I didn't like the bro fighting but it would make no sense to see them happy nd hugging right at the beginning, at least they both chose each other :) No that I doubt it. FINALLY the first big step taken in the right direction
I loved it! So glad Cas had enough of the boys' shit and got them back together. And whoa, he did not look good at the end.
Nooooooooooooooooooo, Alfie. Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.
And aww, the boys chose each other! So glad they seem to have resolved their issues for now. The end was so cute!
Still not convinced Amelia is real, tbh. But she's gone now, so we'll never find out. And if she was real, WAY TO CHEAT ON YOUR HUSBAND THAT YOU WERE CLEARLY STILL WITH.
Man, that was solid but depressing. Interesting characters got hung out to dry. Next week's episode looks pretty creampuff. Hopefully some of the upcoming episodes will have the sort of performances tonight's did.
3.Crowley better not get his hands on the angel tablet soon or the angels are screwed big time. :S
4.Poor Cas :( He is manipulated by that monster. He looked like a little terrified child.I hope Sam and Dean discover what's happening and help him because he's suffering and noone sees it.
5.Hot SAM!!!!I liked his scenes with Amelia.
6.Benny's getting on my nerves!!!Enough with the blood problems.Dean is not your nanny.
7.LOL At Dean's jumpscare when Cas popped up!!! :P Love these moments and the "That's his serious face" was HILARIOUS!!!! :p
8.I wanted to punch both Sam and Dean for their behavors during most the episode BUT...they did it.FINALLY!!!Family is forever and for them it always comes first in the end no matter what.No vampire buddies, girls, angels, demons can get between them. Those are the boys I fell in love in the first place. That very last scene where they eat and drink together was lovely.I am so happy with the outcome!!!
I love this newish Cas that we're getting this season. I love that he's still a bad ass warrior angel (who still watches Dean sleep hahaha) and all, but I love that he randomly goes around healing babies, too, probably as part of his penance. That was so effing cute. Though I officially feel ten times worse about what Naomi's doing to him. Bleeding from the eye can't be a good thing.
I still haven't formed an opinion on Amelia. I know I probably should have by now, but I still seem to be indifferent to her. When she showed up on screen tonight, all I thought was "eh". I could have done without her. But maybe that'll change as we figure out exactly what she's supposed to mean to Sam right now.
And I don't think we've seen the last of Benny, honestly. I can see him cropping up again. Though he can stay gone if it means Sam and Dean can get over their latest fight and be brothers who get along again.
Now that was a complete episode. Sam made the right choice, Dean didn't take the blame for everything, Castiel's story was pushed forward and we saw the toll everything has been taking on Kevin. Add to that Crowley's systematic torture of Alfie (poor Alfie!) and it hit all the right buttons.
I'm glad the Sam/Amelia thing is over. I know I was supposed to care, but never did. She was just unlikable. So I'm happy Sam finally got a clue and decided he needed to put the job first and that Winchesters and normal don't work. He has responsibilities, he needs to live up to them. Good for you, Sam. Dean was willing to let him go. His 'one of us should be happy" line said tons about his maturity. Yes, he wants his bother with him, but he can do it alone and will if necessary. He knows who he is and what his life's purpose is. I was sad to see him say goodbye to Benny who was obviously reaching out for help, but Dean will always choose Sam. I still believe Sam was wrong about Benny, and I don't think this is the last we see of him, but staying on the straight and narrow is going to be almost impossible now that his great grand-daughter and his one friend are no longer there to give him a reason to fight his nature. Too bad. I liked Benny. He's a sympathetic monster, but I see a future where Dean will have to kill him and that'll be tough for him.
Just who is Naomi? Alfie was trying to tell Cas, but her hold on him was too strong. So there is an angel tablet and Crowley knows about it. I'm sure that means he will now double his efforts to find Kevin and that tablet. How great would it be for the King of Hell to be able to eliminate angels from his chessboard? With Sam and Dean now on the same page, I look forward to seeing how things move along from here. Lots of things set up and our boys are right in the middle of it where they belong. Bring it on!
If everyone would've been hugging each other and loving and all, you and everyone else would've complain, with every reason to do so, that it doesn't make any sense considering where they left in the last episode (and considering all the rest of the season). If wouldn't make sense either to just jump X months/weeks in the futur where everyone is happy with a line ''hey you remember when we started talking 2 weeks ago?''
I wasn't fan of the bro fighting at the beginning and the tension, but it needed to be done.
It was good. It was really good. Very emotional in areas, pretty action pact. Poor Cas.. seriously..wow. :( And poor Alfie! Wow. And I even felt bad for Amelia, but it really did have to be. Can't have SPN without Sam. Was real sad about Dean and Benny! <3 Benny and he's very clearly struggling. But again, I can understand why Dean did it.
..Ugh..again..Poor Cas.
Love that the boys got their crap together. Took brainwashed Cas to make them open their eyes.
Find myself looking forward to the next episode! Need some comedic relief and it looks hilarious!
That ending has to be the most strained truce ever, but at least they have both committed to working together. I have a feeling we have not seen the last of Benny and Sam may get to see him die after all. I'm hoping this is the last of Amelia.
Maybe Naomi is going to be the big bad, she can give Crowley a run for his money..what a bitch.
I'm just stunned that that's where they're leaving things with Cas. Can't we get a bit more about what's going on with him?
And I am rather disappointed in Dean and Sam for leaving Benny and Amelia. I get the two-brothers-alone-against-the-world-codependent thing, but Benny /needed/ Dean. People could die if he falls off the wagon. And Sam /loves/ Amelia. I'm not angry about the ending, like I know a lot of people are, though. They're just at midseason, so they swung from one extreme to another, they can still find an equilibrium.
Don't really care about who likes who and if the brothers are fighting. We finally got a tiny push forward with the myth arc and it gets ruined by a lot of stuff almost happening.
How do you want to get push forward with the myth arc with the boys fighting all the time? They need to be together to get the job done and they needed to cup the crap to do it.
Five actually thought it was awful? Really. lol I am worried about Cas. The story was terrific tonight. He we got a major gift. Sam and Dean working together. Sam willingly gave up Amelia when Dean told him to go. Dean called and told Benny goodbye and he was on his own. Dean didn't want to fight any more. He was tired of it. He was willing to just let Sam leave without a fight. Sam realized he needed to do what he just did. There was too much going on. The Castiel story is heating up. I loved this
Naomi needs to die a painful death. Not only for having Cas kill Samandriel (who couldn't help releasing info to Crowley and didn't deserve that even in the slightest) but also for hurting Cas and forcing him to do her dirty work!
I'm glad Dean and Sam at least know something is wrong with Cas and that it's someone messing with him. I really can't wait for them to figure it all out and to kill Naomi. Urgh. I haven't felt this frustrated with a villain in a long time.
Glad Sam and Dean are back working together even if they still have issues they'll have to talk about eventually.
Also glad the whole thing with Amelia is over. That part was way too soapy and pointless. I'm hoping here on out Sam's story gets deeper into the main arc and not with a girl.
It's good for the brother relationship wise that Dean cut ties with Benny, but now things are really worrisome. With no support Benny could easily fall off the wagon, sort to speak. If that happens then Sam's going to go all "I told you so" with Dean. He wouldn't understand. And I don't like the idea of Dean maybe having to kill him.
This left me in two minds. I forgive a lot, though, for that last scene of the brothers talking reasonably to each other. So much of this episode was predictable. I never felt suspense in the whole hour, even though I was entertained.
I wish Sam's choice was less because he needs to do the hunt, and more because he wants to hunt with Dean, like in older seasons, but I'll take what they gave. At least he chose consciously, even when Amelia was laid out for him on a platter. Aufwieder, Amelia, I hated eveything about you and Sam.
Very very sad about Benny. I hope he comes back, and not in a predictable "Dean needs to put him down" scenario. I still don't understand why Sam was so dead set an enemy, when he was always the one who cut beings a break, if they proved themselves. So much of Sam's character writing leaves me disgusted this season. I think they are waiting way too long to get to the point with both the Naomi and Crowley stories. I'm teetering on "get the heck on with it." Also getting tired of Sam & Dean guest starring in the episode, with no central storyline for both in sight for eons. Carver is still better, so far, but I've got my left foot in disenchantment now.
