Supernatural - Season 8 - Robert Singer Interview

1 Feb 2013

Supernatural's executive producer Robert Singer talked about The Winchesters new found heritage.

The boys will have a new home base. Asked about the super-secret room that they now have the key to, Singer said, "The reveal of that place is a really stunning set. It's full of mysteries. It will become kind of a home base for the boys. We're really excited about it. After 8 years of never having a home base, this will be home base for quite some time and I think you guys will really dig the set, it's really cool."

The new place will have a lot of information in it for the Winchesters. Asked about what Sam and Dean will find in the new place, Singer said, "The Men of Letters; if you took dad's journal and you multiplied that by a hundred, [that's what you'd get there]. It's got every source of information that would be interesting to the boys."

  1. I love the concept as long as it doesn't make it too easy on the boys. That's half the fun of the show.

  2. I worry because my favorite parts usually are the road trip feel with the brothers in the Impala, and the sense of wandering. Bobby's house was great but it wasn't theirs so it worked. But a permanent base they own is iffy for me. If it results in saving enough money for more classic rock I'll change my tune.

  3. its one of the most expensive sets they've ever had on the show and its going to be around for at least all of season 8 so they wont be saving any money there.

  4. After all these years, I no longer agree with that. I would be perfectly find spending the rest of the series seeing demons, angels, and everything else being scared sh*tless of the Winchesters.

  5. I'd kind of like to see them loaded to the hilt just blasting and bashing away until there's nothing left but puddles of mashed bone. They do spend too much time shooting while running backwards. And I would still enjoy a "cerebral" episode like the last one.

  6. Makes me think Season 9 will be announced soon. Can't see the studio putting out loads of cash for a half season of a show that's going to be canceled.

  7. I am sure Sam will be in hog heaven in that room, what a treasure trove.

  8. I don't know look at the space ship on Firefly and Fox cancelled that, after messing with the order of the eps. I sometimes really dislike Fox. lol But I agree I think we will get at least 2 more seasons.

  9. So it's the Warehouse 13 of the supernatural, huh?

  10. I loved the road trip feel of the earlier seasons, but I haven't felt that in a while. The fact that Bobby's house wasn't theirs didn't work for me. I liked Bobby but I felt they were stuck in the file of kids as long as they were living with "dad." I may change my mind on this, but the base sounds like a welcome change right now.

  11. As soon as this episode concluded, I asked how quickly the crossover fan fic between Supernatural and Warehouse 13 would start. It seems an inevitable comparison right now.

  12. If the brothers are in character, not fighting every episode, the heroes of their own story, and heading in the same direction on the quest, then I'll be satisfied no matter what the setting is. Season 7 reminded me of how important the Impala was and how much Bobby meant to me. Season 8 has made me realize that the brother bond I thought was a rock solid foundation could actually be taken away by the writers. I'm not taking the brothers for granted again. They can add a new house, spend a good portion of the episodes reading and expositing, and/or take half an episode shopping at Home Depot to get the place how they want it, and I'll be good just as long as they are doing it as brothers again. No more rifts. No more contrived drama. No more spotlighting secondary characters while the brothers do their wallpaper impression. Then I'll be happy.

  13. Pretty sure they are looking for it to be part of the 3-year arc Jeremy Carver talked about at Com-Con.

  14. I don't know about soon, but it will definitely be announced by May. I would say probably in April.

  15. Gosh, you summed up my hopes and feelings for SPN's future perfectly.

Here's hoping you have suddenly developed telepathic abilities and can mentally force the writers to do your bidding! :)

  16. Ah if only I could. Supernatural would be vastly different if I were in charge than it is now.

  17. Loved the small insight into the new home base with the 2nd trailer of 8.13, can't wait to see more the library.

  18. Agreed, I also think some "Poltergeist - The Legacy" fans will see similarites between the "Men of the Letters" and "The Legacy" and start writing crossover fics.
    :)
