Sarah Michelle Gellar may be back on the small screen next fall as the star of a new half-hour comedy, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The potential (and currently untitled) series, which is being developed at 20th Century Fox TV (home of Buffy the Vampire Slayer), chronicles the hijinks parents get into while their kids are at home.

Gellar would play the wife/mother.

  1. Hope it works out better than Ringer.

  2. It sounds better than Ringer, tbh. I'll watch it for SMG if it gets picked up.

  3. ...But I've never found Sarah funny.

  4. I think she would be better in some action role.

  6. Stop playing around and just do a Buffy sequel already.

  7. Somehow, I think Gellar actively avoids any project that would draw the slightest comparison to Buffy. Besides making a few horror films since Buffy ended, she has stayed clear of all sci-fi, action, and genre projects.

  8. Love SMG so will watch and hope it's good.

  9. I'm sure a network will buy this one but then it still might not make it to the series stage. In all honesty it sounds like a bit of a long shot.

  10. Oh, wel... she's hilarious, always has been but... leading a sitcom? I think anything would be better than that. And I don't know if it's just because I'm a Buffy/Joss fanboy, but all the "avoiding anything similar to Buffy" is getting too much. But if not Buffy-like roles, I'd love her to do anything like Ringer or The Air I Breathe or Veronika Decides To Die... but a comedy... I can just wish her luck.

  11. I'm not 100% sold on her comedic timing, but it could be fun... and I'm mostly saying this because MaW was actually quite funny...

  12. SMG is good at some comedy. Generally when she made me laugh it's been dark humor and based on the fact that it was Buffy and that she was uneven, it could possibly have been the directors. I wish her well and I *hope* she's sitcom funny but I just don't see it... also it would be cringeworthy if this is multi-camera, having an audience laugh at her when she's not even being funny.

  15. "It was taquitos"

  16. She marries Spike. He's alive again (don't ask). Their kids are half-vampire, half-slayer. Hijinks ensue.

  17. Sounds rather formulaic, but with these things is all about the creative team behind.

It does give me a "Up All Night" vibe, but with no baby. It could tickle my fancy.

  18. Easy to mix up with Kakistos.

  19. I will give anything she's in a 3 episode try just for nostalgia but in all honesty comedies rarely work for me. Only Community, Go On, and Big Bang Theory repeats get my attention these days on the comedy front. I'll get caught up with Raising Hope over the summer.

  20. NGL, I would watch the hell out of that show.

  21. Definitely will give this a look because of SMG, but will be interesting to find out more. It will be interesting to see how well she can take to ensemble comedy... it worked out well for Allison Hannigan (Willow), so the chosen one might be ok...

  23. With a funny script, you may do.

  24. She great as the straight person when it comes to comedy, she's gonna need a funny guy as the husband in this for it to work imo.

  25. I think this news ends with any expectation of her as the mother :(

  26. This is carefully described as a "comedy" but not a "sitcom". Is there a difference?

All I can say is that with a good writing team and a canned laughter track ANYONE can be funny. How else did Jennifer and Courtney pull it off for all those years?