I like Naomi but please o please supernatural PLEASE STOP SCREWING WITH CAS :(!! Cas has been and is going through as much hell as Dean and Sam (in different ways) Cas is one of the best things of Supernatural and I need him ok. Anyways Naomi I like because its amanda tapping! But I hate how their brainwashing Cas and apparently other angels. But I guess theirs an angel tablet now so maybe we wont have the problem anymore but correct me if im wrong, If crowley or even the winchesters were to close heaven with the tablet what does that mean for Cas? Would he be stuck in heaven forever with them? Or if he was on earth when they closed it could he stay on Earth? Considering he's an angel idk but if he had to choose im guessing he'd want to stay on Earth...maybe.
we'll see benny again i bet but with amelia i feel the opposite. She realized he's done and he is. I dont think we'll see her again and that fine since they closed it.
I agree with all of this except the Benny part! Then again, I <3 Benny and pang for what he's going through and want to see more of him without it being him getting killed. But, everything else? Oh yeah, I'm right there with you. Naomi=DIE NOW, Alfie=Awww... :( :( Cas: OMG CAS! :( Ahem. And the boys at the end... Bloody frigging perfect. Was a very touching moment set to the perfect music. Made me think of the Christmas episode.
Well, I thought the angel part was really well done. Cas stole the show, and Samdriel, Crowley and Naomi were great. The rest felt off.
I'm still not feeling Amelia as an insta-love, and Benny as an insta-brother. The conflict between Sam and Dean felt real. But the rest - the two of them warming up as they worked together - felt too cliche. I'm not sure where I've seen it before. The Brady Bunch maybe? Or maybe it was the psychic episode last year that smoothed over the Amy mess. But I'm glad the Benny-Amelia detour is over, and hopefully the action will pick up a little.
I didn't love the way Sam was written - too passive and too nonverbal. But I will say I liked this Sam-Amelia scene better than any others. There was more heat, but the chemistry still isn't quite right.
One thing that I'm sure will fester in the fandom for a while is Sam making Dean choose between him and Benny. While the reason Sam had to choose between hunting and Amelia was pretty obvious, the Benny choice wasn't, and of course there was no dialogue to explain it. Sam's not possessive and he compartmentalizes. His anger toward Dean was believable but it's not in character for Sam to transfer it to another character. And now Benny's fall will be squarely on Sam's shoulders in the eyes of the online fandom, since he not only involved Martin, he is now responsible for cutting off Benny's last lifeline.
I have always been a fan of both brothers, but this season the Sam they are giving us has made me not like him very much. I don't even know how to put it into words, just condescending and acting better than anyone else and I don't like feeling that way about my family. ;) I said the other day I was ready for Dean to just buy Sam a bus ticket and tell him don't let the door hit you on the way out. Was a little happy they have both made the choice to stay and work together. But I don't think everything is ok with them either.
What's weirdest to me, is that I understand a couple of changes to Sam's characterization to accomodate the Amelia storyline, wanting to give Sam a reason not to look for Dean. But it seems like several character changes happened this season - in particular, the kind of creepy, unforgiving attitude he has towards Benny. Sam has always let people prove themselves, and this season, this hatred of Benny comes off as petty spite because Dean trusts him. That just doesn't fit with past Sam. He would mistrust at first, yes, but give him a chance to prove, or at least trust some of what Dean has said. It is so OTT Soap Opera-ish, just ugh.
I agree with the Sam problem. His Benny attitude is OOC for sure, and it's very hard to avoid the ethical problem that Sam would be the secondary cause of Benny's fall.
Yeah, thinking about it. Some of the stuff about Sam and Dean did just feel unnecessarily cruel and miserable, but I think, for me at least, it came from the fact it was so poorly set up. If there was a reason behind Sam's hatred for Benny, then I think Sam telling Dean to stop talking to Benny would have made more sense. And if Sam and Amelia's romance made more sense, then I think the ending of their relationship would have been less miserable, because the relationship would have been less miserable. Personally, I think it comes down to the fact that they really didn't resolve anything or explain anything for the brothers. There was no real payoff in the episode, not even when I came to Sam and Dean's relationship. There's no suspense and not enough forward movement this season.
I agree totally. I'm still waiting for an explanation why Sam had such a hard on to kill Benny from the get go. Simply because he was a vampire? It made no sense considering their past dealings with monsters and Sam's penchant for not killing until they've done something to be killed for. It was like you said, it came across as petty spite simply because Dean trusted Benny. I hope there is an explanation, but I'm not holding my breath. And his line that he 'trusted Dean, but he didn't trust Benny'? Huh? Seems to me he didn't trust Dean's judgement at all. Yeah he gave him an hour or so, but that was after he'd called Martin in to spy and then left Dean unconscious and handcuffed to a radiator (which was conveniently forgotten for the 'you used let me think the woman I loved was in danger' explanation for his attitude.) It still doesn't make sense. But if we're past it now, I can forget and just chalk it up to Sam having a brain fart. :)
Hopefully, this is the end of the sibling whinging.
Beyond that I rather liked the ep...they finally gave me something, on the arc story, that I found interesting. IMHO it took much too long to get here. I am really glad that Amelia is gone. (That was hands down the least interesting story Supernatural has tackled.) Sentient beings with base coding that can be hacked...not the best design plan ever. :-) Poor Cas. Poor Alfie. Poor Cas. Poor Benny. That has me bummed.
I just had this odd thought....are we going to find ourselves at the end of the season with a Mexican standoff. Sam & Dean holding the Demon tablet and Crowley holding the Angel tablet.
The brothers eat while sitting on the couch watching boxing. No words are said but they both look at each other to remind us that they are uncomfortable with each other and that things are not close to being over.
Ha! I voted poor. Its redeeming factor was the angel tablet. Glad they finally revealed what we expected all along. Now to find the thing and close the heaven gate.
well I hope you are all happy another lame-ass reason to get the guys back together and I so sick of it I want to gag. You know I just sick thats it god next week better be funny so I can start have fun with the show again. it breaks my heart to see that no one wants anybody to be a litte bit happy on this show and that really does suck you know but I guess this is not that kind of show.
Wow, that sounds just...I feel awkward just reading it. But I guess, if anyone can pull of saying a thousand words without actually saying anything, it's Jared and Jensen.
I want Sam to be happy but he isnr going to be either way. Staying with Amelia which is a relationship that the show never really convinced alot of people of and did very little for Sam or Dean the brother he has a strained relationship with in a life deep down he really doesnt want.
The whole exercise has been pointless because he was going to chose Dean because the premise of the show is those two hunting .
i agree with u it was a wonderful episode and its good to see Dean being ok with Sam moving on if he wants to and i'm glad Sam chose to stay and Cas we'll see how tht gets solved
Another average episode for a very average season.
This episode felt very disorganized in its storytelling. I'm not liking this whole Heaven-reprogramming angels storyline, but maybe that's supposed to be the case since they are messing with Castiel and I don't really know this new chick. Amelia thing just seems like what was the point of it if it just ended like that. And Benny, well I never really cared for Benny.
Yep kind of agreeing with you. Didn't feel Amelia didn't, didn't like that Sam became a bit on the side when Don just happened to be away so Amelia could get time to skulk off. I also didn't like the Benny stuff it felt really rushed because I didn't get why Dean had to break up with Benny considering everything even with the idea that Benny was getting a bit needy and Dean has a lot on his plate because it felt it came down to Sam's ultimatum which wasn't right. If anything it is the first time I have really felt that Dean is a lousy friend to have.
The only bits I liked this week with the brothers was Dean and Cas.
He can stay gone if we actually got some resolution on Sam's irrational distrust. I still don't get why Sam hates the guy when he let others go and I still don't get why Dean didn't give Sam the whole story about what happened with Martin.
If Dean has to apologise for the text I need some mea culpa from Sam with regard to his actions in the last episode.
