this is only cause it was the only scripted show other then spartacus on last night it will go back down next week to the same poor numbers it usually gets this is a 1 time thing only cause there where lucky enough to have no competition
well i'm hoping syndication will help it get a 4th and final season i hope season 4 is the last i don't see much longivity past this season tbh both ratings and story wise
actually it still probaly won't this week was a fluke it lucky cause it had no competition that will always boost a shows ratings so don't get your hopes up it will go back down next week
Yeah, the important thing is that the writers know in advance the show is heading to a finish and wrap up the story in a satisfying way. In fact, the horrible ratings are sort of a blessing in disguise in that sense, because we know Nikita won't overstay its welcome. I'd hate for it to become Supernatural, which in my opinion jumped the shark 3 years ago; what it's become now ruins my good memories of the early years.
Nikita will get renewed next year not because of its dismal ratings but because it can be sold in syndication in Asia with 88 episodes. It's likely getting another year, but who knows if those episodes will air in the fall, midseason, or summer. I vote for summer. It might actually see a rise in ratings if they did.
I wouldn't be so quick to say that cable plays by different rules considering Jersey Shore was a ratings hit for awhile and Honey Boo Boo is doing very well. Also "quality" is very much in the mind of the beholder. :-)
Nobody here is being a Nikita hater. The show is going to get a season 4 not because you believe in the show but because the WB believes in its chances for Asian syndication. This comment is also a perfect example of why so many people online can't stand the Nikita fandom and in some cases won't try the show because of them. You'd be better off commenting on why other people should try Nikita. That might do some actual good.
I understand where you're coming from, but there's an incredible amount of senseless hate for Nikita on TVBTN, never referring to the content of the show but only its ratings. I'm not talking about civil comments like "Nikita's ratings are really low, I can see it getting cancelled" but immature spiteful ones like "haha, Nikita is such a flop, these ratings SUCK!". To be fair, yes, people do it to other low-rated shows like Fringe, and I believe it's just as stupid and annoying no matter the show. Especially since the networks know a lot more about their business than we do and if they aren't cancelling a show, it must be profitable somehow other than live ratings. I won't deny that there are Nikita fans who are just as immature and offensive, and spin things to make it seem like the show's performance is better than it is. However, I genuinely believe that sometimes fans lash out because they're tired of reading pointless hate for their show. If people were criticizing Nikita's quality, that'd be one thing, but I can't understand the hate based on numbers.
People should simply stop visiting TVBTV. It's the cesspool of comments and commentators. The owner encourage fans to fight and there is no moderation.
They do it for the page hits and advertising revenue.
I really don't understand why people visit that site to be honest.
Which is why that comment was something I would expect to be posted on TVbtN and NOT on SpoilerTV. They are completely opposite websites and I don't see why people should comment on what happens over there on this site. Immature comments from all fandoms is expected over there. Over here it's just rude and obnoxious.
True, but going strictly by ratings, basically the entire network except TVD, SPN and maybe 9O21O should have gotten the axe. The CW is obviously working with a somewhat different business model. Hart of Dixie, for example, is said to perform well on Hulu and that must have contributed to its renewal, because 0.6 on Monday wasn't great.
I still believe the entire network is going to get the ax but that's a couple of years away. No, a netlet, especially with the CW's budget, cannot afford to get rid of everything that isn't working and replace it. Still Nikita was its lowest rated full season show and it got renewed. That doesn't happen very often. This year it will happen again. People who feel like their favorite shows got shafted while a lower rated show got renewed sometimes take these things personally. I am surprised by how many people haven't gotten over it yet but I can see why they would not be happy about Nikita because of it.
You will allow me to defend HoD for actually performing rather decently last season by broadcasting standards too. It steadily grew and plateaued at an acceptable for the network ratings level, which it managed to maintain throughout the year. Considering it's lead in and the minimal promotion the show got, that it managed to hold its own credited it a second season (the show's online performance simply added to that).
And the show is doing the exact same this year, which is why I'm fairly confident it will get renewed for a S3.
Good points. The owners themselves are actually rude and offensive to people who comment all the time. I really *should* stop going there, it's not like it takes long to post the ratings here.
