Ratings Breakdown:
It was all about CBS last night, of course. But the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, as predicted, was down considerably year-to-year. The telecast, hosted by LL Cool J, scored an estimated 19.0 rating/29 share in the overnights from 8-11 p.m., which was 25 percent below the 25.2/38 on the year-ago evening. That telecast, which featured a tribute to the sudden passing of Whitney Houston, rose to its second most-watched episode ever with 39.91 million viewers and a 14.1 rating/33 share in the demo (based on the Live Plus Same Day ratings). Compared to the overnights in 2011 (17.9/27 on 2/13/11), however, last night’s telecast was up by six percent. Earlier in the evening on CBS was granddaddy 60 Minutes at a dominant 8.6/14 in the overnights from 7-8 p.m. Tick, tick, tick…the clock will keep running forever on the 44-year old newsmagazine.

ABC was below average, no doubt, with its combination of veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (#2: 4.2/ 7), Once Upon a Time (#2: 4.6/ 7), Revenge (#2: 4.0/ 6), which has not benefited since moving to Sunday, and reality-driven Revenge For Real (#2t: 2.2/ 4), which was themed The Miami Millionaire last night. NBC, meanwhile, ducked from the Grammys with an encore line-up of Dateline (#3: 4.1/ 7), Betty White’s 2nd Annual 90th Birthday Special (#4; 2.2/ 3) and Saturday Night Live in the ‘80s: Lost and Found (2.1/ 3 from 9-11 p.m.).

Fox capped off the evening with its animated combination of a repeat of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 1.4/ 4), The Cleveland Show (#4: 1.7/ 3), The Simpsons (#3: 2.6/ 4), the regularly scheduled edition of Bob’s Burgers (#4: 2.0/ 3), Family Guy (#3: 2.9/ 4) and American Dad (#3: 2.4/ 4). Opposite The Grammys, Fox also lost noticeable steam.

  1. So I'm expecting about 2.0 for Once Upon a Time and 1.4 for Revenge in 18-49s. Shame because Revenge was amazing!

  2. Well ABC is known to pit it's Sunday's shows against major awards shows which lower the ratings of it's shows like when DH was still on. But then again ABC only does this because it knows it's shows wont take too much of a hit since they are steady with its ratings

  3. They really should've avoided the Grammys.

  4. The Grammy's are a joke...

  5. I agree, I think this is a hit both shows won't recover well from. Once might hit a 3.0 again but I'm afraid after this it will float between 2.0 and 2.8. Revenge is very serialised and wasn't ABC's biggest show to begin with so I'm guessing it will now stick to high 1's and low 2's. I absolutely love both shows so I wish both did better and will do better but I really hope I'm wrong.

  6. Yeah I'm not fond of award shows either.

  7. The show but not the awards themselves

  8. I guess they couldn't avoid the Grammys because they'll already have the Oscar break.

  9. Well, I respect ABC for offering alternatives to the all these award shows.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Yeah, it still sucks, especially after already haven taken a break.

  11. Revenge started this season with a 3.2 in the demo, and than stayed around the 2.8 - 2.4 up until it came back but this horrible schedule is killing it and it will now be down to a 1.5. Cancellation territory for ABC, its a serialized drama so do not see it getting back up in the ratings, season 3 is now no longer a sure bet, never would have expected this to happen but ABC have killed many good shows over the years!

  12. well, first of all ABC CAN'T air their shows against the Oscars because they are airing on ABC and second of all, ABC could have just waited until next Sunday to air these episodes

    ReplyDelete
  13. but then they have like a month off in March/April, can't they just miss another week and have less repeats elsewhere!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Same here, the awards show chipped away at DH's rating and it had higher ratings at the time.
This came after a long break and up against an award show.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yeah totally forgot they are this year's oscar rotation so my bad. Also they couldn't wait till next week because longer breaks mean for lower rating returns. Plus its better to have 2 eps then break than than 1 ep, break, 1 ep then long break.

  16. Well Revenge will be cancelled soon, good job ABC. I am boycotting that channel.

  17. You're prediction was 90% spot on

  18. No, Revenge will have a season 3, maybe it will be the last one but...

  19. I hate to complain like this and I seldom do so, but honestly, ABC deserves that 4th place, they are killing Revenge and Once Upon a Time with this stupid scheduling. The shows do not deserve this, but ABC does. They are completely insane for what they are doing, screw them. I have nothing else to add honestly, it is just too sad, as I love both shows dearly

  20. yeah, in this day and age you have to protect your shows. Times are tough and ABC has made some really puzzling decisions over the last few weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Correction,ABC has made puzzling decisions over the past few years!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I don't understand why ABC pit OUAT and Revenge against the big awards shows, but they need to stop. At least OUAT did semi-well.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I guess next year at this time we'll see OUAT and Revenge against the 56th Annual Grammy Awards and talk about the same matter.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Exactly. They have done exactly the same to DH the last few years...