Until then Benny (who I actually like) has become as pointless as Amelia with possibly the exception that this time it is Dean is the one doing the abandoning rather than others abandoning him - for what a somewhat semi toxic relationship with his brother? Because truce or not it ain't healthy for either of them right now.
So now Sam can add being an adulterer to his long list of "Sins"! X One last boring fling with the unpleasant Amelia, thus leaving everything open for her to come along and say that she is pregnant, but big mystery.........who is the child's father, Don or Sam?
Gosh this cliffhanger would be so awesome as to chill me to my toes! (sarcasm!!) Bleh!! X
I wouldn't be surprised if Carver went there.
When one thinks things can't get any worse, one finds out they can!
No. If everything ends up like you want it there is no conflict, which all protagonists have to have. I've said all along that brothers fight and it is no big deal to me if they are fighting or not. Was more disappointed with the possibility of never knowing who the shadowy figure from episode one was. Also thought they could have extended the Benny storyline. That being said, and having four hours to rest my head, I really think they missed the boat for those of you who angst over the relationship.
Man, I should have hidden my keyboard yesterday. 20 hours of writing coming off another "cycle" of my spine giving me all sorts of trouble. I quit sleeping at 3 am today and am trying damage control.
I'm blaming last night's poor effort on my part on Alfie's continual high-pitched screaming. I couldn't even concentrate on what Crowley was saying.
And they tortured him with that stupid uniform on. I'll never look at a corn dog the same way again.
I voted awful. Will we ever know the identity of the shadowy figure? I liked the banter between Dean and Benny and am left to wonder if he is a hunt in their future. Alfie's screaming. Nuff said. Wished Dean would have called Benny with Sam there. Loved the toll it all was taking on Kevin. I'm looking for him to save some of the good information for himself and maybe turn a little bad.
Thought about your query about Crowley knowing Enochian. Probably late with this but I think he had to learn it to ward his house and hideouts.
Now I know why I disliked Amelia so much. She looks like someone from long ago that I was very lucky getting out of the way of.
I understand you, Jen. (OK to call you Jen?) Was up way too long under difficult circumstances to have been operating a keyboard.
I'm not big on the relationship. Monsters and mythology are what I like to see. Alfie's screaming gave me a headache. Couldn't even concentrate on what Crowley was saying.
Looking like the wrapping up of two story lines, too. Really wanted to know who the shadowy figure was but I'll live. I will miss the banter between Dean and Benny. They hit it on the head with those two as guys really do talk like that.
I'll watch it again today after handfuls of meds and I'm able to walk again.
During the show I kept talking out loud "I am sick of all this brother fighting ....knock it off" When Dean said that he was tired of the fighting I shouted a big AMEN! Sam and Amelia NO WAY....Sam realized in his heart that it was wrong that they slept together because now it is "infidelity". Dean realized that Benny has to be let go and end this relationship. When Amelia closed the door to the motel room realizing that Sam was not there.........and the camera went back to Dean sitting alone in the motel watching TV....I held my breath and there it happened. Sam with dinner for him and his brother....sitting on the sofa watching TV like many old episodes ago! See ....Castiel goes.............Benny goes....Amelia goes....but the brothers Winchester are the glue which I believe is what SPN fans adore the most. I think last nights episode was a turning point for the brothers. I can't think of anymore secrets or untold unspoken words between them....the cards are on the table and they are face up............game on........move forward....get to work brothers. In other words "STOW YOUR CRAP!" I just want to say something else......Benny should have come to SPN as Bobby's long lost son because he sure looks like Bobby Jr!
Big difference to when they sat on the couch together in AVSC, there too without words but with their brotherly love enveloping them both, warming their hearts and those of the viewers.
I gave it an OK. It plodded too much for my tastes. I know it wrapped some stuff up (possibly) and set the second half of the season up, but by midway through the ep, I was tired of Samandriel screaming. Too much of it. Glad to see the boys choose each other in the end (of course it would happen) and I know some don't think so, but I thought Sam's struggle to deal with old life vs the life he's always wanted was nicely done. I think it took him out of character to an extent, but it had to, because he was dealing with something outside of Dean that he really really wanted to happen.
Anyway...an OK eppy for me. Just dragged too much. And I do wonder though, we still never found out about the 'person' outside of Amelia/Sam's place in ep 1. I'm assuming we'll find out who that was at some point.
Thinking about it some more, I guess Sam was reacting to the "Benny's a better brother than you" stuff, and Dean doing something that would hurt Sam to save Benny, but it still needed more clarification. If the ultimatum was about Dean's actions and attitude, that needed to be said.
Nothing about Sam this season seems real to me, his needing companionship badly enough to get with bitchy Amelia?? His not looking for Dean? His feelings toward Benny? Nothing. This is not the Sam I love and I am having a hard time feeling any love for him at all.
I think Dean and Benny had an understanding before they got out, that they were going their own ways. Dean has mentioned it several times.."like we talked about". I do think Benny will be back and hopefully not in a killing someone way. I don't want Dean to have to kill him, it would give Sam to much pleasure.
I have wondered about that figure also, maybe he will fit in with what is wrong with Sam, hey I am looking for anything to explain Sam not looking for Dean. lol Any port in a storm.
They were different. Amy had killed for a limited time to save her son but she demonstrated a long-term plan for surviving without killing, with the exception of the rare occasion of her family being in a life-threatening situation. And even then she chose victims that would be considered "monsters" by some of their own kind (reckless drunk drivers, drug pushers). Her motivation for chosing a nonviolent life was her conscience, a life decision she chose when she was still a child.
While there's a lot we don't know about Benny's background, if he was turned into a vamp in the 1800s (not sure where I heard that so it could be wrong), and didn't stop killing until the early 1960s when he met a girl, was killed, and sent to Purgatory, he could have a body count that makes Jeffrey Dahmer look like a boy scout. His motivation for not killing was someone he loved, but without a crutch, he's vunerable and a threat.
I liked the Dean and Benny banter as well. Felt that Sam's lines were way over the top tonight "words can never cover how I feel about you" yuck! Did Sam get sucked into a Romance Novel tonight?
Well it was rather obvious that there would be one. No surprises there. :)
Actually there haven't been any surprises up to now.
A big surprise would be to see the brothers smiling, as this whole season has been so depressing. The torture of poor Samandiel was far too long and drawn out but maybe that was just to take up a few more minutes of the episode as I don't think the writers have a clue even on how to fill up the 40 minutes.
I don't want Dean to kill Benny either, it hurt that both Dean and benny were both cut up about Dean dumping his friend even though they were calm and reasonable about it and even with their prior agreement.
but still the only reason I got that Dean did it was so at some point Benny doesn't become a bone of contention with Sam again. it feels like everything has been set up to placate Sam - yet again. Why Carver Why???
Yeah he did, but it still felt like Dean was doing it to placate Sam. Maybe he was preparing for Sam to leave but with Sam's earlier ultimatium he thought if he kept in contact with Benny, Sam would cut off all contact with him.
Sad isn't it if that is the case - where did self assured post purgatory Dean go? he seems to have become as pathetic and needy as Amelia is.
Sam is already being blamed for Martin's actions and death. Now, when Benny starts killing, Sam will be blamed for that too because he "forced" Dean to choose, thus leaving Benny without any support. I can see the Sam hate already.
Yes, there was just too much. Then the poor angel didn't stand a chance.
When Dean tortured Alastair, the demon practically gave back as good as he got and although it was hurtful to watch, it was a duel between equals, but poor Samandriel just got slaughtered and then of course Castiel/Naomi finished him off.
Will we ever know the identity of the shadowy figure? Since that would mean showing some interest in Sam and it would be a return to the Amelia story, I doubt it.
For me, it was the brother rift that smelled lame-ass. After where they were since the end of Point of No Return in S5, to 8-1, the fighting was ridiculously artificial, done for weak writing drama.
But the thing is that Sam's hate of Benny started well before he found out any of that out, if he has actually found out any of that - because on screen he doesn't seem to want to know a lot about Benny spelled out other than he is a vampire.
