1. Well, if that isn't the set up for the season finale, I don't know what is.

2. Even though I saw it coming, I loved that final shot.

3. Awesome as usual. :D

The name is Finch's! :o Just as Reese gets the police off his back and his past, now Finch is going to be in trouble.

Loved the Team Machine scenes. That rooftop scene was intense scary, though of course, I knew Finch would get the number.

Also loved Reese reuniting with Bear. So sweet. And I loved Reese's smile. :)

4. Such a mythology heavy episode! I loved it! There was nothing procedural about it, and that is a rare thing for a CBS crime show.

Yes, we all saw the ending coming, but it still had that effect on us (on me, at least) that Finch still isn't who we think he is, and that the friendship between him and Reese is not coincidental at all.

Ugh, goodbye Kara and Snow. I really liked them, but Stanton now has a serial killer's following to catch.

POI isn't your average crime show. ;)

6. So good, no case of the week and all of Team Machine got a chance to shine. Carter's reaction to John's situation was the best for me. Also Bear knocking John down, just made smile. Sorry to see Kara go but at least we still have Root holding it down for the villainesses. Just a ton of visual imagery that echoed episodes past as well as filling in the mythology a bit. Just all in all an awesome episode. What I wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall in that writers' room.

7. Finch said something will happen 5 months after this episode. This episode takes place during November 2012 so it will happen in April 2013. It's possible it might not be in the season finale but in few episodes before the finale.

I wonder when we will find out the truth about Ordos, China. It has something to do with The Machine and it is implied at the end of this episode that Finch was the one behind sending Reese and Stanton to Ordos.

8. Freaking awesomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I back later to comment.

9. It just gets better and better, AWESOME

10. Such a great episode for an amazing show, truly. With the loss of Fringe in the past 2 weeks, POI definitely fills the gap that Fringe left behind (not to mention the 20-something other shows I watch).

It was nice having Kara back and see what was up with her, and Snow for that matter, but it sucks that she had to go like that. Although, got to hand it to Snow for going out with a bang... bad pun intended, I'm sorry.

I was hoping the name would be Ingram and we'd find out/think he's secretly alive, but once Kara/Snow died it was obvious we'd find out the name was Finch. Curious if it was all an elaborate set up to save Reese's life if he knew something was going to happen in China. And I'm very curious as to what's going to happen in 5 months. POI definitely does mythology episodes better than nearly anyone else, it just continues to build upon itself and be bigger and better!

Kinda dig Reese/Carter now cause they're pretty similar. Her being upset that he was going to let himself die and him saying she knew why he had to. Maybe not romantic or anything, but still their relationship is a good one. Fusco was underutilized but amidst everything else that was understandable.

But the best part of the episode was Bear reuniting with Reese! We need more Bear and Fusco!

11. I loved this episode. It was as awesome as I expected. I loved that Resse was NOT going to kill. And loved that it was important to him to protect the machine. Was there really a fan of this show who didn't know, when the guy said the name was of someone completely off the grid, that the name was going to be Finch's? I love the relationship between Reese and Finch. I smiled so hard when Bear tackled John.

Yeah, the second they didn't say the name it was clear it had to be Finch with a very outside chance it was Ingram. My guess is Finch sold the Machine as a way to enforce some form of detente.

Loved it, though I was hoping that Kara would survive and remain an adversary at large. My guess is with Annie Parisse taking on a regular role on a rival network they decided to wrap her storyline up.

Though they have set the table for potential Reese/Finch fallout

ReplyDelete
14. My thoughts exactly! When Finch said "Something huge and unexpected will happen in five months"... Well, that could only mean one thing! :D

ReplyDelete
15. To be honest, I thought this one was a bit disappointing. I really liked that we got some huge mythology action, but some if it was so oddly executed, and I'm really frustrated to not know what Kara accomplished in this episode! Oh well, the new info we did get was very interesting and very promising for future storylines! Five months from now. ;)

-I thought it was interesting that Carter didn't tell Fusco about what happened at first. She still only sees him as a co-worker.

-So far the new villain is pretty cool. He's played by Jon Nolan's uncle!

-Kara telling John and Mark literally everything before they did it was a bit annoying.

-Finch hacked the DOD!

