue!


    I think we are the lucky ones,the fortunate ones to find a show we love that much! No certainly not in that creepy,delusional way. I'll tell ya when Fringe ended it took me a week to get over being depressed,not just sad.I couldn't talk about it or comment on it.It hit me so strongly that it surprised even me..Just knowing i will never see Walter again makes me cry...


    I have a few shows that i watch but none that have me that involved,or care that much for,i don't blame you for being a little worried.I wonder when that next show will come along...if ever?

    There is a reason behind the fact SPN
    wins every poll online – it is a very addictive show with very passionate
    fandom. Yes, it’s not for everyone, but once you’ve been sucked in – there is
    no way out. I watch a lot of TV, I love Lost and Fringe and X-files and Buffy,
    but, o boy, never in my 40+ years I was addicted to TV show so much as I am
    addicted to SPN. In fact, it is the only TV
    show I watch live these days. Fans complaining, and squealing, and cursing writers,
    but every time coming back and continue watching. Show has to have a muscle to
    create such a beast as SPN fandom,

    I discovered Supernatural for the first time when it was in the middle of its sixth season, and starting at the beginning, I was absolutely hooked from the start. It certainly didn't take me very long to catch up in time for the season 7 premiere. Arguably, the show has suffered in recent years, especially since Kripke left the helm, but I'm still as in love with the show as I was when I discovered it. I do love those boys, and I will until the bitter end.

    I've been recently going through the comments, and finding some that basically argue that a show that I didn't put in the poll is better than all other shows, and other comments that are a bit derogatory... Other comments just basically ask (why is ___ not in this poll?)

    So, I've decided to clarify a few things. Some of you have said 'Why greater than 5 seasons, and why not 5?' For me, greater than 5 was just an arbitrary number, something that came into my head during the time I wrote the post. It's not like I don't like 5 season shows (Chuck, Eureka, Castle), however there are only 10 spots, and I had to make a few tough choices... I guess that's why 'Other' is there for.



    How did I decide the make up of this poll? Besides the 'Other' part (which is a given), I decided to put in shows that were addictive for me (One Tree Hill, Monk, Psych), shows that probably will be addictive for me if I were to give them more time (Burn Notice, Bones), and the others were a snapshot of what I thought everyone else would respond to (24, Lost, Supernatural, Smallville, House). I mean, I don't claim to get the mix of shows in this poll 100% spot on, but, hey, at least i gave it a shot!


    Now, let's all comment civilly, and remember, this poll is 'the most addictive show', not 'this show is better than every other show'... What I like to think of when I answer this poll is the frequency of watching episodes (how long does it take for you to churn through X amounts of seasons of a particular show?) that will truly test if you're a fan or not...

    Supernatural. Hands down. It may not always be consistent, but like someone else here said, even a bad episode of SPN is a lot better than most other TV shows. I put the majority of the reason for that at the feet of Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. Those guys are the best actors I've watched in years. The last time I was as obsessed with a show as I am this one was back when Highlander was on the air.

    You could go back through all the past polls and find the same problem,people who argue the show they watch is the best and better than any other show you happen to watch.Its like its the nature of the beast.You asked,they answered no matter if its for 'The most addictive' and not 'This show is better than every other show.' It always wounds up the same way...

    On this list...only two shows were dash home and watch live (or stay up way too late to watch the recording) Lost and Supernatural. I picked Lost. Cause in addition to always watching the show I was online downloading mysterious clips, playing the ABC games. So...Lost

    I watched Lost for a few episodes but I got lost with it, no pun intended. I couldn't get into it. Supernatural hooked me and I've been watching since Season 2. Sometimes I get frustrated with the show, especially in recent seasons, but it still keeps me coming back.

    Fringe is currently my second addictive show. I've only watched for a few months, still have not seen most of Season 3 and 4, but I am very invested in it. Especially with the amazing bittersweet ending (that I at first didn't think I'd like when some of the fans thought it was going to turn out this way but it touched my heart and I realized it was a good ending- despite the losses).

    I don't cry in TV shows much at all but even I got misty eyed when Peter was watching that video with Walter sitting there. Every Walter and Peter scene was so emotionally charged in those two episodes, and since I watched Fringe for their relationship pretty much, it was gut wrenching for me too. It's a relief to find a show that demands your full attention. So many times I'm watching TV while doing something else but shows like Supernatural for me and Fringe for you demand your attention in rewatch after rewatch and they are always more rewarding because of that. Here's hoping we both find that next all-consuming show that can take us for another amazing ride.

