NBC is taking a few episodes back from its freshman dramas "Deception" and "Revolution."
"We had an original order for 13," "Deception" executive producer Gail Berman told me after the show's panel at the TCA Winter Press Tour. "It was cut back to 11 because Bob [Greenblatt] did what I thought was an incredibly ingenious move: they put it on so [it] would have no interruptions. So it's 11 in a row. They couldn't fit 13 in a row."
As for "Revolution," Greenblatt made an off-handed remark during the executive session to "the last 10 episodes" of the season left to air. Said number would put the season total at 20 episodes, two shy of the traditional full 22-episode season order. A spokesperson subsequently confirmed to me that there are indeed 10 episodes left to air.

Could be worse, but 20 is fine for Revolution.

ReplyDeleteI am shocked that they are only doing 20 episodes of Revolution considering it is a ratings hit for NBC.
ReplyDeletePerhaps they aren't as optimistic about the end of the season's ratings... we'll have to see.
ReplyDeleteThis is why NBC kills to many of there shows without trying. Revolution is one of the best shows they've had in ratings and there trying to kill it.

ReplyDeleteI don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. Both are the types of shows that could benefit from shorter seasons thus resorting to tighter storytelling...
ReplyDeleteMakes sense to me 11 back to back weeks of Deception and then 10 weeks straight of Revolution which will agin have its generous lead in in The Voice, but no doubt there will be an endless stream of fans complaining. Even if Revolutions ratings dip a little its still likely to be NBC's highest rated scripted show of the season and its will still be renewed. Besides if a show bombs in the ratings its down to lack of public interest, fans know Revolution will be back in March if they chose not to tune in then they cant complain about low ratings and subsequent cancellations afterwards.
ReplyDeleteI think Revolution will do just fine upon return. Hopefully Deception does well and gets a season 2 with a full season order so maybe NBC can start to drop some of their dead weight.
It's npt that bad news, many shows have to many ep's, a series Revolution coud new shorter seasons, it means less filler episodes..

ReplyDeleteThis a really good thing for Revolution, people!!! A show like that, a serialized one, if it's given a long season, it tends to produce to many bad sub plots just to fill the episode order.
ReplyDeleteShows like these should have 12 episodes max. That way you don't have silly plots and all can be writen properly.
Leave the 22 episodes orders to shows like csi, castle, h5o, ncis, etc... Shows in which doesn't matter if you missed one episode... Rev is doomed if it's give a full 22 episode second season unless the writers are top notch... Which i think it's not the case 'cause some people alrwady said to me that the story is starting to slow.down a lot give the back episode order.

ReplyDeletePerhaps, but I think it might be a scheduling thing... Deception is in Revolution's slot for a while...I don't know where it's moving to when Revolution comes, back, but also they may need more time to air Deception if it does well...
ReplyDeleteHave to agree. They did this for Smash to coincide with The Voice. I think straight episodes shows that the network has confidence in the shows as opposed to wanting to "kill" them. You know a network has confidence when it decides to air a full season back-to-back with no breaks and it will definitely help to keep stable ratings.
