The CW's pilot The Tomorrow People is basically X-Men set in high school where mankind has begun mutation into two different types of people 'The Tomorrow People' who basically all have the same powers; Telekinesis, Telepathy and Teleportation but have different specializations, and another mysterious race that predates the tomorrow people.
The series is lighter in tone than CW shows like "The Vampire Diaries' filled with CW high school drama and love triangles. It explores the mutants' struggle with their powers, the conflict between the two factions and the government's dealing with their existence.
There isn't really much original about this script, the CW basically asked for 'X-Men' in high school, word is the CW is eyeing this as a possible companion for 'Arrow' next season.

Wait! Where does that leave SPN?!! O.O
ReplyDeleteAs it's their 3rd biggest show, they probably want to see if they can use it to fix another night.
ReplyDeletemost likely on Monday or Tuesday paired with another new show
ReplyDeleteLooking forward for this show
ReplyDeleteThere was a time in which I thought Arrow and Supernatural breaking would be a good idea, but honestly, they help out each other, so I say just leave them and go all in on a new night. If both shows are good (a la Arrow this year), it will do fine. I would go with:
ReplyDeleteMonday:
The Selection
The Tomorrow People/The Hundred
Tuesday
Company Town
Hart of Dixie
Wednesday
Arrow
Supernatural
Thursday
The Vampire Diaries
The Originals
Friday
Beauty and the Beast
Nikita
As long as it doesn't copy X-men in the tone of the show (like Arrow does with Batman) I think it will be good :)
ReplyDeleteWhy cant they ever move the Vampire Diaries to a new night? Supernatural has been on four different time slots in 8 seasons (Tuesdays in season one, Thursdays in seasons 1 1/2- 5 Fridays seasons 6-7 and now Wednesday is season 8) Its not right to keep shuffling it's day.
ReplyDeleteI remember the 1990's version of The Tomorrow People, though the 1970's one pre-dates me a bit. I abso-loved the 1990's version as a kid, always wanting those fantastic powers and even writing my own episodes in my head at an early age. They were on YouTube for a bit, but I've never found them on DVD. A little cheese-ball? Sure, but I found them thoroughly enjoyable at the time. :D
ReplyDelete"...love triangles" THERE you lost me :P
ReplyDeleteIt would be interesting if they ended back up on Tuesday nights (or Thursdays again) well we will see. I'm hoping and keeping good thoughts for season 9 (esp with the new arc of the Men of Letters).
ReplyDeleteSPN wont be on Thursdays again for several reasons
ReplyDeleteArrow doesn't "copy" Batman's tone. That's DC Comics tone. And it seems to be working because Arrow is their highest rated show right now.
ReplyDeleteLove triangles? Ugh! And here I thought this one sounded promising in the original synopsis.
ReplyDeleteProbably on Tuesday night in the death slot because they know SPN has the least trouble getting its fandom to follow wherever it goes.
ReplyDeleteJust curious but why do you think the CW would pair Originals with Supernatural instead of Vampire Diaries. I thought the point of the spin-off was to get a hit in the post-VD slot. My take is that Originals after VD on Thursdays is about as sure a thing as you can get when talking only at the pilot level.
ReplyDeleteBecause Vampire Diaries is the only real hit they have and it's still doing well in that spot. They would be crazy to change it now. Supernatural moves because its fan base is willing to go wherever it is. I wouldn't be upset about it. It's one of the reasons why Supernatural is still on the air. In fact, it has to be a real plus for the CW when creating schedules. I expect to see it on Tuesdays next year with Arrow staying on Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteMe too. It sounds like the CW is trying to capture their two diverse fan groups (teens and genre lovers) in one show, therefore making it more likely that they will capture neither.
ReplyDeleteI am curious. If it goes to Mondays, will it be the only once-a-week TV show to have been scheduled to air new episodes on every day Monday-Friday?
ReplyDeleteTrust me if there had been no Nolan-Trilogy there would be no Arrow and if there was it would be more in the vein of smallville. Copy is maybe the wrong word.. influenced heavily. It is an okay show but you wouldn't really call it ground-breakingly original would you?
ReplyDelete“Mutants”????? They’re calling them “mutants” and comparing
ReplyDeletethem to X-Men?! It’s obvious that these people have NO IDEA what they’re doing
when it comes to writing a real TP script!!!
The REAL TP were considered the next stage in human
evolution and these non-fans WHO KNOW NOTHING OF THE ORIGINAL SERIES are going
to give us some crap X-Man / Vampire Diaries / teenage soap opera cross-breed
trash!!!
I’m a REAL fan of the ORIGINAL 70’S SERIES (as
seen on Nickelodeon) and this garbage is NOT the real Tomorrow People!!! They
need to stick to SCIENCE FICTION and throw out the supernatural crap!!!
I can see them splitting SPN and Arrow up to anchor two different nights so that doesn't worry me. And I guess I can absolutely see this show as a good companion for Arrow....
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I don't think they'll move HoD from Tuesday. It seems to be working the timeslot as best it can. So my guess is Tuesday's will be the non genre night....
ReplyDelete"The series is lighter in tone than CW shows like "The Vampire Diaries' filled with CW high school drama and love triangles." -> Dear CW, this is a major stop in the WRONG direction. You're supposed to be moving away from the teen drama BS which no one is watching anymore, hence the ratings Gossip Girl and 90210 have been getting.
ReplyDeleteIf this show gets picked up, and that's what it ends up being, it's yet another nail in the network's coffin.
No interest in this show, but the last part 'Word is the CW is eyeing this as a possible companion for Arrow next season' - CLEARLY means that Arrow has already been renewed
ReplyDeleteMTE! :-) I'm just sick of love tringles... Recently I've watched Paley Fest 2012 of TVD and when the host told Julie that she said that the love triangle will end at the end of the season (3, well it didn't), Ian, Nina and Stefan were so surprised and excited, like, "You said that?", "It will end?" I was done tbh, they're sick of it too :D
ReplyDeleteI'm interested in seeing the political ramifications of these two groups in a high school setting.
