Supernatural - Song-to-Scene - Round 4 - Poll

14 Jan 2013

Round 4 starts now. With only 8 left out of 64 song-to-scene choices, we are slowing working our way to the best song-to-scene. Every round will take one day from now on until the winner is crowned at 7:59 pm on Wednesday. Given that the new Supernatural episode will air at 8:00 pm the same day, that's perfect timing for a hiatus contest. Episodes that have reached round 4 include: Renegade, Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Back in Black, Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas, Wanted Dead or Alive (70%), Rock of Ages (53%), O Death (75%), and A Well-Respected Man (55%). Thanks to everyone who has participated so far. Happy voting!

  1. We are finally at the point in this contest where I think all of the contenders are excellent. I'll be good with any of them winning although I still have 3 favorites.

    1. Renegade - They are both excellent songs-to-scene, but renegade edges out Knockin' on Heaven's Door for me because of the editing. It's that pause in the song when we hear the heartbeats and Dean says, "We are so screwed." Then it kicks into gear and we are on the run again. This time against a more dedicated foe. This is one story line I wish they had kept for longer. I really like Knockin' on Heaven's Door because it is a great brother moment but as far as song-to-scene goes, I think Renegade is a bit more powerful. Still no matter which one wins it will deserve the title.

    2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas - This is probably the easiest poll of round 4 for me. I love that scene in Bloodlust with the Impala purring as Back in Black pounds down the highway. I remember it literally taking my breath away when I first saw it and how I squealed like a teen girl at a boy band concert when I saw Metallicar back in one piece, finally together with her boys. Man do I love this scene….but it still doesn't compare to Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas and the cornerstone of the brother bond that it represents. Maybe I'm nostalgic for the days before the brothers were fighting in ultra-contrived ways for no purpose whatsoever but this song with this scene makes my heart sing.

    3. I've gone back and forth on this one so many times. Coin toss, gut check - it's a tossup for me. So in true spirit of the contest I am going to go with my least favorite scene of the two that contains my least favorite song of the two (although that one is close) in by far my least favorite episode of the two. Rock of Ages it is. Every part of the lyrics fit for this one and it is a powerful scene in the episode. Plus there's no bad singing. 

    4. I really, really, really, really wanted to vote for A Well-Respected Man here, but there are some lyrics that just don't go and when you are against a nearly perfect song-to-scene match like O Death….well, you have to be perfect too.

  2. 1) not a difficult decision for me despite how much I like the Knockin' on Heaven's Door STS
    ....I pick Renegade

    2) Only the second time I can remember seeing an exact tie. But, because of the
....song-to-scene-to-me weight I have to pick Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas

    3) This one is a coin flip. ARGH! I want to pick both! But the coin landed on Rock of Ages

    4) O Death incredibly painful to have to choose but choose I did.

  3. On my personal list I think all of these are on my top ten list. I think Renegade and O Death are 1 & 2. I couldn't be as logical as you in selecting O Death over Well-Respected Man... O Death was just beautiful and perfect. :-D really really difficult round.

  4. I predict the final to be "Renegade" vs. "O Death".

  5. which would just make me cry. cause I love them both so much. But I think you're right.

  6. I would NOT bet against that. Unless there is a major upset, O Death will definitely represent its side of the bracket. Renegade has a little tougher competition but I think it will make it to the finals also.

  7. Depending on what wins the second poll today, round 5 will be the most difficult for me. For the finale I've already chosen my pick and why.

  8. I was tempted to coin flip #3 too. These are the days of hard choices.

  9. I had to choose Renegade.

I hated the second one. I had to choose Back in Black.

These are some of the toughest yet. I chose Rock of Ages, but I wish I could pick both.

I love both songs again. I went with O Death.

  10. I don't even want to think about which of the two to pick.

  11. Wow surprisingly easy for me.

    1. Renegade

    2. Back In Black

    3. Wanted Dead Or Alive

    4. O Death

  12. there's another round! eep!

  13. 4. Well-Respected Man is one of my favorite Kinks songs, so it was SO HARD to vote against it. But like you said, O Death is too perfect. The other song has lyrics that don't sync with the scene at all, but damnit, I waited ages for the Kinks to be played on this show.