-Glad that Reese stayed true to himself throughout the whole thing... Never hurting innocents, and ''sacrificing'' himself for others.

-Not so glad about Kara using John and Mark, knowing that they wouldn't help her, and doing everything herself in the end anyway. That's kind of strange. The fact that she was killed in the end was a disappointment too. She was a pawn, while she seemed like such a cool villain in all the other episodes. So cold and so smart... Not shooting either of them was not very smart either if it was so easy for them to escape.

-Loved Carter in this episode. Her and Finch. This episode definitely had some great character stuff. It probably would have been better if Carter had defused the bomb, because now it was so obvious that Finch was going to succeed. No way they were going to kill off BOTH leads. Still, it was a pretty intense scene, I'll give them that.

-Part of me did really enjoy watching Mark and Kara blow up. ''You were right, Kara. About me being dead. I'm gonna be great at it.''

-The FBI investigation has ended because they thought Snow was the man in the suit? Didn't they already have someone else for that role in the previous episode? Only Donnelly knew the truth before he died, so I thought the FBI investigation had ended there already! There's nothing that suggests that Snow was the man they were looking for.

-Was anyone surprised that Finch's name would be shown at the end? I thought that was pretty obvious 15 episodes ago when they introduced that storyline. :p

ReplyDelete
16. Possibly, and the security camera POV did make it look like she really got her cheese grated, but there were no visible bodies in the car in the aftermath, and she did manage to outrun a frickin' missile in China, so I think they left the door very slightly open for a return.

Well in Ordos Stanton probably had a minute or more to run from the blast site. Remember, we see Reese got pretty far away from the strike while Stanton is confused, he maybe had a minute or two to run. I think we can reasonable assume that in Ordos Stanton probably was only a few seconds behind Reese's reaction time.

Also, remember at the end of the episode the agent says they found evidence of Stanton. Add to that she only had 7 seconds to get away from Snow and she went after the bomb instead of running. If she's still alive it would be unbelievable for the rules of the universe in the show. The only way I see her returning is in a flashback, but they've kinda any real questions about her past with Reese.

18. Fantastic! - Love how Kara Stanton's arc came full circle and how we are introduced to people (or at least person representing a group) who seemingly want justice against the conduct of American Intelligence groups! This episode had some really great moments...double bomb vests, Reese willing to sacrifice himself, things with Donnelly sorted themselves out, ect.

I also love the concept of a DOD hidden floor at the top of a building, as apposed to something like in Alias having hidden sub-levels!

A lot of us thought that the Stanton might have been looking for Finch, but it seems that she didn't know before it was too late...but who ever this new player on the scene is, is going to be a pretty strong force! I'm going to miss Snow and Stanton (although I'm sure we'll see them in flashbacks) just because the characters were fun and/or ruthless and added a lot of texture to the series. -But I'll look forward to new characters too! -And I can't help to think that Root is out there getting ready to strike again!

100% Agree! There relationship seems so much better and weather they stay friends or become something more, it's nice that they have each other in their lives.

ReplyDelete
20. Ya. I think it makes sense that they killed her off too! Besides the actress's other gig the show so far has stayed grounded in reality with very little proof of supernatural phenomena, as artificial intelligence and echelon is something that we would consider real or on the verge of being plausible.

The show also seems to be written in a way where present-time important secondary characters tend to die and then we rely on them filling in blanks in upcoming/new character's flash backs to connect things together. (Ex: Corwin, Ingram, Donnelly, ect), which I think is a pretty cool thing and works well.

21. "Such a mythology heavy episode! I loved it! There was nothing procedural about it, and that is a rare thing for a CBS crime show."

Agreed! I'm so glad Bad Robot shines through on that count and that CBS has let them!!! IMO serialization makes it all so much better!

22. Awesome episode for me, remarkable moments "Dead Reckoning" work like a season finale, with tension growing higher and higher in every single scene, another great stuff is the dialogues between Reese and Finch, and the dialogues between Reese, Carter and Fusco.

The Kara backstory was just fantastic, the new villain Greer is an intriguing guy, the conversation between him and Stanto was excellent, talking about old and new gods is just amazing and make me think about the name of episode 17 'Proteus' and maybe he appears again.