So it comes off as irrational, it comes off as petty against Dean rather than seeing Benny as an actual threat and as for his reaction to the monsters he has let go in the past it compared to Benny it comes off as Sam only trusting the cute and pretty monsters while not being willing to do the same to the one who in his own words hasn't always been cute and fluffy.
I thought it was a great epi. I started off like it was going to be slow but really whipped around and ended well. Love Cas telling Sam and Dean to "Stow their crap".
lol Yeah I rewatched it and the looks they give each other at the end were pretty miserable. Is this really where Carver & Sons want to take the brother relationship? No one in their lives and miserable as sin when together. Yummy.
The thing is Dean hid Benny from Sam. Sam couldn't know anything about Benny because Dean never said anything about him. The first time Sam sees Benny is when Dean is coming back from the vamp nest with Benny and even then Sam didn't know Benny was a vampire until he shook his and and either didn't feel a pulse or the body was too cold. Dean could have told Sam a vampire helped him get out of Purgatory. He could have introduced Benny as the vampire who helped him get out of Purgatory, but he kept him like a dirty little secret.
Sam didn't have a hard on to kill Benny, he just wanted to make certain Benny wasn't going to come back and bit Dean in the butt. He didn't pull a Dean and kill Benny behind Dean's back. He found out there were vampire attacks where Benny was living. He gave Dean a chance to investigate. Dean could have taken Sam with him so Sam didn't have to hear Benny's story second hand. Dean didn't go and find any evidence to back up Benny's story about Desmond. I don't think Sam had a brain fart, I just think it was what he said, Dean was asking Sam to trust Benny's word and Sam didn't know Benny enough to do that.
In some ways it is the same. Sam knew Amy and trusted her. Dean didn't trust her so he killed her. In this case Dean knew Benny and trusted him. Sam didn't know Benny so he didn't trust him. Sam was clear he trusts Dean, he doesn't trust a vampire that he's never met when people are being killed by a vampire.
If Dean can say you were too close to Amy to see the situation clearly, then Sam can say the same about Benny and not be petty or vindictive or anything other than a hunter taking out a vampire when people are dying.
I usually just try to analyze and most people understand. But this fandom is a very passionate group. That's half the fun; seeing all the spirited banter and how some people can love an episode while someone else hates it. i think it makes for great interaction.
BUT just like you said, it happens. There are people who take it WAY to seriously.
As you can see with my conversations with SuePo, I like to have fun with it.
And thank you for the support. After working in customer service for 25 years it is pleasant to hear something supportive.
I absolutely loved this episode, it was dark and scary and there was finally some progress. I can't wait to see what happens next! It was also good to see the brothers together again, and the ending was brilliant.
Why would you put that out there? Just when I thought the soap opera portion of this show was closed, you go and write such a thing. Now, my stomach is in knots. Shudder to think.
Well. It's something that could happen . :( She obviously has been to bed with Don and she then has this last fling with Sam.
The way Carver has turned SPN into Soapernatural, this would be a natural progression for him. I ardently hope it never happens but many of the things I have thought of have sort of come true.:(
Considering it took 20 episodes to learn who took SoulessSam out of the cage I don't see why lose all hope from people to know one day. If the figure was spying on Sam (and not Amelia), that figure can still reveal his identity
That's a distinct possibility. Maybe they plan on doing something with him, but that would mean Amelia would be back and I dont think I can live through Soapurnatural again.
Wow, you and I got a whole different take on all that. :) Dean didn't hide Benny, he just didn't give Sam a detailed description of how he got out. Just like Sam didn't tell Dean about Amelia and his new normal right away either. (there is, after all an entire season they need to fill up. Revealing everything right away would be silly.) I think Dean's omission had more to do with his guilt of leaving Cas behind than the fact Benny was a vampire. Sam has never reacted that way about any monster before, so what reason would Dean have to hide him? Dirty little secret? Dean needed Benny to get out of Purgatory and it worked. Did Sam think he was going to find help within Monsterland from anything other than a monster?
And yes, you are correct, the first time Sam saw Benny was with Dean after he and Benny killed the vampire nest. When they shook hands he realized he wasn't human -- and immediately went for a knife even though Dean was standing right there, unharmed, obviously at ease with him. He didn't give Dean a second to explain or perform introductions any further than "Sam, this is Benny." That reaction was what I question and I still have no idea why he reacted so strongly. So yeah, Sam had a hard on to kill Benny from the start. Unexplained as of yet because being a vampire is not enough for someone who has let vamps go in the past. Does he keep tabs on all the monsters they've let go? Lenore's nest? The werewolf girl? The dog-guy? Not that we know of. Just Benny. You interpret that Sam just wanted to make certain Benny wasn't going to come back and bite Dean in the butt, but there was no evidence of that and to me, nothing he did or said conveyed "I want to protect my brother". All I got was "kill monster." Like I said, we have two distinctly different interpretations of that.
Exactly. Dean's been trying to explain, but Sam hung up on him. Dean drove to Texas, Sam didn't want to hear it. Like Dean said, "you heard what you wanted to hear." Does Sam even know Martin kidnapped an innocent girl, held her at knifepoint and used her for leverage? Does he know Martin died because of that? What would Sam do if he was in Benny's shoes? Somehow I doubt he'd just let someone take his head without fighting back. And yes, Sam's negative reaction to Benny was the moment they met. It's my problem with it, too.
Hey, I took French in high school. And German in college. And I know a girl on a Fencing scholarship at Notre Dame. But she won't talk to me now. Wonder why???
It took me a while to figure out the symbolistic language Twitter has created. Still don't know what the <3 means. (I've seen the drawings in ancient bathrooms!)
I would love to fence you but my uniform wouldn't have the little red heart. Most of my friends say I don't have one!
I never worry about labels. Remember I'm freakishly huge and my Driver Education teacher asked if I stopped the car with my feet.
I've been rambling lately. My doctor, bless her heart, praises me on the brevity of my e-mails. She asked the other day about a refill I had requested. She got 2000+ words in the response.
When Sam found out the argument at the Impala Sam asked if Benny had told Dean he wasn't live feeding and Dean said yes and Sam was dismissive which didn't exactly engender anyone to open up and talk. As much as I could understand Sam being pissed at being kept in the dark the fact he didn't poke he didn't prod he barely asked when it came to Benny every time Sam opened his mouth his attitude was cold. I could understand him being that way with Dean about it but to take that out on Benny when he gives so many others the benefit of the doubt comes off as petty.
And Sam didn't say he he would go with Dean or that he would push to investigate the idea of Desmond - he went directly to Benny's camp with Martin after he knocked Dean out.
It the idea is as you said then I think the actual execution just like Amelia has fallen down flat. It has hit Sam in the face because now with his not wanting to even hear the details of Martin's death just makes him look self righteous.
The Naomi/Castiel scene was an absolute highlight! I still think Amanda Tapping has been grossly underused so far, but that scene was quite promising. Lol at her getting all up in his face (is it just me, or did she even lift him off the ground at some point?? Poor Cas)
Apart from that, the "angel programming" recitation sounded pretty creepy and scary, I liked that. Btw, what's up with the music, I felt like I was watching a cheap 90s action film? :/
I don't like most of your most likable characters but I agree the brothers have been completely screwed over - not just in bad characterization that wavers from one plot to another but in their actual placement in the story. Secondary characters have been getting better material than the brothers this season. Benny has been the best character in season 8 for me and he is likely to become evil now and one of the brothers will kill him resulting in yet another emoangsty spiral of ugh!
Same, I had a feeling the fairies would make a triumphant return to shock and horror, it turned out to be true. All one can do is shake their head at the choices sometimes.
yes thank you for saying that and that what I am trying to get at you all should know its going to turn bad for benny come on and if it does not it will be really unfair to do that I am sick of the benny love fest because I had one on season 4 with ruby but that did not turn out well.
but what really piss me of is that why could dean let sam meet benny on like that 1st ep? why did dean have to lie AGAIN? pelase tell me that I like to know if he just told sam right away and not LIE AGAIN! this problem would not happen.
