How the heck would Hook or anyone know how magic would work outside of Storybrooke? And why wouldn't magic work outside of Storybrooke? Emma and Pinocchio both had magic outside of Storybrooke. I'm missing something. I do like Rumple exposition though, it should be fun.
ReplyDelete"Emma and Pinocchio both had magic outside of Storybrooke". When? I can't remember that they doing magic outside but they both weren't cursed so they are different.
ReplyDeleteWell, I do remember August showing Neal something that immediately convinced him that magic exists.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason I'm mostly interested in the Emma/Gold storyline right now, even though I'm fairly certain of the outcome (Neal = Bae). Maybe it's Gold going to NY for the first time. It's odd that Emma is asking I assume Neal if he's "Gold's son." I would say Rumpelstiltskin.
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that too. Rumpelstiltskin would be the only name he'd know him by but I guess it's because Emma is used to him being Mr. Gold.
ReplyDeleteIn the pilot, Emma made a wish to not be alone on her birthday and Henry knocked on her door. Later, August starting turning to wood.
ReplyDeleteEmma's the only one I don't mind using Storybrooke names, 'cause I figure to her that's who they are and the only person she knows them as really (they still work and dress like their Storybrooke characters, not their real FTL characters).
ReplyDeleteLOVE this!
ReplyDeleteWas hoping that maybe Ben and Owen casting might actually be Rumple and his father, and now that the seer-girl revealed that part of Rumples identity lies in fearing becoming like his father, seems to point in that direction! -But I also love the idea of multiple seers, and that either this girl is a greater seer than Rumple, and/or all seers have different parts of the puzzle! -But also that even having a vision of the future has it's limitations, when one might not understand the context of the vision itself!
Given that he knows August, including that the note that August sent him that reveals the curse is "broken", may suggest that Neal, whether Bae or not, knows something about magic and/or magical reality manifesting itself in Storybrook via curse, otherwise "broken" wouldn't mean anything to him....
ReplyDeleteYou can't assume Emma's wish came true because she used magic. Henry had already set out to find her when she made her wish, he didn't find her as a result of her wishing it. Besides, it was foretold that on her 28th birthday she would go to Storybrooke to begin "the final battle". As for August, his transformation started when Emma decided to stay in Storybrooke, it was probably her magic that caused it. In 1x20 when he tried to show her that his leg was turning to wood, she didn't see it - but how do we know if Emma didn't see it because she didn't believe, or if only August saw it because he did believe?
ReplyDeleteMy point is, we don't know for sure whether Emma or August can use magic when they're out of town.
here a spoiler i learn about Manhattan- Is there anything you can tell us about Mr. Gold's reunion with his son? —
ReplyDelete; The details of how this reunion takes place were actually foretold long ago, as a flashback will reveal — and that's not a good thing, at least for one series regular. Suffice it to say, do not miss the final 30 seconds of Sunday's episode.
Hmm, why would Rumple say his son has been running for a very long time?? What/who from? Has he seen glimpses of Neal/Bae running from the police?
ReplyDeleteWell, the 1st case could very well be a coincidence. And the second one, I'm not sure it qualifies as magic. Remember Emma saw August turning into wood before she believed the curse was real and didn't see anything unusual...
ReplyDeleteI guess magic being limited to Storybrooke makes sense, because our world theoretically doesn't have magic. It was brought here by Rumple using true love and that was only possible, as far as I understand, because the curse itself had true love in it. Whatever's left of the curse is keeping the town people and magic locked inside it.
But that is a very interesting discussion. What happens if they are able to break the last remains of the curse? Does magic survive or does it disappear? No idea.
We already know that August told Neal he would let him know when the curse was broken.
ReplyDeleteThe point of Emma having magic or is a source for magic is moot when she does not believe in it before going to FTL. Now that she is back she still does not believe it is her birthright.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was my point...So it stands to reason that in order to know about the curse, and that August kept in contact with him, that he might also know about the Storybrookers having multiple identities.
ReplyDeleteExcellent point! And I agree it's a neat thing to think about,
ReplyDeleteWell what if both are true? -I mean the curse itself, despite being aimed at keeping Snow unhappy, also showed us a lot of "repeated history" from FTL to Storybrooke. So what if Emma wishing for something did make it so, because ultimately that is what Emma is fated to do via how Rumple set up the curse?