The explosion at the was unexpected huge, the guys of visual effects did a great job and the song editing was good too.

Now the name of Finch was revealed in the end, I think the things are going to be more complicated in the future for the team machine.

23. The information about Jonathan Nolan uncle is cool, thanks for this.

24. Awesome! Just awesome. I love the way the series evolves. Keep it up, writers, cast and crew. You're doing a great job. :)

25. I guess for me personally I do not enjoy the grandiose action episodes as much as the more personal episodes. The show tends to surpass my suspension of disbelief too often. So many over-the-top scenes that defy logic and reality..... I will not go into them, but there were soooo many in this episode it was hard for me to really get into the episode.

That said, this episode was fairly fun and certainly had a lot of myth arc!

- I'm a bit sad that Kara Stanton is less of a mega-player and more of a vehicle to get to the new mega-player.I guess there is always someone pulling strings, but I was hoping she was on her own and more formidable.

- I liked how they wrapped up the FBI investigation for the most part. To have Snow be "The Man in the Suit" lets Reese to operate in the clear again, and unties Carter from these annoying investigations!

- I may be one of the few, but I think for the most part time spent on Bear is wasted time and just unneeded silliness.

This new shadow figure is intriguing....
I do wonder how high up or locked in he is though since we have met a number of figures that at one time appeared to be major players and turned out to be straw men. Does he last for seasons in a "Man behind the curtain" kind of role or is he just another rung on an ever-growing ladder?

Overall I guess it was a action-filled good episode that wrapped up many past myth arc strings and moved the show in a new direction.

26. So in the past we had The Man From U.N.C.L.E. and now we have the man who is uncle.... Interesting. XD

27. "The Kara backstory was just fantastic, the new villain Greer is an intriguing guy, the conversation between him and Stanto was excellent, talking about old and new gods is just amazing and make me think about the name of episode 17 'Proteus' and maybe he appears again."

Good call with the episode 17 title! :D I had forgotten it! Lost also had some illusions to Homer's works and if it spells out anything, then we should def assume change is coming to the series in some big way, as Proteus represents the ever changing motion of the nature of the sea (evolution)... There is also a German Alchemist, Kuhnwrath, that wrote of a shape-shifting sea God as both the representation of the unconscious and the perfection of art in the name of Mercury (Protean element)... Would kind of be neat if there was a literal mercury-based tech, but I'm sure I'm reaching now! :p

28. "Not shooting either of them was not very smart either if it was so easy for them to escape.

I think it's true about not being smart, but it leaves the viewers with an impression that maybe Kara wasn't as heartless or unsentimental as she led onto be. I think there's a good argument that she was she was very emotionally driven, despite her capacity to kill and despite that her revenge is blinding...

I kind of think we need to know way more about Snow and Corwin, and now Greer, to really understand Kara. I'm hopeful that more about all three of them will be exposed in flash backs...

"-The FBI investigation has ended because they thought Snow was the man in the suit? Didn't they already have someone else for that role in the previous episode? Only Donnelly knew the truth before he died, so I thought the FBI investigation had ended there already! There's NO evidence that suggests that Snow was the man they were looking for."

I think it was a strange turn out too and I'm not sure if I whole-heartedly by it...although Snow's previous activities surely seem suspicious, but I feel like it was "too easy" of a conclusion and suspect that there is some other reason for it playing out this way, or that something will spark the FBI's interest in "The Man in the Suit" again...

"-So far the new villain is pretty cool. He's played by Jon Nolan's uncle!"

Didn't know that! That is pretty cool! :)

ReplyDelete
29. It will def be interesting to see if Greer's information is in fact the truth, or if his agenda is just about getting a hold of the tech, or destroying the tech? -But it seems like the end of the season looks very promising and interesting to say the least!

ReplyDelete
30. It also showed through in the previous episode where Carter had to interrogate Reese and they shared stories (which I choose to believe for fairly truthful) about their pasts to one another because they trust one another enough to share in those details.

ReplyDelete
31. Awesome episode ( as usual), and Great points, I would love to see more of Bear and Fusco too.

ReplyDelete
32. I will miss Kara and Snow badly, they were cool, the actors are super awesome in this show, LOVE them all.