Just another thing that is wrong with Sam along with his not looking for Dean. I am hoping the shadow figure has something to do with my Sam not being my Sam this season. I am having a hard time even liking him and that hurts.
all I was trying to say is that just for a litte bit I loved seeing sam happy for once in his life to see that made me happy but like they allways do it got taking away bye the fans who hated it and the writers and to me it suck because amelia was't all that bad to me at lest she cared about him and no one else did. the whole dean/benny breakup was funny because I keeped on calling dean gay because everyone wants him to be and thats funny to me.
Apparently even pointing things out isn't enough here. :). And <3 means heart. As in I <3 being the bad guy. Bwa ha ha ha!!! Keep spreading sunshine, hon. I'll keep shoveling it up. :)). Wait... That's snow. I get confused.
Lie about what? He didn't explain that a monster in Purgatory fought beside him for a year to help in find his way out and in return he helped him get out, too? By the time dean and Sam reunited, Benny was long gone. Remember, as far as we know Dean couldn't get in touch with Sam because he'd turned off all his phones. Dean went to the cabin because it was the only place he knew Sam might be. Sam went there on his own after leaving Amelia. How could Dean have introduced Sam tp Benny when he didn't even know where either of them were?
Likes: Amelia is gone (?), boys drink a beer together
Dislikes: -Horrifically bad dialogue -Horrifically bad pacing (I mean did all of the hardwired info in Alfie need to be said at a snail's pace? Or the dialogue/fight with Naomi, why was everyone talking at half speed in half sentences? Then just when someone starts talking about something useful they immediately switch topic) -Misuse of the awesomeness that is Crowley -Too many boring scenes sitting around waiting for Cas to do everything until they get rid of the sigils and break down a door like Cas's good little helpers -Overabundance of go nowhere angel mythology while not explaining anything and/or ignoring previous mythology (like the fact that Sam and Dean are hidden from angels so how can Cas just pop in wherever they are? and all of a sudden the angel blade kills demons too? Or if angels were all controlled how did Cas get so far off the reservation? Or the complete lack of distinction between angel and vessel) -Heavy-handed messaging and overuse of the both feet in metaphor -Out of place music cues -Any scene or discussion of Amelia or brother fighting and snide underhand comments -Ridiculous plot devices "I'm not at full power", no jump against a wall repeatedly instead of destroying the sigils cause we don't have time to be effectual just hit it real hard stupid
-Did anyone anywhere actually think the existence of an angel tablet was a revelation? That's rhetorical because duh. Building up that payoff was just lame, confirm it fine, but acting like it was the main take home point of the mid-season premiere is either pitiful writing or a pitiful underestimation of the intelligence of your audience -The fullest extent of us progressing on the main story arc for the season was watching a tired Kevin stare at a tablet and whine about how he isn't getting anywhere--yes, Carver you have succeeded in taking your audience to the desert to not enjoy the world we are watching you save (er...destroy)
ALL I AM SAY IS IF DEAN TOLD SAM SOONER OR LET SAM MEET HIM SOONER THEN IT WOULD HAVE BEEN OK BUT NOOOOO! WE HAD DEAN KEEP LIEING AGAIN AND AGAIN AND WAIT FOR 4 EPS TO EVEN DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS OK!
I agree with every word. You analyzed everything perfectly.
Everything up until now has been so predictabile that it's unbelievable.Hell tablet and Heaven tablet . What a surprise! There has been talk about it for weeks on this board.
Then It is so annoying when the writers throw in any old thing, turning upside down what has been done in previous seasons, like the boy's ribs not allowing angels to find them!
I would just add that I'm finding the acting under par too.
Whether this is a choice by the directors, writers or the actors themselves, I don't know but,I remember when a look or a single word could touch me emotionally making me laugh or cry, now it's like watching cardboard figures going through the motions without investing any passion in what they are doing..
Then the the writers are schizophrenic over Castiel's powers. In one epiosde they give him new ones like entering people's heads and doing autopsies by sniffing and then they try to curb them with weak excuses,eg.,' the sigils are still affecting him so he's not at full power,' to be able to give the Winchesters a reason to exist and be useful to the story. Get serious writers!.
X Benny and Amelia have been thrown at us for no reason and now Benny is probably going to go bad and Dean will have to kill him, giving us another dreary 'I have to kill you but I don't want to' emo-angsting moment!
I agree. There is NO way that the Sam I know would not look for Dean. The kick could have left Dean unconscious with amnesia a block away or even a state away. Even if he didn't know he was in Purgatory he could have used a spirit board or ouija board, seance something... Remember that spell that pulled the priest's ghost to him from Houses of the Holy?
Plus Sam knows that Kevin is still alive. How could the Sam I know just abandon a kid to Crowley?
Killing Amy behind Sam's back wasn't exactly placating. To me, Sam's sudden flip in the psychic episode from mad to understanding was Sam moving into Dean's frame of mind. If it is Supernatural and has killed, it will do it again. Sam said over and over, he didn't know Benny... And the writers didn't give Sam a chance to. Benny was a killer before he went to Purgatory. He wants to "be good", but can he?
Amen! I appreciate the fact that Benny wants to be good now, but the majority of his life he was a killer. Amy was not. Sam gave the whole story to Sam and Dean told him that he trusted him, but killed her any way... Sam had someone watch Benny... It was supposed to be just a tracking exercise... Unfortunately a vampire that was killing moved in and messed things up. The evidence looked like Benny was the culprit, but Sam still gave Dean time to look into it. So yes the situations were totally different.
Exactly the whole Benny thing has become annoying . Sam shouldnt have to trust Benny because that is what people want. He got berated by both Dean and fandom for trusting something Supernatural now he is wrong because he isnt trusting something Supernatural and because its Benny and his cuddly and sympathetic what is wrong with Sam.
I dont think Sam has done much wrong where Benny is concerned and if Dean killing Amy has been justified for the reasons they have been by people why then expect that to change where Sam is concerned with Benny .
Right I missing Sam's great epiphany moment in starting to see things in black and white the way Dean use to pre purgatory. Yes I know he says he doesn't know Benny I grant you, but really?
The thing is like it or not some killers do their time and get out of prison. Benny did his time in purgatory - if he kills then fine put him down but why exactly doesn't he deserve the same chance that Sam was happy to give Kate the werewolf only a couple of episodes before? It wasn't the last season so you could say Sam now just wants to get the job done so isn't overthinking things so he can go back to a new life, or he has had time to hate things blah, blah, blah. It was a the thing it was a couple of episodes before he found out about Benny.
Was her student film in which she did actually kill someone that convincing that animal hearts were the only thing going to be the thing she was chowing down on?
I'm not saying Sam has to go line dancing with Benny, he can be cautious and suspicious but right now his actions are now coming off as irrational and boarding real jealousy.
I did want to feel like Dean dumping Benny was to do with Kevin's speech but considering the whole ultimatum and Sam having to give up Amelia it came off as the writers evening the score for the boys and Dean placating Sam rather than anything else.
Liked it a lot. Not that it magically resolved anything I suppose we will see the brothers fighting again pretty soon, since the issues of season 8 (Why Sam didn't look for Dean, the Dean / Benny confrontation, the Sam/Amelia confrontation) haven't been even talked about properly, but at least they decided to stick together and hunt together. That's more then we had last episode, and its hopefully a start in our little drama show, that will never ever be your next best idiotic soap dreamland, but full of depressed people hunting monsters, saving people....doing the family business... and I wouldn't want it to be any other way.
So I just hope Carver doesn't think viewers will forget about these 3 season 8 issues and that we get decent answers.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I didn't like the bro fighting but it would make no sense to see them happy nd hugging right at the beginning, at least they both chose each other :) No that I doubt it. FINALLY the first big step taken in the right direction
ReplyDeleteBoth Cass and Alfie....
I loved this episode :)
I loved it! So glad Cas had enough of the boys' shit and got them back together. And whoa, he did not look good at the end.
ReplyDeleteNooooooooooooooooooo, Alfie.
Awesome episode!
Man, that was solid but depressing. Interesting characters got hung out to dry. Next week's episode looks pretty creampuff. Hopefully some of the upcoming episodes will have the sort of performances tonight's did.
