Supernatural - Song-to-Scene - 2A - Poll
8 Jan 2013
Polls SupernaturalWe're on to round 2 and some fantastic songs-to-scene are still in the running, including Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas which I left out yesterday. Thanks Maria Vegas for catching that. Joining the round are Eye of the Tiger (66%), The Gambler (68%), Bad Company (66%), and A Well-Respected Man with the day's high of 77%. I have a feeling this will be the last easy set for me, since there are only two polls where there isn't a clear winner for me in all of round 2.
Below is a link to the contest basics. If you are just joining the contest, please read it. This is not a favorites contest like most of our polls. This one is based more on logic than emotion and sometimes you may be voting for songs and/or scenes you don't particularly care for but which make a great song-to-scene match anyway. We are looking at the lyrics and tone of the song matching what is going on in a specific scene. To help, there are links below to every scene in today's polls. Happy voting!

1) Renegade Kinda of bummed that Man in the Wilderness came up against
ReplyDelete....this one so soon.
2) Silent Lucidity I know where I stand on this but I just love this one.
3) Bad Moon Rising Don't look back in this instance isn't tied to a scene.
4) Gotta go against the grain and pick Spirit in the Sky When replaying them...Nope
....No wait. Just looked again Knockin' on Heaven's Door
I am so pleased to see you admit that you want to pick both. It's not just me. mwahahaha (you realize you could have cheated and put this up against one of the ones you hated and we wouldn't be in this pickle so soon. :-) I know. Your integrity is a good thing. Darn it.
ReplyDeleteAll Out of Love can not win against Silent Lucidity. I still don't get the point of the All Out of Love scene. The Silent Lucidity scene had me bawling.
ReplyDeleteThere's something at buzz.spoilertv.com.
ReplyDeleteI don't get it either. Quite frankly I was shocked when I clicked on it. It's not really even about that scene but about how All Out of Love never should have made it this far to begin with. Maybe as a favorite scene sure but not as a song-to-scene.
ReplyDeleteI have been tempted, believe me, but I just can't fudge those rankings to make the contest more balanced. I would be a terrible criminal. :-P Alas, I am resigned to have plenty of more polls in which I want to vote for both.
ReplyDeleteYou and me both about Man in the Wilderness. Such a shame that it is out and All Out of Love seems destined to move on.
ReplyDelete1. Man Of The Wilderness - because I know Renegade will win and I'm sad they went up against each other this early
ReplyDelete2. Silent Lucidity - Why is it not leading????
3. Bad Moon Rising
4. Knockin On Heaven's Door
OMG! :D
ReplyDeleteUgh. Picked four who are in second place.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I'm not a great fan of the episode, the ending scene was terrific so Renegade takes it.
ReplyDeleteSilent Lucidity, because they could have used any other song in place of All Out Of Love.
Bad Moon Rising. This could be a contest winner for me.
Knockin' On Heaven's Door. This too is a potential winner but there are still many great Song/Scenes left in the competition. :)
Man in the Wilderness - using the "vote for the underdog" tactic, because i think they should both advance;
ReplyDeleteSilent Lucidity - no question here, a far better song to scene example, even though All Out of Love scene is quite funny;
Bad Moon Rising - again a better contender, and by a long way, in my opinion;
Knockin' on Heaven's Door - even though i personally do not like this song, but it fits to the scene very well, and that is what we need to vote here for.
Only had to think about the first one, I loved Man in the Wilderness, but went with Renegade, it is just to perfect for scene
ReplyDeleteAll Out of Love because I feel he is singing about Baby.
Bad Moon Rising
Knockin' on Heaven's Door I could also have voted for it in Houses of the Holy, it was a good fit in both eps.
BTW, Jensen and Danneel will be having another SUPERNATURAL baby.

It is a song to scene when you feel as I do that he is singing about losing his Baby..I'm all out of love, so lost without you. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteWonder why it was not posted on the SPN link? I don't have time to read all these other pages, but check this one several times a day.