ReplyDeleteBut I agree that you make a good point about the power of belief in relation to magic, or perhaps just in relation to Emma's perception of it! However, now that the curse is broken it appears muggles from TLWOM can see it when they are there. I know we don't know a lot about Greg, but apparently he could see magic, no whether Greg is a true LWOM-er or if he is someone capable believing in magic is surely open to discussion, and perhaps his Star Wars ring tone does suggest someone with an ineptitude for liking fantasy...But ultimately I think you are right and we don't know for sure yet if Emma or August (or anyone else) can use magic out side of Storybrooke, but I would bet if someone might be able to, it would be Emma. (I always kind of thought maybe when she was a child, when it might have been easier to believe, she might have experienced/used magic, but telling others about it got her in more trouble???)
Good questions and I'm assuming we have some reality travelers that have been in and out of TLWOM all along! It might be that Emma and August are special variables because of how they were configured in relation to the curse...they weren't confined to 'the bubble' like everyone else was...but maybe there is also something else we're missing. And I also think it will be good fun with Rumple :D
ReplyDeleteYou mean that Emma was granted her wish because Rumple had written it in the curse? Wouldn't that be the magic of the curse then, and not Emma's? You are absolutely right that Rumple would have made sure that Henry goes to Emma on her 28th birthday. But in that case it's still his doing and not hers.
ReplyDeleteIt seems to me that before Gold brought magic to Storybrooke, only the magic that had been already activated in FTL was still alive in the "land without magic" (the Blue Fairy enchanting August; Emma's connection to the curse as the Saviour; Regina's magical objects etc). The only exception are curses - since the Dark Curse was "the curse to end all curses", Gold was no longer controlled by the dagger and Ruby didn't turn into a wolf.
Anyway, I agree that Greg is quite an enigma at this point, but I'm not yet interested in finding out whether he is a muggle or an undercover fantasy character. There are far too many fascinating storylines to wrap up before moving on to the next twist.
What I mean is even though it's ultimately his doing, doesn't mean his doing didn't grant her power, power that perhaps to a certain degree, he hasn't even realized she has, because using True Love in relation to this curse might be somewhat of an experiment, because he might not "exactly" know everything there is to know about how it would manifest, and or even in relation to 'broken' curse...
ReplyDeleteThe thing with the Seer(s) in this episode, basically kind of suggests that even if Rumple himself was lead to create this curse through visions of the future, (just as he tells Henry in this episode), understanding what one is seeing, isn't as simple as it seems, because it lacks context...Additionally this girl seer knows things that are going to happen to him, that he doesn't know. So it does say something about everyone having a limitation and a piece of the puzzle rather than someone knowing all of it, or someone choosing to only disclose so much information about 'the true nature' of whatever we are dealing with.
Excellent point.
ReplyDeleteI don't know. According to the writers the curse is "broken". I disagree, but they've never been particularly clear or consistent on what constituted the curse. Because I don't know why the boundary spell still exists if the curse is "broken". I'm not sure I follow your logic with the magic and true love being bound with the curse--he brought the true love here inside of Maleficent, and the true love breaking was his escape clause for Emma. Our world didn't have magic but any magic brought here seemed to continue working within or without of town boundaries--August believed he was turning to wood and everybody but Emma could see it and the explanation they gave was because she was willing herself not to believe. Since he was in fact turning to wood, I'd have to say he was right all along and some magic effected him in Bali or wherever.
ReplyDeleteI don't think magic was tied to the curse. I think he "restored" it with the well and true love. If they had had it move through the well and ground water instead of purple smoke, I think it would seemed more restrictive, but they didn't show any boundaries when he released the magic.
from what i heard Mr. Gold’s journey to find his son definitely is not going to go smoothly, Mr. Gold’s reunion with his son is going to be a big confrontation and its going to be a bad one and one of the flash back will reveal how bad its going to be so everyone who saying if Neal is bae its going to be boring and this will be whack have no idea what you are talking about cause if neal is bae then we going to see a very angry and mean Neal who will probably try yo kill mr gold
ReplyDeleteHere a big ass teaser- while some of you believe to have the mystery of Rumplestiltskin’s son all figured out, I shall relate a lesson Bae’s dad is about to learn from a sneaky seer: Just because you know what’s going to happen doesn't mean you know what’s going to happen,so if Neal is bae he going to either not remember him or try to kill him or the bigger shocker will be that he not bae but his son but then they say its confirm that Mr gold will meet his son so it can be a bigger shock that bae is going to to kill Mr gold or turn out to be just as evil as his father