ReplyDeleteSo sad about Samandriel.....
ReplyDeleteI hope that's the last we see of Amelia.
ReplyDeleteMan. That was friggin horrible. Everybody has a stick up their ass. Except for Alfie. His were all in his head.
ReplyDeleteIt didn't even seem like they chose each other. It seems like they accepted the job at hand was more important than people who needed them.
ReplyDelete1.That bitch Naomi has to die NOW.Bloodly.
ReplyDelete2.RIP Alfie :'(
3.Crowley better not get his hands on the angel tablet soon or the angels are screwed big time.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't formed an opinion on Amelia.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the Sam/Amelia thing is over.
First .... A minute's silence by the cute Alfie.
ReplyDeleteTwo ..... Was one of the best episodes of this wonderful Season 8
Three ............... What the are doing with Cas #@$¨%*&%@!#$
Four ... .... The Benny don't make b***S**t
EVERYTHING HURTS
ReplyDeleteIf everyone would've been hugging each other and loving and all, you and everyone else would've complain, with every reason to do so, that it doesn't make any sense considering where they left in the last episode (and considering all the rest of the season). If wouldn't make sense either to just jump X months/weeks in the futur where everyone is happy with a line ''hey you remember when we started talking 2 weeks ago?''
ReplyDeleteI wasn't fan of the bro fighting at the beginning and the tension, but it needed to be done.
You and me both, what a 2 timing shrew.
ReplyDeleteIt was good.
ReplyDelete..Ugh..again..Poor Cas.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Naomi is going to be the big bad, she can give Crowley a run for his money..what a bitch.
I think overall it was a very well done episode.
ReplyDeleteI'm just stunned that that's where they're leaving things with Cas.
ReplyDeleteAnd next week is the Ren Faire. Wheee!
I hope it's not the last we see of Benny and Amelia! Things feel very unresolved with both of them.
ReplyDeleteHow do you want to get push forward with the myth arc with the boys fighting all the time? They need to be together to get the job done and they needed to cup the crap to do it.
ReplyDeleteFive actually thought it was awful? Really. lol I am worried about Cas. I loved this
ReplyDeleteMegan, I agree with you and I am not understanding ScottA at all. I like what happened tonight.
ReplyDeleteReally good episode but oh no! Samandriel!
ReplyDeleteNaomi needs to die a painful death.
ReplyDeleteI wish Sam's choice was less because he needs to do the hunt, and more because he wants to hunt with Dean, like in older seasons, but I'll take what they gave.
I'm teetering on "get the heck on with it."
Also getting tired of Sam & Dean guest starring in the episode, with no central storyline for both in sight for eons. Carver is still better, so far, but I've got my left foot in disenchantment now.
Now that was an amazing episode. A great step in the right direction for Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteVERY SAD THOUGH.
ReplyDeletewe'll see benny again i bet but with amelia i feel the opposite. She realized he's done and he is. I dont think we'll see her again and that fine since they closed it.
ReplyDeleteI agree with all of this except the Benny part! Then again, I <3 Benny and pang for what he's going through and want to see more of him without it being him getting killed. But, everything else? Oh yeah, I'm right there with you. Naomi=DIE NOW, Alfie=Awww... :( :( Cas: OMG CAS! :(
ReplyDeleteAhem.
And the boys at the end... Bloody frigging perfect. Was a very touching moment set to the perfect music. Made me think of the Christmas episode.
Well, I thought the angel part was really well done. Cas stole the show, and Samdriel, Crowley and Naomi were great. The rest felt off.
ReplyDeleteI'm still not feeling Amelia as an insta-love, and Benny as an insta-brother.
ScottA is just being one of those 'nothing will ever make me happy unless everything is the way I want it' fans atm.
ReplyDeleteI have always been a fan of both brothers, but this season the Sam they are giving us has made me not like him very much.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat's weirdest to me, is that I understand a couple of changes to Sam's characterization to accomodate the Amelia storyline, wanting to give Sam a reason not to look for Dean. But it seems like several character changes happened this season - in particular, the kind of creepy, unforgiving attitude he has towards Benny.
ReplyDeleteSam has always let people prove themselves, and this season, this hatred of Benny comes off as petty spite because Dean trusts him. That just doesn't fit with past Sam. He would mistrust at first, yes, but give him a chance to prove, or at least trust some of what Dean has said. It is so OTT Soap Opera-ish, just ugh.
Now that I've marinated in it, does anyone else feel this one was unnecessarily cruel and miserable?
ReplyDeleteTime to move on, amazing episode one of my favorite of season 8 so far. The last scene was sad, but powerful. Winchester are back and work together.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the Sam problem. His Benny attitude is OOC for sure, and it's very hard to avoid the ethical problem that Sam would be the secondary cause of Benny's fall.
ReplyDeleteYeah, thinking about it.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry, but what was the last scene? Unfortunately, I couldn't finish watching the episode...
ReplyDeleteI agree totally. :)
ReplyDeleteHa! How dare you say bad things, Scott! :) I like them with sticks up their asses. It's better than moping around over bitchy women. :)
ReplyDeletedid anybody forget the amy thing I just want to know? because I am going to keep bring that up OK! this is just really unfair this show is unfair.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, this is the end of the sibling whinging.
ReplyDeleteBeyond that I rather liked the ep...they finally gave me something, on the arc story, that I found interesting.
Montage of Benny sitting alone. Amelia showing up to the empty motel room and Sam bringing Dean dinner.
ReplyDeleteThe brothers eat while sitting on the couch watching boxing. No words are said but they both look at each other to remind us that they are uncomfortable with each other and that things are not close to being over.
ReplyDeleteHa! I voted poor. Its redeeming factor was the angel tablet. Glad they finally revealed what we expected all along. Now to find the thing and close the heaven gate.
ReplyDeletewell I hope you are all happy another lame-ass reason to get the guys back together and I so sick of it I want to gag. You know I just sick thats it god next week better be funny so I can start have fun with the show again. it breaks my heart to see that no one wants anybody to be a litte bit happy on this show and that really does suck you know but I guess this is not that kind of show.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteWow, that sounds just...I feel awkward just reading it. But I guess, if anyone can pull of saying a thousand words without actually saying anything, it's Jared and Jensen.
Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI heard Dean made a call. Poor Benny. I...I've really taken a liking to him.
I want Sam to be happy but he isnr going to be either way. Staying with Amelia which is a relationship that the show never really convinced alot of people of and did very little for Sam or Dean the brother he has a strained relationship with in a life deep down he really doesnt want.
ReplyDeleteThe whole exercise has been pointless because he was going to chose Dean because the premise of the show is those two hunting .
i agree with u it was a wonderful episode and its good to see Dean being ok with Sam moving on if he wants to and i'm glad Sam chose to stay and Cas we'll see how tht gets solved
ReplyDeleteAnother average episode for a very average season.
ReplyDeleteThis episode felt very disorganized in its storytelling. I'm not liking this whole Heaven-reprogramming angels storyline, but maybe that's supposed to be the case since they are messing with Castiel and I don't really know this new chick. Amelia thing just seems like what was the point of it if it just ended like that. And Benny, well I never really cared for Benny.
So the most likable characters this season are Castiel, Garth, Samandriel, Kevin, and Kevin's mom.
ReplyDeleteSam and Dean have been getting completely screwed by the writers this season. Their characters haven't been consistent since Kripke left.
ReplyDeleteThe only bits I liked this week with the brothers was Dean and Cas.
He can stay gone if we actually got some resolution on Sam's irrational distrust. I still don't get why Sam hates the guy when he let others go and I still don't get why Dean didn't give Sam the whole story about what happened with Martin.
ReplyDeleteIf Dean has to apologise for the text I need some mea culpa from Sam with regard to his actions in the last episode.
Until then Benny (who I actually like) has become as pointless as Amelia with possibly the exception that this time it is Dean is the one doing the abandoning rather than others abandoning him - for what a somewhat semi toxic relationship with his brother? Because truce or not it ain't healthy for either of them right now.
Love the word shrew. It brings a definite non-likable quality to whom it describes.
