  1. Sounds like a lot to deal with in 42 minutes.

  2. So Prometheus a titan needs Sam and Dean's help against Zeus a god?
Wow if that isnt the most far fetched scenario I've ever heard in regards to SPN I dont know what is?!
Having said that it does seem quite interesting, seems like we are getting a lot of stand alone sounding episodes from 11-16?

  3. What I've been waiting for since they introduced the pagan gods. Some 'American Gods' shit. I hope Prometheus comes back for another episode.

  4. We know we won't be seeing Cas from 8x11-8x15, I thought he was going to be in 8x16, but it doesn't look like it, judging from the spoilers...? And with episode 8x17 entitled Goodbye Stranger, it really makes me worried :/ (lobotomy!theory scared me too much!)

  5. I've always hated the "one-hit, one-kill bosses. If it weren't bad enough they mowed down the Four Horsemen like a junior high school gang and wasted Osiris rather easily, now more gods. In one episode?

    ReplyDelete
  6. I love it when the episode has greek elements. <3

    ReplyDelete
  7. Don't worry, Cas will always be back a few episodes later without remembering anything.

    ReplyDelete
  8. But what about Cas?

    ReplyDelete
  9. sorry but you cant really tell from small snipets whether he will be in an episode or not, he tends to pop up quite randomly all over the season so I wouldnt count him out of any episode unless it is specifically mentioned that he will not be in it. Not only that but didnt Misha asked for a lighter load due to the birth of his daughter? I'm sure he'll featue more heavily towards the end of the season as is always the case.

  10. You can sort of see why they dont have characters like these in more than one episode though, I mean why would Sam and Dean need to do anything with all their super powerful friends always ready to pop up at any given moment?

    ReplyDelete
  11. And now Sam and Dean find out the way to kill Zeus?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I know, Misha said in an interview that there are 5 consecutive episodes after 8x10, in which he won't appear, but as this one is 6th I expected him to be in it... But it's monster of the week kinda type, so my guess is he won't be in it either, because I don't think he's still into that idea of becoming a hunter...

  13. Wow, hopefully they'll refrain from the amnesia/crazy storyline again. It's getting kind of tiring.

  14. These gods have always been depicted as terribly weak on the show, usually much weaker than the angels.

The writers always use the theory that as these gods no longer have worshippers they have become weaker but honestly I find these one-off god stories awkward and not really in line with what Sam and Dean do, that is hunt werewolves, demons, wendingos and such.
However if it turns out to be a good episode, fair enough but if Zeus himself gets taken out, I hope he gets a spectacular death at least!

  15. Olympian Gods =/= Titans! And yes I'm greek and fully excited for this :))

    ReplyDelete
  16. Just hoping to see Cas! I really love his character and I don't like what I've seen so far.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Osiris wasn't killed just put to sleep. And the pagan gods here aren't more powerful that angels and such.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Greek mythology is boring to me, especially the way SPN has chosen in the past to represent it. To me, it oesn't come across as well as the demons, angels and monsters do, where there is a sense of mystery & possibility. Greek/Roman myths are too detailed, period bound for my taste..
Is it me or are there mega amounts of fillers this year? Except for 1 or 2, I can't see any mytharc based eps this second half. And the fillers don't contain relevant mytharc connections either.

    ReplyDelete
  19. At SDCC Carver gave me the impression we'd go back to emphasizing the main mytharcs again, but this year, we barely had any Crowley/ Word references at all. It's extremely disappointing.
Hell, we'll have seen Don more than Crowley soon .

    ReplyDelete
  20. So does Dan Loflin have a middle schooler? This seems like Percy Jackson stuff. I thought we were dealing with a quest this season.

    ReplyDelete
  21. It does seem like gods aren't what they used to be. They take them down like practice targets before going after bigger game.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I agree 100% about super powerful friends making ti so Dean and Sam don't have to do anything. Still, the way gods are portrayed these days I think vampires and wendigos have more power.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Magic amnesia - the go to story line in all genre shows these days. Grimm, Supernatural, Fringe (whole new timeline there).....urgh!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I am also disappointed we have let go of that premise so far. It was the most interesting aspect of the SDCC spoilers to me. In fact, for all the fans complaining about the Leviathans last year, I am shocked that people have not roasted Jeremy Carver for completely stalling the season's mytharc so far. Major double standard.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Greek Gods and Titans. I do enjoy stuff like this, but with SPN's past with Gods, I worry if I'll really enjoy it or not. :I

    ReplyDelete
  26. The first thing I thought was Percy Jackson too. I love those books. I highly recommended them to both elementary and middle school students as a librarian. I'm just not as excited with Supernatural's foray into mythology in the past.

