Here is an interesting video that is part of a new online series called "Man at Arms" where a master swordsmith will forge an iconic sword each week. Here is the synopsis.
Every week our master swordsmith and renowned propmaster, Tony Swatton, forges iconic weapons using high-speed belt grinders, scorching furnaces, and pounding power hammers. Then he takes his weapon to the streets to bust up some stuff.
In our Premiere Episode, Tony builds Jaime Lannister's sword from "Game of Thrones." This blade will be crafted from scratch, with a hilt forged from molten bronze, and then taken outside for an epic battle against a windshield.

It's so interesting to see how much work goes into creating one sword and then consider that Game of Throne's hand-crafts all of its weapons and armor... The scale of the production is just awe inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteI think it's a little bit sad that in almost all films or TV shows, the only ones who get mentioned or rewarded are the actors.
ReplyDeleteThere are so many people doing an amazing job in the shadow -as we can see here- that we almost never hear about: people creating costumes, accessories, backgrounds (real or virtual), people making the sound effects, the soundtrack, the post production,...
All these people deserve recognition too, Award ceremonies for them and as good salaries as the actors that star in the film/TV show (or the actors should have smaller salaries IMO; I'm talking about great productions); because come on, their work is worth it.
They did win a few Emmy's for the costumes and makeup! I get what you're saying though. No one ever really hears about the talented people that work behind the scenes.
ReplyDeleteWOW! it's really amazing!
ReplyDeleteVery true...
ReplyDeleteAt least in the first 2 seasons Game of Thrones released those "artisan" behind-the-scenes videos with various production members all shown and mentioned by name. The crew deserves much of the recognition for the high quality level of the series!
Totally agree, the first season bluray also has a lot of behind the scenes features, To create this fantasy a lot of amazing work is done that we never really see! :)
ReplyDeleteWicked!
ReplyDeleteEverytime they realease a video like this... Set designs or locations or VFX this show just amazes me. They put in so much work crafting even the minute details.