ReplyDeleteBut what about the shadowy figure? Will that remain a mystery?
So now Sam can add being an adulterer to his long list of "Sins"!
ReplyDeleteX
One last boring fling with the unpleasant Amelia, thus leaving everything open for her to come along and say that she is pregnant, but big mystery.........who is the child's father, Don or Sam?
ReplyDeleteMan, I should have hidden my keyboard yesterday. 20 hours of writing coming off another "cycle" of my spine giving me all sorts of trouble. I quit sleeping at 3 am today and am trying damage control.
ReplyDeleteI'm blaming last night's poor effort on my part on Alfie's continual high-pitched screaming.
ReplyDeleteThought about your query about Crowley knowing Enochian. Probably late with this but I think he had to learn it to ward his house and hideouts.
Now I know why I disliked Amelia so much. She looks like someone from long ago that I was very lucky getting out of the way of.
Hoping next week is better for me.
Kevin. Or in this case, Kevin and Alfie. That's all. No brothers needed this time.
ReplyDeleteI understand you, Jen. (OK to call you Jen?) Was up way too long under difficult circumstances to have been operating a keyboard.
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on the relationship.
Yes. And I've been taking my beating for my bluntness.
ReplyDeleteDuring the show I kept talking out loud "I am sick of all this brother fighting ....knock it off" When Dean said that he was tired of the fighting I shouted a big AMEN!
ReplyDeleteBig difference to when they sat on the couch together in AVSC, there too without words but with their brotherly love enveloping them both, warming their hearts and those of the viewers.
ReplyDeleteI gave it an OK.
ReplyDeleteAnyway...an OK eppy for me. Just dragged too much. And I do wonder though, we still never found out about the 'person' outside of Amelia/Sam's place in ep 1. I'm assuming we'll find out who that was at some point.
I think Dean has been the same, but they sure wrote Sam badly, to get on my soapbox again, Sam would never have NOT looked for Dean.
ReplyDeleteThinking about it some more, I guess Sam was reacting to the "Benny's a better brother than you" stuff, and Dean doing something that would hurt Sam to save Benny, but it still needed more clarification. If the ultimatum was about Dean's actions and attitude, that needed to be said.
ReplyDeleteNothing about Sam this season seems real to me, his needing companionship badly enough to get with bitchy Amelia?? His not looking for Dean? His feelings toward Benny? Nothing. This is not the Sam I love and I am having a hard time feeling any love for him at all.
ReplyDeleteAmy and Benny two very different problems..Amy was killing, so far Benny has not. Sam let a whole nest of vampires go.
ReplyDeleteI think there must be a group of people that go to all the sites and pick awful, some people you can not please no matter what you do. ;)
ReplyDeleteI think Dean and Benny had an understanding before they got out, that they were going their own ways. Dean has mentioned it several times.."like we talked about". I do think Benny will be back and hopefully not in a killing someone way. I don't want Dean to have to kill him, it would give Sam to much pleasure.
ReplyDeleteI have wondered about that figure also, maybe he will fit in with what is wrong with Sam, hey I am looking for anything to explain Sam not looking for Dean. lol Any port in a storm.
ReplyDeleteI thought the shadowy figure was Don
ReplyDeleteThey were different.
ReplyDeleteWhile there's a lot we don't know about Benny's background, if he was turned into a vamp in the 1800s (not sure where I heard that so it could be wrong), and didn't stop killing until the early 1960s when he met a girl, was killed, and sent to Purgatory, he could have a body count that makes Jeffrey Dahmer look like a boy scout. His motivation for not killing was someone he loved, but without a crutch, he's vunerable and a threat.
So I agree - two different situations.
I liked the Dean and Benny banter as well.
ReplyDeleteFelt that Sam's lines were way over the top tonight "words can never cover how I feel about you" yuck! Did Sam get sucked into a Romance Novel tonight?
Well it was rather obvious that there would be one. No surprises there. :)
ReplyDeleteActually there haven't been any surprises up to now.
A big surprise would be to see the brothers smiling, as this whole season has been so depressing.
The torture of poor Samandiel was far too long and drawn out but maybe that was just to take up a few more minutes of the episode as I don't think the writers have a clue even on how to fill up the 40 minutes.
So the big question - are we going to see the dog again???
ReplyDeleteBest post on the thread. At least he was in character. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, actually, seeking out a vet to snuggle with may have been a little out of character. ;)
ReplyDeleteMaybe like the dog in that upcoming episode. What was it? The human form of the dog girlfriend or something? Can't quite remember how it went! :)
ReplyDeleteYou know I had the thought that "these horror writers are trying to write love". And they are not faring well.
ReplyDeleteThat definitely could be.
ReplyDeleteGood comment. I think this has been one of the biggest problems of the Amelia storyline.
ReplyDeleteI don't want Dean to kill Benny either, it hurt that both Dean and benny were both cut up about Dean dumping his friend even though they were calm and reasonable about it and even with their prior agreement.
ReplyDeletebut still the only reason I got that Dean did it was so at some point Benny doesn't become a bone of contention with Sam again. it feels like everything has been set up to placate Sam - yet again. Why Carver Why???
Didn't Dean break with Benny before he knew Sam was staying? But of course we have to keep Sam calm. lol
ReplyDeleteYeah he did, but it still felt like Dean was doing it to placate Sam. Maybe he was preparing for Sam to leave but with Sam's earlier ultimatium he thought if he kept in contact with Benny, Sam would cut off all contact with him.
ReplyDeleteSad isn't it if that is the case - where did self assured post purgatory Dean go? he seems to have become as pathetic and needy as Amelia is.
Sam is already being blamed for Martin's actions and death. Now, when Benny starts killing, Sam will be blamed for that too because he "forced" Dean to choose, thus leaving Benny without any support. I can see the Sam hate already.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It took me out of the story cause I was thinking about the effort the actor had to go through just to keep screaming.
ReplyDeleteYou have every right to express your opinion without being labeled as a negative poster. Probably, one of the newbies to the site.
ReplyDeleteYes, there was just too much. Then the poor angel didn't stand a chance.
ReplyDeleteWhen Dean tortured Alastair, the demon practically gave back as good as he got and although it was hurtful to watch, it was a duel between equals, but poor Samandriel just got slaughtered and then of course Castiel/Naomi finished him off.
Poor thing,he was so sweet.
Will we ever know the identity of the shadowy figure? Since that would mean showing some interest in Sam and it would be a return to the Amelia story, I doubt it.
ReplyDeleteI hope so!!!
ReplyDeleteDean needs to break down, so Sam can too and at the same time came back to be what they are ^^
ReplyDeleteFor me, it was the brother rift that smelled lame-ass. After where they were since the end of Point of No Return in S5, to 8-1, the fighting was ridiculously artificial, done for weak writing drama.
ReplyDeleteBut that would make Sam seem vindictive, wanting Benny killed in revenge for Amy. And the old Sam just wasn't that way - just the opposite.
ReplyDeleteBut the thing is that Sam's hate of Benny started well before he found out any of that out, if he has actually found out any of that - because on screen he doesn't seem to want to know a lot about Benny spelled out other than he is a vampire.
ReplyDeleteSo it comes off as irrational, it comes off as petty against Dean rather than seeing Benny as an actual threat and as for his reaction to the monsters he has let go in the past it compared to Benny it comes off as Sam only trusting the cute and pretty monsters while not being willing to do the same to the one who in his own words hasn't always been cute and fluffy.
That is my problem with it.
Yep for once I completely agree with you.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a great epi. I started off like it was going to be slow but really whipped around and ended well. Love Cas telling Sam and Dean to "Stow their crap".
ReplyDeletelol Yeah I rewatched it and the looks they give each other at the end were pretty miserable. Is this really where Carver & Sons want to take the brother relationship? No one in their lives and miserable as sin when together. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteThe thing is Dean hid Benny from Sam.
ReplyDeleteSam didn't have a hard on to kill Benny, he just wanted to make certain Benny wasn't going to come back and bit Dean in the butt.
Have to agree with you there.
ReplyDeleteBut Sam didn't know anything about Benny because Dean refused to talk about him.