    ReplyDelete
  27. It's the exact thing people were harping on last year. It baffles me why people are so tolerant of Jeremy Carver doing this when all Sera Gamble got was hate from the fandom. They both started off with an out-of-character Sam, although there was a reason for RoboSam. They both have subjugated the mytharc and used fillers that don't go anywhere. They both have used secondary characters to save the day too often and they both have season-long pacing problems. So if they have both done the same thing, why was there such a backlash against Sera while people are basically mute about Jeremy?

    ReplyDelete
  28. You know I can't stand Dabb and Loflin as a writing team, but now I'm worried those were the good old days. Now that they are separated we are getting much more of them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I can't speak for everyone, but my intolerance of Sera had A LOT to do with me finding her a very inconsistent and weak writer generally. Jeremy hasn't let me down in the same way as a writer so I have more patience with him and faith that eventually things will come together.

Sera always, ALWAYS dragged storylines to redundancy, gave quick half ass resolutions and an AWESOME brother moments to sugar coat the pill and cover up the mistakes. She did it in all her episodes as a solo writer (she didn't do it in S1 and half of S2 when she was writing with Raelle. And from her solo eppies I will point out JIB as the exception to the rule, even though that episode too has some minor pacing and resolution problems...) And those were trends she applied to her seasons...

Jeremy's writing has always been more tight, linear and consistent. And for that he has earned some patience from me to wait until the end of the season before I can say he's not going anywhere.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Being Greek and a bit of Greek mythology buff I am bias and weary, but as all things SPN I'll wait and see and go in hoping for the best....

    ReplyDelete
  31. Okay. It does make sense that if you like Jeremy Carver better as a writer, you would be more patient with him now. Personally I found them both to be inconsistent. Although I like more episodes that Sera has written, some of the ones I don't like I thoroughly despise. Of course there are some I truly don't like of Jeremy's too. I wonder why people who do praise Sera as a writer and loathe her as a showrunner (which I have seen a lot of in this fandom), aren't blasting Jeremy then?

One more question if you don't mind, what do you make of the fact that Jeremy Carver has only written one episode so far and did not write either the midseason finale or midseason premiere? As far as I know, we haven't heard of him writing anything else either.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll agree that is somewhat odd... Maybe he's focusing more on keeping tabs on the season overall, and doing more re-writes on each script than working on specific episodes... if he doesn't write the season finale I will be absolutely surprised though.

    ReplyDelete
  33. If that's the case, he needs to be standing in the writers' room every moment and the rewrites need to be rewritten. I do think he will do the season finale. No way Kripke will be back to do it and I can't see him handing off such an important episode.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I agree about the double standards.

Although I enjoyed Sera Gamble's work, I was quite happy when I knew Carver was taking over for all I had to judge him on was AVSC etc, but now that I have seen what a total mess this season is, I think he deserves far more criticism than what he's had so far and I can't understand all the gushing that goes on about him.

Even those who are enjoying the episdes can't be one hunded percent happy with every single thing we have seen so far.
I'm getting to the stage were I even feel nostalgia for Becky and Chuck and I dislike both intensely!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Of course the pagan Gods shown in Supernatural aren't as strong as legends show them.

It was explained way back in Season 3: diminishing lines of worshipers and sacrifices results in power loss for the pagan gods.

But since this was told in an episode Jeremy Carver wrote no surprise you forgot about that, since you come across like you hate the man with all your heart.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Just snippets, but very interesting snippets, can't wait for the episode. Greek Gods and Titans Supernatural style, should be interesting.

After two meek seasons Supernatural is really exciting again. I know I really enjoy season 8 so far.

