SUNDAY 1/20/13 Metered Markets
Household
Rating/Share
CBS 23.7/37
ABC 3.9/ 6
Fox 2.2/ 3
NBC 1.4/ 2
-Percent Change from the Year-Ago Evening (1/22/12):
CBS: +356, ABC: -11, NBC: -58, Fox: -93
----------
-Winners:
AFC Championship (CBS), Hawaii Five-O (CBS)
-Losers (excluding repeats):
Nothing – NBC and Fox were in all repeats
----------
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS ruled the Sunday overnight ratings roost, more than tripling the three competing networks combined thanks to the Baltimore Ravens at the New England Patriots on the AFC Championship. The match-up averaged an estimated 28.5 rating/43 share for the primetime portion from 7-10 p.m., which will, no doubt, lead the week. But it was not above the 32.5/47 in the overnights for the New York Giants versus the San Francisco 49ers on Fox on the NFC Championship Game one year earlier.
Airing in the 10 p.m. hour on CBS was a Sunday edition of Hawaii Five-O at a dominant (and also approximate) 9.0/15 in the overnights.
Second-place ABC was below average opposite the football game (as was NBC and Fox) with its line-up of America’s Funniest Home Videos (#2: 3.7/ 6), Once Upon a Time (#2: 4.9/ 7), Revenge (#2: 4.3/ 6) and a Sunday 10 p.m. repeat of Shark Tank (#3: 2.8/ 5).
NBC hid from the AFC Championship with back-to-back two-hour encore episodes of The Biggest Loser (1.3/ 2 from 7-9 p.m.; 1.6/ 3 from 9-11 p.m.). And Fox also traveled the repeat route with its animated line-up of Bob’s Burgers (#3: 2.2/ 4), The Cleveland Show (#3: 1.8/ 3), The Simpsons (#3: 2.5/ 4), the regularly scheduled edition of Bob’s Burgers (#3: 2.0/ 3), Family Guy (#3: 2.3/ 3) and American Dad (#3: 2.2/ 3).

For what is worth, and I am not sure how much that is since I think these overnight things are very misleading, these are the same numbers Revenge got last week and 0.1 below what Once Upon a Time got last week.
ReplyDeleteSo bad :/
ReplyDeleteHawaii Five-0 used the NFL to its advantage, big time.
ReplyDeleteH50's numbers will probably be adjusted down because of football run-off.
ReplyDeleteUgh, poor OUAT. The ratings will go up once it returns from break and isn't against football.
HAWAII 5-O got a 3.4 (subject to downward adjustment) not a 4.1 (which I suspect may only be the demo for the fist half of the episode (and subsequent run over of football) where 3.4 is the average over the whole hour.
ReplyDeletePeople watch the Grammys?
ReplyDeletewohoho H50!!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah Hawaii Five-0!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteH5O only got those numbers because of football the episode wasn't even that good.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has their own opinion, but I wonder if you have even seen this great episode.
ReplyDeleteAnd no matter why they got the numbers, they did get them. And I'm happy for it. Why so glum about it?
Maybe for the people like me who don't give a rat's ass about sports and think that they just get in the way of quality scripted television?
ReplyDeleteYeah ? Well, if you love « quality scripted television, » maybe you should ask yourself if it's not better for ABC to schedule the originals w/o any competition, because it's killing Revenge (or even OUAT), it's pretty clear to me. ABC always do that, and it ends up as a fiasco. If you love Revenge/OUAT, you should hate ABC for killing them, that's it. Revenge won't get any trouble getting a 3rd season, neither will OUAT, but ABC loses viewers, that's for sure.
ReplyDeleteWhat is the problem with that? If it gets them more viewers then more power to them.
ReplyDelete12 mill that's a good number I didn't think they'll hit the 20 mill like with the S1 Sunday ep of the Fake Tsunami but I'm happy it looks like there'll be a pickup coming for S4. But I have heard an Insider has said that it is guaranteed to happen due to the syndication deal of 88 episodes
ReplyDeleteI don't think ABC kills Revenge and OUAT. The most viewers who missed the episodes of this shows because of football recorded them or watch them online. They don't jump off.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope they don't, then.
ReplyDelete& why are you eating yourself like that anyway? seems like you can't stand to see H5.0 doing great in ratings...pfffff, well like it or not,it did greater than great & it was an AWESOME episode according to viewers voting, so you can die suffering now :p
ReplyDeleteThat might be true as far as the viewers go, but ABC is still being an idiot for doing that because the live ratings are the ones that matter most to the networks. Not the online views or any other way. Unfortunately, there is no current way to measure those ratings because everyone uses the outdated Nielsen system. Ultimately, the viewers would pay the price for ABC's mistakes because the shows could get cancelled for bad ratings because ABC decides to air them at bad times. This is one reason why CBS is the #1 network: they're very smart. What do they do when NBC puts their biggest hit drama in years, Revolution, on hiatus for 3 months until March? They seize the chance to boost the ratings of H50, whose ratings had taken a hit because of competition from Revolution.
ReplyDeleteYeah the episode was great. Although it did have some serialized content in it that you wouldn't understand without seeing previous ones. Also, forget that one. Monday's was even better. What a way to bring Wo Fat back. I didn't see that one coming. It was great. And yeah, CBS knows how to get good ratings. That's why they're #1 right now and have been #1 for many years.
ReplyDeleteProbably a Revolution fan who knows that it's probably going to get cancelled because of low ratings when it finally comes back. Good job once again, NBC.
ReplyDeleteit will be cancelled in your dreams, i think H50 will still be your worst night mare for more seasons to come, so be ready coz it aint going anywhere & its doing very good at ratings, Mondays #1 show at its time slut so once again, DIE SUFFERING & SMASH on NBC is not even close to have H50 's ratng & demo pffff, seriously, your like the biggest joke dude!!!
ReplyDeleteI read on another site that it was 12 mill not 14 so I think that's the final number table here http://tvbythenumbers.zap2it.com/2013/01/21/tv-ratings-sunday-once-upon-a-time-revenge-fall-as-football-sacks-the-competition/165941/
ReplyDeleteNo I like that it's done that. I was just pointing out that it did that :). It'll help the show out, any people who saw it for the first time on Sunday night might actually watch it on a weekly basis now.
