Great episode front to back. My only nitpick is Oliver being a bit hypocritical at the end. Last week he (as The Hood) cut ties with Laurel because he deemed it too dangerous for her to be involved with him and said he wasn't willing to take he risk. One episode later, Oliver wants to bring Felicity into the fold and insists that he can protect her.
Yao Fei. I can't believe we got that Wintergreen reference either. My heart skipped a beat. Just an amazing episode. Chocked full of Easter eggs too, the last few episodes lacked them.
I think Ollie wanting to cut ties with Laurel is because she didn't know the secret and he wasn't ready to tell her, so that equals blind danger whereas Felicity knows and has a vested interest (however flimsy and that being Walter) so she can see some warning signs but next episode will be the learning curve episode b/c it seems she's already in danger, if that makes sense but I agree about the hypocritical aspect but everyone is at one point of another on the show, so...
There are two sides to the "blind danger" argument. Yes, Felicity knows what she's getting into, whereas Laurel doesn't, but that means she knows a lot more about the vigilante and his operation. That makes her even more of a high-value target than Laurel would be who essentially knows absolutely nothing about The Hood. Knowing more doesn't negate danger. It makes things more dangerous.
Loved the ep. It was cool for the island story to be the A-Story for a change. Oliver stepped on the landmine and in every close up of his foot he loked like he was practically bouncing. I love that they aren't rushing the flashback and giving Oliver his skills too quickly. Man that boy was a moron (really Oliver...you called Laurel?) when he first got to the island. LOL.
Note to Fyas(sp?) If you're going to put a guy in a tower that's suppose to alert you to problems, don't put him in a sound proofed room so they can't hear men being shot and sliced up all around you. :-) Also, challenge code good idea....giving folks so much time to respond that they and guess the response...not great.....and while I'm at it...using a popular quote for the challenge? There's a reason the spys in 50s novels would use random statements.
I get where Digg is coming from...but pushing a guy to go after his mother is a major mistake. Oliver isn't ready to deal and that's why he got shot.
There's actually one hell of a huge following for Oliver and Felicity. I believe the shipper name is Olicity. I swear, it's surpassed Oliver and Laurel by a huge margin.
Extremely solid episode. I didn't expect so much of the Island story but I enjoyed it immensely. The fight between Slade and his old partner was well done, and I look forward to seeing Oliver's training on the island to see him transition from his old cocky self to the bad ass he is now.
The present stuff was good with Felicity and Diggle's discussions. I look forward to a new, different presence in the group (even if its just temporary). I expect Felicity will end up not joining up with Oliver/Diggle once they find Oliver's step dad, but I also expect her to kind of miss it after she leaves and then join back up.
Lmao, this is funny b/c I just thought about it, and just finished watching the episode(Didn't watch last night), and said hmmm what can their name be Olicity?? And here you go saying it, lol....I did see some chemistry with them in this episode, I mean I've known for awhile that she had a thing for him, but it this one it showed a lot! I think Oliver definitely sees it, he's just not there yet.
Possibly, lol! Diggle is right that there is very good reason to take a hard look at Moira. Perhaps it's a bit much to expect that Ollie will want to do so, however.
Speaking of hypocrisy, I'm not sure why he's suddenly decided not to investigate his mom's criminal activities anymore. Oh right, she asked him (as the Hood) not to kill her because she has children who need her, and he's one of those children so that gets to him. But while her words may have been true, it was CLEARLY an emotional manipulation to get him to let his guard down, hence shooting him 2 seconds later. It's so dumb. If the writers' goal was simply to delay the full-on confrontation between Oliver and Moira, where she reveals the truth, they could have simply had Oliver state that she'll be on the lookout for the Hood from now on, so he has to try to figure out what she's doing in more subtle ways.
I don't see how. It's too early to tell the extent of her involvement, true, but Diggle is not suggesting they hurt Moira, send the authorities after her or anything like that. All he wants is for them to continue looking into her activities, because there's hard evidence that she's involved in something dangerous and criminal. If they find out she's under duress or otherwise not as culpable as she seems, fine, but they have to look into it. Oliver is being ridiculous, not to mention hypocritical, by deciding to bury his head in the sand and act like nothing is going on with his mom.
Oliver's decision was double standard for sure but most people aren't objective when it comes to family. It's not the right decision but it's understandable. I think the more robotic PTSD Oliver at the beginning of the series would have kept going without hesitation but he's softened up since he got back.
Easily the best episode of Arrow. We get a lot of info on his time on the island. Shado makes an appearance. William Wintergreem, Slade, all names associated with Deathstroke in various versions of the story. I like all these easter eggs. The story was, above all, really good. There were some things that were not believable on the island, but just minute things this time. The plot overall was pretty well thought out. They seem to have something resembling a plan as to what exactly is going on, on that island. And I am pretty sure it has something to with whatever Oliver's mom is involved in. What exactly it is remains to be seen.
I am starting to get the feeling they have close the island chapter this season and start a new story next season. I'm sure there is a lot of material to draw from.
I understand him reacting emotionally, of course, which is why I don't fault him for not wanting to look into it at first, when Felicity approached him. All he had was Walter's word that he got the book from Moira - extremely circumstantial evidence. However, Diggle has now presented him with the hard evidence of the recording of Moira's chat with Malcolm. It's beyond the point where bias is acceptable. Most importantly, it's not like Diggle wants them to anonymously deliver the recording to the police or something. If they did that, while the tape itself would be inadmissible in court, the police would investigate Moira's activities and try to gather evidence on her, and she could end up being prosecuted and going to jail. The whole situation would be out of Dig and Ollie's control. But no, all Diggle wants is for them to keep looking into what Moira's doing, so they can get a clearer picture of things and make an informed decision. Oliver is refusing to do even that, and frankly could be endangering a lot of lives for all he knows.
I prefer Oliver and Felicity as platonic friends, but I would actually get behind them hooking up just to prevent Oliver/Laurel, who are totally dreary and chemistry-free to me. Unfortunately, it seems inevitable that they'll be endgame, even if a lot of fans like a different pairing. (Now mentally bracing myself for 14 or so downvotes...)
Well, like I said, it's the wrong decision. Oliver's probably afraid of what he might have to do if he finds out the whole truth behind what Moira's up to. A lot of people would probably avoid the situation if it meant they might have to take down or take out their own mother.
easily the best episode of the show so far! I loved that we spent so much time on the island flashbacks and we really got to see the beginning of the oliver that we know today, all brave and mighty. The present day scenes with felicity were also excellent. Very good episode! The CW is on a roll this week imo, with both arrow and tvd having the best episodes of their seasons. If only Nikita was new as well this week!
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteBest episode of the series. I love Slade and Yoa-Fai (I know I likely spelled it wrong, anyone have the correct spelling?)
ReplyDeleteYao Fei.

ReplyDeleteI love flashbacks, fantastic ep start to finish.

All in all...awesome episode.

ReplyDeleteAlso Slade mentioned his son, who was a Teen Titan in the comics. :)

Am I the only one who thinks Diggle is being a little harsh with Oliver? And a little too gung ho in crucifying Moira?

This was the perfect episode imo! Had my two favourite types of scenes - flashbacks & felicity!