    ReplyDelete
  37. It's not forgotten but I think it is a very lame and weak explanation. I would rather the show at least pretend the gods are powerful instead of being taken out by a ram's horn, which wouldn't have been that hard to find in ancient Egypt when the god should have been at full strength if we go by that lame theory. There is diminished power and there is pathetic antagonists and the god episodes have fallen into the latter. Quite frankly I'm surprised they can do anything at all given how easily they are taken out.

I do not hate Jeremy Carver but I think he has proven to be a bad show runner so far in that he has dumped 7 years of Supernatural foundation because he wanted to do his own thing. I find that the height of arrogance on his part. I also have issues with the fact that Jeremy seems to be getting a pass on the same things that Sera got abusively nailed for. There is much I liked about Jeremy's writing, especially with A Very SPN Christmas, Mystery Spot, Changing Channels, and Death Takes a Holiday. However I think his vision for Supernatural now sucks and I wish he would fix the brother rift. It's pointless and contrived so far. He also needs to step up the pace in the mytharc.

  38. If what is happening is makes me decide to stop watching NOW, I won't care what happens in episode 23. It's not a crystal ball issue. It's the exact opposite. I'm holding on in hope that the future episodes will make me happier, not because I am predicting they will keep the status quo or make me feel worse. JEEZE! Some people are really unhappy with the story NOW.

    ReplyDelete
  39. :)
Really I don't get why someone would stick with a show that no longer make them happy.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Which episode was that?

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm pretty anti-Carver. And I was pretty anti-Sera, but in hindsight I'm starting to consider that it could be worse. Not even RoboSam lasted this long without an explanation, and then you had to give her that she had a decent idea it just wasn't executed with enough forethought to alert the audience of what was going on. I could have forgiven a lot if she'd then had an okay big bad and stopped killing beloved characters (and taking away Baby and aliases, etc). I honestly don't know why people aren't angrier at Carver because he is definitely on my s**t list. We don't even have a bad guy yet and we're half-way through!!! All we've done is find and lose Kevin and the tablet a couple of times. Worst Quest Ever.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I guess you can try to wedge it into the storyline. In the Western classical tradition,
Prometheus became a figure who represented human striving, particularly
the quest for scientific knowledge, and the risk of overreaching or
unintended consequences. In particular, he was regarded in the Romantic era as embodying the lone genius whose efforts to improve human existence could also result in tragedy. (Thanks to Wikipedia) Maybe he comes along to offer the boys help in exchange for theirs.

And Green Lantern will be appearing in a multi-episode story arc.

  43. A Very Supernatural Christmas.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Bwah! I does seem more like a game of hide and seek than an actual quest. My prediction: we will sporadically hear about the quest throughout the remaining episodes. Midway through we will have an episode that actually focuses on the quest but the next several episodes will not follow up on it. 4 episodes before the end we will find some major, magic cure-all that gets the quest in gear. We will be overwhelmed by a mass of quest-related and non-quest related information for two episodes. Then the season long quest will be jam packed into 32 minutes of action allowing 5 minutes for the big emotional climax of whatever the current emotional problem is. We'll get 3 minutes for the ending chat/motivational speech and 2 minutes that puts us into the big cliffhanger that will supposedly "define" what the next season's quest will be. Or at least 5 episodes of it.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Erg. I hate it when shows spend an entire season talking about maybe having a season-long point and then try and cram everything into 2 episodes that are out of balance and filled with holes. "Oh the bad guy--He's coming. Promise he's coming. Aren't you scared? Cause he's coming. Big bad guy, yep, he's coming...He's HERE! He's lame. And end." Your expectations for the "action" of the season are just too high to ever fulfill at that point. I do think the "Raider's of the Lost Ark" quest plan intrigued a lot of people and I think Carver is still riding on that good will/optimism. But really the brother fighting and show rewriting and the fandom baiting has to stop IMO.

  46. you people are wrong....
    pagans are really powerful......

in season 3 i was mentioned....
pagans got their power from their worshipper......
they even get more powerful if their worshipper sacrifice their life(s) for the pagan(s)....

imagine if 7 billion humans worship ganesha(the pagans who were killed easily by lucifer back in season 5)............

i bet that ganesha will easily win........

don't you guys hear they way they debate about angels(5x19)....
is like their talking about angels as if they were such a weak creature......

it probably because, back in the past(when they still have a lot of worshipper)...
    they could easily beat angels................
