-Ratings Breakdown:
Opposite all repeats on CBS, it was an easy Thursday overnight victory for Fox, which featured two more hours of American Idol. Idol averaged a 10.4 rating/16 share from 8-10 p.m., which dipped by 11 percent from both a one-hour edition on the year-ago evening (11.7/18 on 1/19/12 opposite originals on CBS) and the two-hour season-opener on Wednesday (11.7/18 on 1/16/13). The 11.7/18 in the overnights on Wednesday translated into 17.93 million viewers and a 6.0 rating/16 share among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day results (which dipped by 4.0 million viewers and 19 percent in the demo from the year-ago season-premiere). In other words, Idol is down but certainly not over.
Encores of CBS’ Thursday line-up -- The Big Bang Theory (#2: 7.5/12), Two and a Half Men (#2: 5.8/ 9), Person of Interest (#3: 6.1/ 9) and Elementary (#2: 4.8/ 8) – finished at typical non-original levels.
In disappointing news at NBC, the second Thursday telecast of sitcom 1600 Penn (and third episode overall) dropped to a very distant fourth-place 2.3/ 4 in the overnights at 9:30 p.m. Comparably, that was 21 percent below its week-ago time period premiere (2.9/ 5 on Jan. 10), with retention out of lead-in The Office (#4: 3.1/ 5 at 9 p.m.) of 74 percent. One year earlier, then freshman sitcom Up All Night (which should never have been granted a second season) averaged a similar 2.7/ 4 in the overnights on 1/19/12.
At 10 p.m. on NBC, however, newsmagazine Rock Center With Brian Williams (which moves into the Friday 10 p.m. out of Dateline on February 8), rose to a season high 3.4/ 6 (#3) from 10-11 p.m.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was 30 Rock, which concludes with a two-hour episode on January 31, and relocated Parks and Recreation each with a fourth-place 2.9/ 5.
Elsewhere (and opposite an encore of aforementioned Elementary on CBS), sophomore ABC drama Scandal rose to first at 10 p.m., with a 6.1/10 in the overnights and retention out of the 9:30 p.m. portion of lead-in Grey’s Anatomy (#2: 6.7/10) of a sold 91 percent. Overall, Grey’s Anatomy finished second in the 9 p.m. hour, with a 6.6/10 (out of a third-place 3.6/ 6 for canceled Last Resort from 8-9 p.m.).
The CW capped off the night with The Vampire Diaries at a last-place 1.9/ 3 at 8 p.m., followed by another repeat of The Carrie Diaries pilot at a 0.8/ 1 at 9 p.m. (#5). The launch of The Carrie Diaries on Monday resulted in a disappointing 1.61 million viewers with a 0.6/ 2 among adults 18-49, based on the Live Plus Same Day results.

I watched scandal and I found it bad and overacting, overdramatic and it fits better as a soap opera.

ReplyDelete0.2 down from last week and with no competition, is it good? ok. Good ratings doesnt mean if a show is good. Those from 18 to 49 are not the only people who have good taste. (i am 18-49)
