Scrubs. The medical show medical professionals always say is the most accurate representation of hospital life (with regards to cases/relationships etc).
i actually don't watch any medical dramas except for royal pains. i started watching body of proof but then i stopped mid-second season. royal pains is a pretty good show but nowadays the plots are more about family and relationships and the medical stuff is filler. possibly thinking of watching house later on in the future...
Hands down its ER! Then comes House and Grey's. Mash was in a class unto itself,it had a lot of comedy in it,so since your asking for drama i cannot consider it. In its day St. Elsewhere was a great medical drama,or was it just the guys it in that made it easy to watch?
E.R. That was appointment TV for me. The personal dramas of the characters and the medical dramas were equally compelling. There were scenes I'll never forget, such as the young mother dying giving birth, and Dr. Greene's death.
Only scripted Medical Drama I've ever watched willingly is Saving Hope (I've seen General Hospital too because I once was a teen and lived with my mother :P ). I have seen a few clips of Grey's Anatomy but I did not like it.
I do like Untold Stories Of The ER if that counts.
I've only ever watched ER and even then, it was an episode here and there. Still, it was a wonderful show and I started sobbing at one point during the series finale and didn't stop until after it was over. I do wish TNT would start the reruns again.
I think that M*A*S*H was actually considered a sitcom, but it's always going to get my vote, even if I wasn't born when it aired. It had compelling characters that you always rooted for, even when they were supposed to be ridiculous, and the humor was some of the best written I've seen. And it wasn't bogged down by relationship drama. It was real, it was creative, and it's one of my favorite shows of all time.
Easily House. Then Scrubs. Then probably M*A*S*H. And Nip/Tuck would come up next only if we were counting the first 3 seasons. After that, no one comes close.
I was between E.R. and Grey's, but I had to favor the later because apart of being "a medical drama", Grey's had a fresh perspective on the whole "drama" approach overall, a certain quirkyness on the way of telling the story, and of course the characters.
Scrubs for all it's accuracy on the technical aspects, really dropped on quiality plot wise in the later seasons to the point is was not better than other sitcoms of the time. I mean, I love the show, but it lost its charm and honesty in the midst of sitcom slapstick.
ER definitly, it prepared the way for so many other medical dramas! Plus, my sister is a doctor and she says that ER is more realistic than... lets say Grey's.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
M*A*S*H was the only one on the lsit I watched. Not a fan of medical shows at all.
ReplyDeleteHouse. Always and forever House
ReplyDeleteScrubs. The medical show medical professionals always say is the most accurate representation of hospital life (with regards to cases/relationships etc).
ReplyDeleteE.R, by a country mile!
ReplyDeleteChicago Hope. Not too much soapy, and a great bunch of actors from Peter Berg and Mandy Patikin to Adam Arkin.
ReplyDeleteScrubs! Funny, correct information (for the most part, it was voted the most medically correct medical drama a few years ago)

ReplyDeleteI thought the same thing about MASH - I think they actually classified it a sitcom.
ReplyDeleteEasily House. Then Scrubs. Then probably M*A*S*H. And Nip/Tuck would come up next only if we were counting the first 3 seasons. After that, no one comes close.
