Stats Spotlight - NCIS passes 22 million viewers for the third time in series history

It's fair to say that NCIS has been on a pretty good roll lately.

I wasn't expecting NCIS to break the 21 million viewer mark last night, because the latest mini-arc of Ziva's father being killed had come to a close two weeks ago when the last episode aired. But I was proven very wrong indeed to find out from today's final ratings that last night's episode had earned a 3.8 rating, and a whopping 22.07 million viewers.

It's pretty well known now that the last episode of NCIS on January 15 broke the series record for the most watched episode albeit by only 10,000 viewers, with 22.86 million viewers tuning in. That was also the second time in series history that 22 million or more had tuned into an episode. Last night's episode became the third episode in series history to break the 22 million viewer mark.

This season is so far averaging a 3.45 rating and 19.31 million viewers from 13 episodes to date. Though last season averaged a 3.75 rating - 0.3 more than this season - this season is averaging slightly more viewers than last season's 19.23 million viewers. It's still rather early days yet with 11 episodes left of this season, but there's certainly a zero percent chance of the show getting canceled by CBS due to lack of ratings or viewers!

  1. Yet another show I enjoy is on the chopping block. Maybe we'll get lucky and have a shortened 11th season to wrap things up. I swear, people don't know a good show when they see one.

  2. I can't get through episodes anymore. Way too boring. I love the cast but the writing/stories...ugh.

  4. I thought the sarcasm was pretty clear. Maybe I should have added a winking emote at the end.

  5. Normally I'd play devil's advocate and mention that sarcasm is always a crap shoot on the internet but this was pretty damn obvious.

  6. I don't know why CBS don't just renew it today. It's gonna happen in 6 weeks anyway, might as well jump the gun..

  7. The only reason I can think of is that the cast might be coming to the end of, say, a second 5 year contract period (the first being the first 5 years of the show). But if CSI is any indication, it's that a show can still continue to do fine well past the decade mark

  8. I'm really proud of this show! I started watching in season 6 or something and it's still fantastic!
