-Ratings Breakdown:
The return of The Bachelor led ABC to overnight Monday victory with a 30 percent advantage over second-place NBC, which featured the time period premiere of The Biggest Loser and the series-premiere of drama Deception.

In the battle of The Bachelor versus The Biggest Loser, The Bachelor dominated with a 5.3 rating/8 share in the overnights from 8-10 p.m., which was right on par with the year-ago evening. The Biggest Loser finished a respectable second in three of the four half hours (excluding 9 p.m.), with a 4.3/ 6 from 8-10 p.m., which was virtually identical to last year’s Tuesday premiere (4.4/ 7 on 1/03/12). Compared to failed game show Who’s Still Standing? (3.6/ 5) and Fear Factor (3.5/ 5) on the year-ago evening, The Biggest Loser increased by 21 percent.

Keep in mind that both The Bachelor and The Biggest Loser faced encores of How I Met Your Mother (#3: 3.8/ 6), 2 Broke Girls (two episodes - 8:30 p.m.: #3, 3.6/ 6; 9 p.m. #2, 4.4/ 6) and Mike & Molly (#3, 4.3/ 6) from 8-10 p.m.

In series-premiere news, aforementioned Deception on NBC finished second at 10 p.m. with a 4.3/ 7 in the overnights. Comparably, this was a hefty 87 percent above year-ago time period occupant Rock Center With Brian Williams (2.3/ 4 on 1/09/12), but considerably below the 7.9/13 for the debut of prior time period occupant Revolution on 9/17/12 (out of a 9.2 rating for the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Voice). From a retention standpoint, however, 93 percent retention for Deception of the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Biggest Loser (4.7/ 7) was stronger than Revolution out of The Voice.

Castle on ABC won 10 p.m. hour with a 6.1/10, which was 11 percent above the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Bachelor (5.5/ 8). And a repeat of competing Hawaii Five-O on CBS finished third with a 3.6/ 6.

Elsewhere, Fox populated this first Monday in January with a repeat of Bones (#4: 2.9/ 4) and the series-finale of The Mob Doctor (#4: 2.5/ 4). And The CW aired encores of Hart of Dixie (#5: 0.6/ 1) and Beauty and the Beast (#5: 0.6/ 1). As a reminder, Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries debuts in the Monday 8 p.m. hour on The CW next week (into relocated 90210).

  1. "The Mob Wife" ; Hum, hum, Marc, you try The Mob Doctor. Ahah! Anyway... ~6-7 million viewers for Deception, that's not encouraging.

  6. TVBTN has cable ratings but you might have to wait for last nights results and then they will have to have rated well enough to appear in the top 100 cable shows, ABC's top shows usually are on the list. Try later.

  7. 6.7 million viewers that could all be in the A18-49 demo? Doesnt yet tell us anything.

    ReplyDelete
  8. but it's not a disaster! TBL got around 7 million with a 2.9.

  9. I didn't say it was. It's just the pilot!

    ReplyDelete
  10. Castle is 6.1/10? That means the 18-49 demo will be 1.8 or 1.9. Not good. Given the lack of competition I expected more.

  11. Where didu get these ratings?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Castle seems to have done well, even with the crappy 18-49.

  13. I'm glad Deception didn't do as well as Revolution. I want my Revolution back!

    ReplyDelete
  14. WTH happened to Castle? Every other episode in the season has had over 10 million viewers, but the last two have only received 8.5 million.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Deception did awesome. 5 million was alot .

  16. what omabin said.

Dancing.. always gives Castle additional 2-3 million viewers.

Season 5 have steady (but unimpressive) demo and apparently +/- 2 million viewers can't damage this 1.9-2.0 demo.

  17. I believe the point is there wasn´t a lot of people watching TV... in viewers only, with its 8.5 million, Castle was the most watched program...

  18. All were up against the BCS championship....Castle had the most viewers of all shows. It also was against Deception which a lot of viewers probably watch bc of curiosity.

    ReplyDelete
  19. With Deception airing 11 new episodes straight i'm thing this is how it will normally rate, which isn't bad

    ReplyDelete
  20. I would of thought Castle's numbers would of been higher w/o Revolution and a repeat of H50...

    ReplyDelete
  21. Poor Castle, without competition you should really do better... Shows you how much a good lead in helps.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Yep,but DWTS should be starting soon..

    ReplyDelete
  23. No competition? Guess yours is not a football-loving household. Championship games are usually considered competition!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Thank god I don't watch live. :P

    ReplyDelete
  25. Not to mention, there won't be a college football championship game every week.... Winning the night in total viewers really isn't all that worrisome.

    ReplyDelete
  26. without competition???? are you sure???

    ReplyDelete
  27. no good ratings for Deception, i think it was really bad, it had an incredible promotion around the usa!! promos all over the web, reviews in every magazine, so? only 2.0? and 5,6 million? Castle reruns has this audience.