ReplyDelete@rehabber:disqus We don't post things like Births, Marriages, Gossip, Pregnancies etc here at the main site. That is what the Buzz site is for. You can follow the buzz site on Twitter or RSS or simply visit it now and again.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, here, rehabber, i see the All Out of Love scene as a perfect song to scene combination. Dean's love for his Baby is a really funny and endearing recurrent motive in the show. For instance I understand "Mannequin 3: The Reckoning" (6.14) as a Valentine's themed episode where (of course, being Supernatural) the love relationship goes terribly wrong (as in 4.14 or 5.14), not only for the episode's victims but also for significant Winchester's relationships. In 6.14 there is a Dean-Lisa problem and then a big Dean-Baby problem at the end: because of the ghost, Baby attacks Dean and Dean has to get it to crash, probably one of the most heartbreaking moments in their relationship, as is this one in 7.6.
ReplyDeleteI am glad I am not the only one that sees this relationship, I have the same with my truck. lol
ReplyDelete1. Renegade--I think both options were great song-to-scene picks. Renegade got bonus points for how they edited it into the scene and the cut back to the crescendo, for foreshadowing, and because I like the song better (sorry) so it enhanced the scene more (for me).
ReplyDelete2. Silent Lucidity--I don't really like the song, but it fits the scene. Whereas I guilty pleasure All Out Love, but I can't vote for it just because it is a Dean sing-along song (people really seem to love those though). He is funny. But I think it's reaching to say it goes with the scene lyric-wise.
3. Bad Moon Rising--So hard to vote against CCR and Don't Look Back didn't exactly give it a run for it's money. The thought is there. It's just too brief to really put up a fight.
4. Knockin' On Heaven's Door--I'm a sap. I voted for the pure sentimentality of the scene, the idea of what heaven is, and the choral oo's. It fit, it set the mood, and helped the scene hit home (hard).
I think maybe Man in the Wilderness was hurt by how new it is. Like, it hasn't had time to take root in our SPN consciousness yet and be one of those great "remember when" songs. Maybe if you do it again next year, it will get more nomination votes and have a better seed.
ReplyDelete1. Both! I chose vote for Man in the Wilderness, because i know that Renegade will win.
ReplyDelete2. Silent Lucidity, fits far better.
3. Bad Moon Rising because i can't imagine that scene without this song.
4. Knockin' on Heaven's Door - perfect song for the scene.
That could definitely be. Plus the description doesn't sound like it would fit given the scene is just Dean walking. I have no doubt that 10 years after Supernatural is finished people will respect this song-to-scene choice for the perfection that it is.
ReplyDeleteStill could be replaced with many songs, even if you think of it as an ode to Baby. Just add one of a million "my romance ended and I miss you so bad" songs. Like:
ReplyDeleteTell me how am supposed to live without you
Now that I've been lovin' you so long
How am I supposed to live without you
How am I supposed to carry on
No idea on Silent Lucidity and agreed on missing Man in the Wilderness so soon. If it's any solace, Silent Lucidity would have faced Renegade next round and if either Silent Lucidity or All Out of Love beat Renegade this contest will be a complete sham and travesty.
ReplyDeleteWelcome to my usual world in these polls. Quite frankly, my votes have never aligned more to the winners than they have in this one. That will of course change right about round 3.
ReplyDeleteI've got a top 5 in this contest so if it comes down to them, I am screwed in voting. At first I thought my top pick was solid but since watching the video clips I'm not quite as sure anymore. There are some excellent song-to-scene choices on Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of Knockin' on Heaven's Door myself or Bob Dylan for that matter. Still the more times I see this scene the more I am impressed with it. If it comes down between Renegade and Knockin' on Heaven's Door, I am going to have to do some deep soul searching to vote.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't impressed by Knockin' on Heaven's Door in Houses of the Holy, I think mostly because I don't like the song. However having it play during the firework scene really enhanced that scene for me. Not sure why. I only know that this is the scene that saves the episode for me and keeps it from being in my bottom 10.
ReplyDeleteHa! Love how you put your reason for #3. It really did not put up a fight.
ReplyDeleteRenegade also got bonus points from me for the masterful editing. That may be what carries it into the winner's circle over other equally good song-to-scene fits.
I too have trouble separating Bad Moon Rising from that scene. It shocked me so much when I first saw it that it was immediately embedded in my brain - this song = horrible car crash. To be honest, no other song-to-scene in any other show got such a visceral reaction from me.
ReplyDeleteFunny, this ep is in my top 10. Love how we see eps so differently.