    Movies simply do not give you enough time with the characters. That's why I always cringe when I hear a favorite book is being turned into a movie. TV is by far my favorite entertainment because when it's done right, it's magical for more than just 2 hours.

    I definitely don't agree with this season's choices but nothing changes how important Supernatural has been in my life and nothing will keep me from hoping the season turns around. I've watched this show since September 13, 2005. I have never missed watching a new episode on the day it aired except Death's Door and I watched it as soon as possible. It's hard to imagine a time when I won't have SPN in my life. I just hope that when the end comes, I still look back on it with as much fondness as I did in the early seasons.

    It's definitely the only addiction I don't want a cure for and the one I feel most pressed to share. Supernatural has brought so many people together and helped so many find talents they never knew they had. It's been an amazing 7.5 years.

    I was severely addicted to Lost while it was on, but after the dreaded season 6 it just killed it for me. In just the last year I discovered Supernatural and I've already watched the full series about 3 times over and just can't get enough of it or the cast. (Love watching convention videos of them, etc...) So I voted Supernatural, but Lost is/was a close second.

    I agree one hundred percent with this. I have always loved tv shows over films.

    When you become attached to a character or to the premise of a show, you want to know more and more about that fictional world and its evolution, eventually ending up bonding with the characters and laughing and crying along with them as they navigate it.
    With films you can't get that level of involvement; at most you get a couple of sequels which leave you high and dry just the same.

    That's my choice in books too.There is nothing better than discovering a new author whose book you have enjoyed and then finding out that he has written a whole series of them.:)

    As for SPN, I have two sons who are not tv addicts in the slightest,

    They're more soccer, motor racing types but I convinced them to give Supernatural a try and much to my surprise they became as hooked as I am.

    So if Supernatural could make them sit through the dvd's of the seven seasons in record time,I can assure you it is really addictive! :)

    For me, movies are usually enough to tell the stories they portray, but there are some movies I wish were shows- especially ones with sequels.



    TV is my favorite form of entertainment, though, as I said.

    Besides the main characters, I always seem to have one or two re-occuring characters I really get attached to on a show, and on Fringe it was September. (On Supernatural it is/was Castiel and Bobby.)

    SN for me all the way. I have loved every season and most episodes. There have been other shows that I adore throughout my life, but none of them have grabbed like SN. Although NCIS, NCIS:LA and H50 are very close in 2nd, 3rd and 4th as far as addiction goes and not wanting to miss them. I know the latter two haven't been around for more then 5 seasons.
    I have been lucky to go to a couple of cons for SN and that is something I would never do for any other show. On the list above I also enjoy Bones and some seasons of 24. I dropped Lost after the first episode and I never got into any of the other shows.

    I couldn't agree more with this assessment. I too am addicted like never before in my TV viewing experience. The vision of Kripke, the creative writing and the brilliant depiction of the main characters by Jensen and Jared have kept me spellbound.

    Yep. Their acting along with just their characters alone, are the reason I got so into Fringe. I like science fiction stuff, but its the characters of TV shows and good acting that are the major factors in whether I watch a show or not.

    I'm with you. I discovered it the summer before Season 4. Watched the first disc of season one on Netflix and went to Amazon. Bought the seasons 1, 2 and 3 and caught up. Own every season on DVD and can't wait to buy more seasons in the future.

    I'm kinda agree and disagree. Yes, the first 5 season were absolutely amazing. I really loved it. It piled a huge fan base and it deserved it... B-U-T, the last 3 seasons are just exhausting! I really don't like them and the only reason I'm still watching is that I still believe in the writers because it doesn't make sense to me they made 5 amazing seasons and then so bad 3 seasons! I'm a fan of the show like everyone else, but it seems that I'm the only one who's brave enough to admit that the show's last years are embarrassing.

    I discovered it in season 3 and bought the first three seasons and I was ready for season 4. I was disappointed in Sera Gamble's time at helm. I figured she'd been with the show from day one, but she sure messed it up. I love Carver's helm so far. He took us through Hell with the boys but they had to go through it to realize what they really wanted. I love where it's headed so far.
