Blink - SpoilerTV CW pilot preview

Feb 15, 2013

Blink is a sad, sweet family drama about a family dealing with a comatose father.
The pilot takes place on his birthday most of the family has 'moved on' from him, only the daughter Ari spends significant time with him. We have some voiceovers/ imagination scenes from the father's POV. The protagonist Ari is very likable, and the show is basically a family soap which makes it different from most of the CW pilots which are more Sci-Fi, Futuristic, Military and Alien. Blink seems a likely pickup because it is the most compatible with whatever survives out of Hart of Dixie/Carrie Diaries/90210.

  1. I'm betting 90210 will end it's run in May. Hart of Dixie get's renewed for a 10-13 final season ala Gossip girl, and The Carrie Diaries will be held of as a mid season replacement for HOD. Blink will likely be a lead out for HOD and TCD or maybe even BATB

  2. If HOD got renewed for sure it will get the full season because it's getting close to syndication.

  3. I think Company Town being more likely to be picked up and being paired up with Hart of Dixie than this one to be honest. This one sounds too weird to work as a show.

  4. This show sounds more depressing than "weird" to me...

  5. Really doesn't sound like my kind of show. The premise is depressing.

  6. I know what you mean, but it is far from close to syndication. But if the CW is interested in it for syndication, they will renew HOD for half seasons, same with TCD to keep a short of YA power block. Nikita is the most likely show to get renewed if syndication is the factor.

  7. No one renews for half seasons if the goal is syndication, not unless you only need a half season to get syndicated. As it is they need 2 full seasons to get Hart of Dixie to the standard minimum for syndication after this season. No way they spend 4 years to do it. The CW might not even last that long. If it gets renewed it will be for the full time.

  8. What happens to the CW's shows assuming the network goes under? Do they all get cancelled? or would the CW shop its shows around hoping for some of them to continue?

  9. Due to the CW's terrible ratings the most likely scenario is that when the CW gets cancelled so do all its shows. If it is really close to syndication there is the possibility that CBS or Warner Brothers (whichever owns the show) could try to give it away to some station, likely cable, to get it syndication numbers but in all honesty that would be a long shot.

  10. I always associated CW's ratings to the fact that it's technically a new network that doesn't exactly reach a good number of people. Based of the ratings I see that maybe only 5 million people know of it's existence. Shame since it really has some really good shows this season

  11. The problem is that it has had almost 7 years to move in a forward direction and instead its ratings get worse every year. It's hard to inspire confidence that way. It doesn't have to beat the 4 main networks or even come close but it does have to show that it won't leave the affiliates crippled and starving for viewers if they want them to sign a long-term contract. I agree that the CW has some great shows. They always have. The problem came with hiring Dawn Ostroff and her niche-focused branding that thought teen girls would save the network. Obviously that failed and has now come back to bite the CW. They should have made the CW more like the WB, which had much better ratings, than UPN. Guess that's what they get for handing a new netlet over to UPN staff.