  14. So many great choices.
Went with renegade, back in black, rock of ages and o' death

  15. Knockin' On Heaven's Door.
I think this song perfectlly fits both the scenes in which it was used and although I liked the scene with Renegade, I think this one is heavier and more intrinsic of the brother story.
    X
Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
A so moving song to scene. It probably won't win the poll but I'm going to vote it convinced anyway. It's just so full of brotherly goodness.
Black In Black is a great scene to song but in a tight contest between machine and brothers, the brothers win everytime.
    X
    Wanted Dead or Alive.

Again a brother scene with the song fitting in so well even to including the Impala."On a steel horse I ride." :)

    X
A Well-Respected Man. I loved the song to scene and I'll keep with it although there's no way O Death won't win here.

  16. I was thinking about the presence/absence of the Impala in all these choices:
    1. Baby is present during Renegade's scene as the brothers' refuge where they can finally take out their disguise. To get to her is really a relief for them and she is coming along (carrying them along) in this new stretch of their "newly screwed" lives. She was also ther in heaven, providing the fireworks... (I voted for Renegade)
    2. The Impala is the protagonist in Back in Black's scene, but of course the brothers are inside, for her to be so happy. But let's not forget that In the Christmas scene Baby is out there, receiving the new snow (symbol that the pagan gods' curse didn't exist anymore), and guarding her boys as she watches from the window, being nostalgicly happy for them, just as the viewer of the show. (Voted for Christmas' song-to-scene)
    3. Baby is "the steel horse I ride", sharing with her boys that terrible moment, while providing them with the confort of the song. And then, this steel horse, enters the Apocalypse scene as Dean, the self appointed ultimate Apocalypse horseman (with the four rings), boldly comes to try to put an end to the end-of-the-world fight of his two brothers. Of course the Impala has the most important role to play here (as Chuck states in Swan Song). (Voted for "Wanted", my favorite song-to-scene ever, together with the one I voted in poll 2).
    4. Baby is missing from this poll. But we know she is more important that Death's "steel horse", and of course a lot more integral to Dean's personality that the stupid car he is "riding" in 4.17. In both cases I would say she is kind of specially missed, specially in the last one. (I voted "A Well respected Man", I'm not particularly fond of the Death character, nor his entrance in the show nor of this song.)

  17. Renegade - because i think it fits better to the scene, and also the fact that i do not like Knockin' on Heaven's Door that much also helped me to decide this one;

    Back in Black - funny thing is that i was using the "vote for the underdog" tactic, but ended up being completely wrong! Apparently "Back in Black" is winning, and that is a pleasant surprise to me, although i would have been happy with the other one winning too;

Wanted Dead or Alive - again a close call, but in my opinion it is a better fit to the scene, and i do not mind the singing :)

O Death - just cannot vote against it, however strong the opposing contender would be. Sad for A Well-Respected Man though, but overall happy with the high quality of contenders at this late stage of the contest.

  18. I think i know your pick for the finale and the reason why ;)

  19. Super hard today..Renegade for me, but I really, really wanted to vote for Heaven's Door, love that scene.

I never look to see who is winning so I won't be swayed and surprise the one I thought would be ahead and the one I voted for is not winning. Have Yourself A Very Merry Little Christmas. I LOVE Baby, but come on. ;)

I loved Wanted Dead or Alive and the guys singing and Deans look of terror, but voted for Rock of Ages, perfect song for my favorite ep.

The only easy one is O Death.

  20. With any luck we will get more Kinks in the next couple of seasons. I really wanted to vote for A Well-Respected Man too.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I am shocked that Back in Black is winning too. For me it is the weakest one left in the contest. I love it, but in all honesty, it does boil down to another driving scene so I couldn't choose it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. If the results stay the way they are, this will be the most shocking round in terms of winners for me. Not what I expected in 2 polls.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Today is hardest polls to choise, but finally i decide how i vote:
    1. Renegade. Because this song-to-scene left to bigger impresion to me and it;s a little more powerful.
    2. Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas because of the atmosfere creates.
    3. Wanted Dead or Alive. I like more and affected me more.
    4. O Death. Like both, but O Death is perfect.