ReplyDeleteIn some ways it is the same.
ReplyDeleteIf Dean can say you were too close to Amy to see the situation clearly, then Sam can say the same about Benny and not be petty or vindictive or anything other than a hunter taking out a vampire when people are dying.
I usually just try to analyze and most people understand. But this fandom is a very passionate group. That's half the fun; seeing all the spirited banter and how some people can love an episode while someone else hates it. i think it makes for great interaction.
ReplyDeleteBUT just like you said, it happens.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to be on the same wave-length now and then. :)
ReplyDeleteWhy would you put that out there? Just when I thought the soap opera portion of this show was closed, you go and write such a thing. Now, my stomach is in knots. Shudder to think.
ReplyDeleteWell. It's something that could happen . :(
ReplyDeleteShe obviously has been to bed with Don and she then has this last fling with Sam.
ReplyDeleteThat's a distinct possibility. Maybe they plan on doing something with him, but that would mean Amelia would be back and I dont think I can live through Soapurnatural again.
ReplyDeleteYou either need more drugs or fewer. :) I think I can guess which way you're leaning. Learn to share.
ReplyDeleteWow! I think I got labeled as one of your attackers. :) engarde! ;)
ReplyDeleteWow, you and I got a whole different take on all that.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, you are correct, the first time Sam saw Benny was with Dean after he and Benny killed the vampire nest.
ReplyDeleteHey, I took French in high school. And German in college. And I know a girl on a Fencing scholarship at Notre Dame. But she won't talk to me now. Wonder why???
ReplyDeleteIt took me a while to figure out the symbolistic language Twitter has created.
OOPS.
I may try sprinkling them on my food. Like Sensa. I'll call it Senseless. Ha!
ReplyDeleteWhen Sam found out the argument at the Impala Sam asked if Benny had told Dean he wasn't live feeding and Dean said yes and Sam was dismissive which didn't exactly engender anyone to open up and talk.
ReplyDeleteMy current theory is that everyone in the Supernatural writers' room needs to get a good therapist so they don't take out all their issues on us.
ReplyDeleteAnd Sam didn't say he he would go with Dean or that he would push to investigate the idea of Desmond - he went directly to Benny's camp with Martin after he knocked Dean out.
ReplyDeleteIt the idea is as you said then I think the actual execution just like Amelia has fallen down flat.
Poor Cas)
ReplyDeleteApart from that, the "angel programming" recitation sounded pretty creepy and scary, I liked that.
ReplyDeleteWhen Dean said that my Twitter response was: " Dean, you are tired of the fighting? Come live in my world this season."
ReplyDeleteSame, I had a feeling the fairies would make a triumphant return to shock and horror, it turned out to be true. All one can do is shake their head at the choices sometimes.
ReplyDeleteyes thank you for saying that and that what I am trying to get at you all should know its going to turn bad for benny come on and if it does not it will be really unfair to do that I am sick of the benny love fest because I had one on season 4 with ruby but that did not turn out well.
ReplyDeletebut what really piss me of is that why could dean let sam meet benny on like that 1st ep? why did dean have to lie AGAIN? pelase tell me that I like to know if he just told sam right away and not LIE AGAIN! this problem would not happen.
ReplyDeleteJust another thing that is wrong with Sam along with his not looking for Dean. I am hoping the shadow figure has something to do with my Sam not being my Sam this season. I am having a hard time even liking him and that hurts.
ReplyDeleteall I was trying to say is that just for a litte bit I loved seeing sam happy for once in his life to see that made me happy but like they allways do it got taking away bye the fans who hated it and the writers and to me it suck because amelia was't all that bad to me at lest she cared about him and no one else did. the whole dean/benny breakup was funny because I keeped on calling dean gay because everyone wants him to be and thats funny to me.
ReplyDeleteApparently even pointing things out isn't enough here. :). And <3 means heart. As in I <3 being the bad guy. Bwa ha ha ha!!! Keep spreading sunshine, hon. I'll keep shoveling it up. :)). Wait... That's snow. I get confused.
ReplyDeleteNo little red heart? Then forget it! It's no fun if you don't have a target. :)
ReplyDeleteLie about what? He didn't explain that a monster in Purgatory fought beside him for a year to help in find his way out and in return he helped him get out, too? By the time dean and Sam reunited, Benny was long gone. Remember, as far as we know Dean couldn't get in touch with Sam because he'd turned off all his phones. Dean went to the cabin because it was the only place he knew Sam might be. Sam went there on his own after leaving Amelia. How could Dean have introduced Sam tp Benny when he didn't even know where either of them were?
ReplyDeleteThat could actually be a very good stand off. As long as Kevin is firmly on the Winchesters side. :)
ReplyDeleteWell, if Dean keeps leading the conversations with Kevin...that coule be questionable. :-)
ReplyDeleteLikes: Amelia is gone (?), boys drink a beer together
ReplyDeleteDislikes:
-Horrifically bad dialogue
-Horrifically bad pacing (I mean did all of the hardwired info in Alfie need to be said at a snail's pace? Or the dialogue/fight with Naomi, why was everyone talking at half speed in half sentences? Then just when someone starts talking about something useful they immediately switch topic)
-Misuse of the awesomeness that is Crowley
-Too many boring scenes sitting around waiting for Cas to do everything until they get rid of the sigils and break down a door like Cas's good little helpers
-Overabundance of go nowhere angel mythology while not explaining anything and/or ignoring previous mythology (like the fact that Sam and Dean are hidden from angels so how can Cas just pop in wherever they are? and all of a sudden the angel blade kills demons too? Or if angels were all controlled how did Cas get so far off the reservation? Or the complete lack of distinction between angel and vessel)
-Heavy-handed messaging and overuse of the both feet in metaphor
-Out of place music cues
-Any scene or discussion of Amelia or brother fighting and snide underhand comments
-Ridiculous plot devices "I'm not at full power", no jump against a wall repeatedly instead of destroying the sigils cause we don't have time to be effectual just hit it real hard stupid
-Did anyone anywhere actually think the existence of an angel tablet was a revelation? That's rhetorical because duh. Building up that payoff was just lame, confirm it fine, but acting like it was the main take home point of the mid-season premiere is either pitiful writing or a pitiful underestimation of the intelligence of your audience
-The fullest extent of us progressing on the main story arc for the season was watching a tired Kevin stare at a tablet and whine about how he isn't getting anywhere--yes, Carver you have succeeded in taking your audience to the desert to not enjoy the world we are watching you save (er...destroy)
ReplyDeleteI agree with every word. You analyzed everything perfectly.
ReplyDeleteEverything up until now has been so predictabile that it's unbelievable.Hell tablet and Heaven tablet .
X
Benny and Amelia have been thrown at us for no reason and now Benny is probably going to go bad and Dean will have to kill him, giving us another dreary 'I have to kill you but I don't want to' emo-angsting moment!
ReplyDeletePlus Sam knows that Kevin is still alive.
ReplyDeleteAmen!
ReplyDeleteExactly the whole Benny thing has become annoying . Sam shouldnt have to trust Benny because that is what people want. He got berated by both Dean and fandom for trusting something Supernatural now he is wrong because he isnt trusting something Supernatural and because its Benny and his cuddly and sympathetic what is wrong with Sam.
ReplyDeleteI dont think Sam has done much wrong where Benny is concerned and if Dean killing Amy has been justified for the reasons they have been by people why then expect that to change where Sam is concerned with Benny .
Right I missing Sam's great epiphany moment in starting to see things in black and white the way Dean use to pre purgatory. Yes I know he says he doesn't know Benny I grant you, but really?
ReplyDeleteThe thing is like it or not some killers do their time and get out of prison.
ReplyDeleteNot that it magically resolved anything I suppose we will see the brothers fighting again pretty soon, since the issues of season 8 (Why Sam didn't look for Dean, the Dean / Benny confrontation, the Sam/Amelia confrontation) haven't been even talked about properly, but at least they decided to stick together and hunt together.
Woah! Turn your cap lock if you want to be taken seriously!! :) I get it. As far as you're concerned all conflicts are Dean's fault. Duly noted.