I concede the point, but that's the thing, remaining steady at 0.6 (with the mitigating circumstances of a weak lead-in and minimal promotion) was considered success because that's the current state of The CW. The bar is that low. And I don't think Nikita was performing considerably worse than its competitors for renewal, which were TSC, HoD and Ringer. Ringer, if I'm not mistaken, actually dropped to 0.4 which puts it on par with Nikita, and it wasn't on Friday. TSC dropped all the way from 1.3 to 0.6, and even 0.5 once. And HoD dropped to 0.6 in the spring. So considering Nikita was on Friday, I just can't see its renewal *over* TSC and Ringer as shocking, even if its ratings, viewed in isolation, were horrible. One can't measure the "Friday Factor" accurately, but I believe getting only 0.1 or 0.2 lower than the network's Mon-Thurs shows is acceptable. Anyway, yeah, I believe HoD will get a third season. It's cheap to produce and manages to remain steady.
I think the main problem with TSC and Ringer last year was that those were the two shows the network was putting their money on. They backed those shows, promoted them, gave them the "star/name actor" power, gave them the sweet lead in spots, and neither delivered or remotely lived up. In contrast, HoD was the little show that could.
Expectations that are put on shows need to pay off.
I do believe when Nikita started three years ago, it was expected to perform better and it has, which is why it's been struggling from the get go.
BUT (and here is the big but) it does have a steady loyal audience that will follow it whenever, wherever. And okay unlike SPN it's not a big enough audience, but it is there. I guess my point is that you are right, it's not doing THAT much worse than the average CW show. However, to be completely honest, it is the lowest of the low end of what is expected from a CW show.
My belief of Nikita is that the network knows this fact very well and considers it a utility player. If they can't find a show that can do better they will not sacrifice a show they can depend will do this much (as little as it may be).
i love coming to this site for that reason among many others. you guys do a great job of keeping things civil and fun here. thanks for all you do. keep up the good work.
Honestly I stopped vistiting TVBTN when STVPlus Ratings charts and tables where added that's what I use to get my ratings data now :) it's not just Nikita but any show that flops TVBTN insults the show they did that with OUAT and Revenge ratings last week I've just gotten so tired of fan wars over there so I stopped visiting the site
If you're talking the Cancellation Bear, then it says a fourth and final season is likely due to syndication. There hasn't been talk at all about a fifth season from the bear at all. In fact, it would probably laugh at the idea of a fifth.
What I find rediculous is how you're accusing the entire fandom of acting a certain way thus the reason for its low ratings. Granted like Alex said, they're a few crazies in every fandom. Heck I know quite a few from Supernatural but that doesn't mean new fans shouldn't check out the show right?
At one point, it all gets to the point where it's enough and there's only so much a fan can take before they become defensive of their show. Ask any Supernatural fan that and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I agree! The trolling is out of control there, and the owner is a jerk. I'm glad I don't visit it anymore. The commentators are rude to everyone. As a TSC and a Nikita fan, I felt terrible reading their comments. And I don't understand why some people get so worked up hating and defending their show's ratings. Many times, great shows have low ratings.
Oh well I wasn't accusing anyone on this site at all for attacking Nikita. If anything, this site is not only respectful to Nikits but to every other show despite its ratings and/or quality and that's the reason I'm moved here as well. I don't go on tvby at all.
I hate to bring "that site" up again but I was jut referring to Alex's comment on tvby.
The same way you think Supernatural or other shows are great tv shows, Nikita fans will think the same of their show. I mean what's so wrong about that? Oh and as to your comment on how the "overall fandom thinks the world revolves around Nikita"; which fandom doesn't think that way lol? Everyone has their show that he/she loves/obsesses over and believe it or not, they do think their show is the best out there. I think it's part of being a fan and there's nothing wrong with a Nikita fan, Supernatural fan or OUAT fan of they think that of their show.
I can't speak for anyone else, but I don't attack SPN because its ratings are high and I'm jealous. Of course i wish Nikita could do as well as SPN, and it frustrates me that it does much worse than shows that I believe aren't as good, but I'm not going to hate on SPN for its high ratings. That's just as ridiculous as hating on Nikita for its low ratings. I do criticize SPN for its content, because I believe it should have ended 2 or 3 years ago, but that's something else altogether. Like we said, there are fanatical crazies in every fandom, who often seem greater in numbers than they are because they're so LOUD. It doesn't represent the Nikita fandom as a whole. It's too bad some Nikita fans are too immature to accept that you like SPN better, or your comments about the ratings, but please don't associate the entire Nikitaverse with them.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Yay! Hope it helps!
ReplyDeleteYAY NIKITA! All the haters, SUCK IT!

ReplyDeleteWell if it was the only thing on makes sense.... I hope this bodes well for the show in terms of at least getting granted a final season.

ReplyDeleteFair enough. I agree that over here, that rude comment was completely unwarranted since no one insulted Nikita or made fun of its ratings.

Nikita stayed at 0.5 in the finals, although it was adjusted down *slightly* in overall viewers (from 1.6 million to 1.53). That's good to know :)
