  1. It was much better than I expected - but so so so meta! :)

  2. It was really good! It still feels like the same show and everything. I'm so glad this show is back and I look forward to next week's episode!

  3. I read a lot of advanced reviews and all of them say the show sucked cause the characters tend to go somewhere... Well, if this is the final season we can't just keep playing with them, we must give them some closure...

So, if they are going to do a Jeff/Annie and Britta/Troy or such, they must go there since now... Neverless, there are some reviews that are all Hate just for the sake of hating...

I'm still wating to the show to make an apearence on Torrent(I'm from Argentina, so it's the only way I can see it... Don't judge me...), then i will say how it went...

  4. It was excellent, as episodes with little of Pierce and Chang tend to be.

  5. Was awesome! They actually read the feedback and then made fun of everything that could go wrong! xD

The Camera Work was weird, but it's just a tiny thing! This Season is gonna be awesome! I predict a lot of Jeff/Annie based on this Premier!

Also, the Dean living next to Jeff... That must be hilarious xDDD

  6. Finally ! I thought the episode was pretty good, a solid B+, but I'm not overly enthusiastic either. Maybe it's because I had seen almost all trailers, teasers, sneak peeks and whatnot available, there was not much surprise left. Well, my spoiler policy for the rest of the season is complete lockdown.

First, the negative : I feared this was gonna happen : I'm against all romantic relationships in ensemble comedies like Community. If I want that, I'll watch a romcom. And don't talk about that being the mark of characters "growing", of "closure", blablabla. Making the characters grow doesn't mean "oh, let's make couples in this group of friends, that'll shake things up".

Abed eventually coping with the fact that it's their senior year and there's nothing he can do about it, but it doesn't mean these people will stop being in his life, now that's growing. Britta and Troy holding hands is not.

Dan Harmon openly mocked NBC's will to force Jeff/Britta onto us, which was great. There's always been some teasing on Troy and Britta's part without it going too far, same for Jeff and Annie, and that was fine, even funny. Now, there's no subtlety anymore. What is so wrong in having them being just friends ?

And while I'm going against the majority, I also don't get all the Pierce hate. I may not find Chevy Chase's bevahiour acceptable but I'm not watching Chevy Chase, I'm watching Chevy Chase as Pierce Hawthorne, therefore it doesn't stop me from enjoying his character, which was never meant to be the likeable guy. And it turns out him trying to come up with a dirty joke about Jeff getting the Dean's balls was kinda funny (I wish he would have found a good one though — that reminds me of Troy there, btw : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9B8DdXmv-0c ).

The idea of having a multi-camera sitcom in Abed's mind is an awesome idea, but I can't help but feel it could have been exploited better. Nice to see Asian Annie again. And I like where they're going with Chang, who (seemingly) lost his mind. When you know he was in the airvents of City College in the season 3 finale, there's room for speculation. Hopefully this is the beginning of a giant, 3-season arc on City College trying to take down Greendale, starting with Chang "infiltrated" as a mole.

And I would totally watch Blind / Blonde. These fake ads at the bottom of the screen remind me of what 30 Rock did a few times (like Bitch Hunter, among other delicacies, or more recently Grizz and Herz).

  7. Loved it! It isn't without faults of course, they obviously tried a tad too hard in some parts, but it was still great.

They've kept the kooky weirdness that makes Community, Greendale, and the cast so appealing and entertaining. They called upon classic things from the previous 3 seasons with Dan Harmon (I'm land-dean, Changnesia, no big deal jessica biel (they rhyme a lot, watch a youtube video)). I think in the first few minutes I just had a big smile on my face just because it was wonderful to have the show and the cast back. It's like reuniting with a long lost friend who was kicked in the face repeatedly by a bad parent (NBC)... too far? Too far. Sorry.

Back to the episode, I'm glad they kind of toned down the Hunger-Deans part and didn't just focus on that. It was funny to see Jeff scrambling to get all the red balls and everyone invariably getting more and more beaten up as the competition went on. And the Dean now neighbors to Jeff, that right there will create some great antics.

I think they may have tried too hard with the baby Community thing. The whole Abed's happy place being a sitcom with a laugh track (was wondering when they would do that) was great, and having Fred Willard as Pierce was great. And I wasn't against a happy place within the happy place and the metaphor of it worked, just felt too far to me with the babies and the animation. At any rate, I thought the episode paced nicely and still felt, at its core, Community.

And as someone who likes Jeff/Annie and Troy/Britta I was happy to see the former get touched on a bit with Annie's wanting to do pranks with Jeff, and the latter being in a relationship. They didn't take away from the show.

Glad to have it back. October 19th didn't disappoint.

  8. I take that back. This episode broke my heart. They didn't even tease themselves right. What was up with the overuse of close ups even in the medical drama-esque walk and talk scenes! Everything was just... Off.
    Poor. Poor poor poor.

  9. Ahhh, October 19th never felt so good! Though not a blow me away ep, I enjoyed it immensely and loved that they incorporated poking fun at the cheesy sitcom situations and tropes via Abed's imagination. Welcome back to make Thursdays better once again!

  10. It was interesting and as others mentioned it did seem forced in some parts. I have no idea how Harmon would have approached this episode and I don't want to. I know that is harsh but if this is the last season of Community I'll try and enjoy it as itself not as "What would Dan Harmon do?". I was really taken back by the addition of the laugh-track before the reveal that it was in Abed's mind but it also helped remind me that this is a different Community.

  11. That was horrifyingly unfunny. I'm sad now.

  12. I found this episode quite funny, but it was a little off. I was probably just nit-picking, trying to point out faults in a dan harmon-less Community, when I should just be enjoying their return.

But Abed's and my happy place are the same: I wish Fred Willard had been Pierce all along...

  13. I agree with this post especially about the pairings on this show. I just don't feel any of these 'couples' this show isn't about couples and I feel like they are just trying too hard to make shippers happy and that needs to end.

  14. I actually enjoyed the episode. Although I did feel it was a lot of wasted opportunities. Shirley and Annies plot could have been built upon and have more laughs, Jeffs as well, I reckon if they focused on the Hunger Games more it would have been up there with the best (with maybe more study group members entering). It did feel with all bar Abeds storyline that it was like "this is what this character is doing this week" - moving on...

It felt very much like the writers had a point to prove with this episode and they handled it head on, and therefore very poorly. Abeds storyline grew irritating fast and the whole cartoon segment seemed to be put in there just for the kookiness value. I felt the writers tried to hard this episode and conversely failed to make a good impact, it also felt it lost some of that Community feel, like Shirley deciding to do a prank with Annie. Usually there would be a reason behind it, more than "just cuz" there were a few instances of that which I think is what was truly wrong and could be the potentially most worrying sign about the change.

That said, I did enjoy the episode and whilst I only laughed a couple of times (and really they could have just cut Pierce out of the episode - once again he detracted from the viewing experience) I was smiling throughout. It could have been a lot worse. I'd be hard pushed to say this was even close to my favourite episodes but I would definitely not put it anywhere near the bottom. (Try the goddamn awful Abed hiring celebrity impersonators episode)

In other news, I keep wondering if some of this storyline changed later on. Like why was Pierce different in some of those Abed scenes? Im wondering if there was some quick editing to make it seem like a joke when it was actually a rewrite after he left. I mean even for Community Pierce had basically nothing at all to do that episode.

  15. i loved it! i had missed it so much! it felt to me the same community. obviously i always like some episodes better than others so it is hard to compare one episode with 3 seasons just like that, but i liked what i saw. could have gone deeper on the hunger games concept though, but it was still fun. loooved the abed's multicam version of community with the replaced pierce, it was hysterical!