ReplyDelete
33. I am with you, and I also thought of the possibility his return in episode 17 'Proteus'.
Fusco was awesome too in this episode.

34. Serialization can be great, when done well as it is here and when a network lets a show run out to a logical conclusion--and when the show doesn't needlessly spin it out. POI is one of the rare examples of a show that's doing it well, in my opinion. But we're only 1.5 seasons in; I'm optimistic that it'll be able to maintain, but we'll see!

ReplyDelete
35. Great thanks for the information about Proteus.

ReplyDelete
36. I hope we will see lovely Annie Parisse again, such a talented actor.

ReplyDelete
37. Great explanation about Proteus, this give more excited to see the episode now.

ReplyDelete
38. To both João Paulo and Farvahar

Sure! Wikipedia has a fair amount of info on Proteus, but I think it probably will just turn out to be a mild reference alluding to change of order (as the Titan analogy suggested) and also to convey that Greer (and/or his associates) is an intellectual and/or philosophically minded. -A man with a vision.

POI has used very little cultural references with the exception of Finch's literary aptitude and an episode title that related to a time in Ancient India. It would be nice if this Grecian myth was also a prelude to something a little more sci-fi or supernatural, but probably not.

ReplyDelete
39. She is indeed. For the next while, you can see her in The Following.

40. Good question! I wonder that too! -POI has done a pretty good job at making certain characters look important only to throw a lot of them away. :D

I'm hoping though with the season 2 finale not being too far off now, with how much more serialized season 2 is, and with a likely renewal for S3 that we're going to start going deeper and with a little bit longer arcs...

ReplyDelete
41. What a great return episode!! I was a little worried that it would be more of Finch, Carter and Fusco trying to find where she took Snow and John to, but it was well planned out. I like the fact that this is all leading back to Finch and the machine. I'd love to have more flashback scenes of Finch again.

Best part had to be the ending with Snow going for Stanton in the end. Perfect! I think we all knew whose name the man gave Stanton too but it was cool to see it briefly on the paper as things burned.

POI is one of my remaining favorite shows and it never seems to fail to keep the story moving along in completely new directions during this second season!

ReplyDelete
42. Yay, I will do that, and many thanks.

ReplyDelete
43. I wonder how Reese will react to this whole FBI arc... He probably wouldn't stop - oh, I don't know - wearing a suit, would he? Will he be more careful about leaving evidence (dead bodies for example)?

ReplyDelete
44. @star_wearing_purple -- love your tag!

ReplyDelete
45. Excellent, thanks again for this.

ReplyDelete
46. I hate that they killed three reoccurring characters, I am going to miss them. If they keep killing all their characters off, they are going to need new ones. But I knew it was Harold but it could be a huge set up to save Reese's life and for Finch to gain control of the machine. I see Root coming back for the finale.

ReplyDelete
47. I really disliked it too, I hope to see them in flashbacks again & I am very excited about Root's return.

ReplyDelete
48. LOL! Probably not giving up the suit, but maybe he will be more careful about leaving evidence....unless there is going to be a reason he won't have to hide?!

ReplyDelete
49. I took the number we saw on the timer that was displayed on Finch's computer screen and transformed it from hours to days, 164 days. November 19th + 164 days= May 2nd or May 3rd. It's kind of interesting that it will happen around Reese's birthday! Maybe it will be the season finale.

ReplyDelete
50. it was great! i did not see the end coming with her dying although i knew it was finch the moment i heard the phone all. still, it was a nice reveal and i am intrigued to see where it leads. I am loving carter more and more btw, she rocks.

ReplyDelete
51. Reese's and Finch's backstories are sort of converging as the show goes on. That sort of explains why Finch chose to get Reese on his mission to take on the "irrelevant list". I guess everyone is going after the machine now. These new guys who kinda creepy me out a bit. Root, whatever her real name is. I can already imagine the finale is going to be explosive; much bigger than anything they did in season 1. Also, I would very much like to see more of this new shadowy Chinese backed CIA-like agency. Hope those guys will be back seeing as how the five month clock is on their plan. I have said this on this website before, Person Of Interest comes up with the best adversaries than any other show on air right now. They have created so many really interesting characters in just over 1 season. The potential for this show is huge!
