Poll: Favorite Scene from Supernatural - 8.11 - LARP and the Real Girl
Jan 25, 2013
Polls SupernaturalEdited to explain....For me a scene is all the action that takes place in one setting before they move the camera to a different setting. Quite frankly, a lot of things I love best are the moments and lines that make up a scene. For this episode, the scenes were fairly long without the constant camera change-ups that have been Supernatural's style for the last 3 years. That's why there are fewer but longer scenes in this episode than the last one. I agree that many times it's the moments instead of the scenes that really make my day but a favorite moments poll would be way too long and complex. Sorry. In lieu of a moments poll, there is always the "other" option. I will however post a quotes article tomorrow, which definitely gets more specific, and I would love to hear your favorites too. This episode had a ton of quotable quips.

Belladonna. The Porn star????
ReplyDeleteI confess I loathe Braveheart so the ending scene didn't do it for me like it did most people. This episode was filled with great moments though so it makes it hard for me to pick a favorite scene. My favorite character was the sheriff but he's so minor I would feel strange voting for the scene just because he was in it. He's definitely getting best quote of the episode though. Jerry calling the brothers out on the fake ids was priceless but he was too much of a delusional schmuk for me to vote for his scene. In the end I think I'm choosing the Charlie freak out (pre-Dean getting suited up of course.)
ReplyDeleteDean smiling to himself when Sam tells Garth they don't want to be "Garthed" anymore.
ReplyDeleteThat was pretty darn good.
ReplyDeleteDean and Sam cosplay, complete with Braveheart speech and Dean and Charlie talk heroes and get answers about the victims.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to be high on my favorite quotes list I'll post tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's two different scenes because it takes place in two different settings and actually has a time jump in between it. I'm going by my definition of scene when I taught drama and directed middle school plays. I agree that the two scenes were tied together and impacted each other so that you couldn't really have one without the other.
ReplyDeleteCosplay is going to be the definite winner if my predictions are right. Everyone I talked with was loving that scene when the episode ended.
ReplyDeleteBraveheart speech was awesome but I LOVED the sheriff in this episode!
ReplyDeleteMe too. He had Crowley-level snarkiness. He reminded me a lot of my other favorite one-off sheriff on this show, the one in Bloodlust.
ReplyDeleteThere was a lot to love in this episode. Just pure fun.
ReplyDeleteDean had a lot of little reactions that were priceless in this episode. Sorry though, "Garthed" is going to be in my eye-rolling list for the quotes.
ReplyDeleteI see I am not alone in loving Braveheart, that was so much fun, loved all of it.
ReplyDeleteI loved when Dean strategizing the Moondoor game to Charlie (with bonus epic Sam bitchface) because it was a subtle reminder that Dean was trained by John who was a Marine in Viet Nam, so it's cool to see Dean picked up military strategy through him and his own experiences fighting.
ReplyDeleteok I read alot into that scene, but you take what you can get.
best part ever the end dean's braveheart thing makes me like him alitte more now but it was great to see them have alitte fun.
ReplyDeleteI read the same thing into that scene. It was the re-emergence of smart Dean and showcasing skills they rarely let him use. Plus I loved when Dean and Charlie have that mini-silent conversation about the battle strategy while Sam is expositing the case.
ReplyDelete''Is there a thing such as Monstermagnet?''
ReplyDeleteIt would have been nice if they got the scheduling that they had a little nod to Dean's birthday in the talk.
ReplyDeleteI got the same thing and it was my second favorite scene. Just thought it was cute moving the tank while Sam was talking.
ReplyDeleteI lked the Sam /Dean chat at the end where Dean asks about fun and Sam agrees to take part in the larp.:)
ReplyDeleteSam is not a stick in the mud. He has always given as good as he has gotten in the prank wars with Dean and he has always been depicted as more of a geek than Dean.
He knew about Harry Potter etc. so there is no reason he wouldn't have enjoyed the larp as much as Dean.
The illogical things are the previous episodes up until this one, which have been really bad, IMO.

There were a lot of nice moments between the brothers and the ep is to be praised for that, but there were some that the writers could have spared us. I loathe it when they themselves encourage the brother hate!
>>He knew about Harry Potter etc. so there is no reason he wouldn't have enjoyed the larp as much as Dean.<<
ReplyDeleteI didn't get that, either. I could've easily have seen Sam getting into that whole world, long before Dean. To me, swapping them in that episode would've made more sense. But then that would've meant sticking Dean through the Gateway to the Future. He probably would've taken five minutes to nail the Elf girl though. Or whatever she was supposed to be.
I really disliked this episode, not liking Charlie/Felicia Day aside. It just did not make me laugh in the least. Canon tossed aside for fairies - and I didn't like that episode either - and not surprising the guest star was the center of attention again because of who she is. The best part for me? Seeing that glimpse of Varric from Dragon Age II on a computer screen in the tech tent. Saved it from being a complete BOMB.
ReplyDeletePretty sure he was moving a catapult.
ReplyDeleteI think "Garth'd" was supposed to be eye-roll worthy though. Like most of the little Garth'd words. Sorta like how everything is "Chang'd" on Community.
ReplyDeleteI have been nothing but negative about this season from the word go, so in the context of the season, this episode was a happier one.
ReplyDeleteI have only ever watched the previous episodes once and I have no wish to watch them again. This is the only one that I could give a second viewing to, however that doesn't make it a good episode .
It had all the details that made the previous episodes unlikeable to me; the lines thrown in to encourage brother hating; the lack of explanation of why Sam didn't look for his brother; the reminder of the ridiculous wet-rag Amelia story where the last thing I could see was any true sentiment betwen Sam and Amelia, so I don't get how Sam could be pining for something that just didn't exist except in the imagination of the writers.
But I have been more lenient with the ep because finally the brothers were smiling.

It's true that Sam would have been better suited to the dressing up geek part of the story-line as he has always been the one portrayed as nerdy but this season it's Dean whom the writers have taken under their wing and are pushing to the fore-front.

However taken down to the bare bones, it was just a filler episode for the boys to get to 'dress-up' and to showcase Charlie. The MOTW was practically non-existent and the turning of SPN from the intelligent little horror show it was to a campy soapernatural clone of itself is still in course!
LOL, of course it was, I did not pause the scene, but catapult makes lots more sense. ;)
ReplyDeleteWould've been awesome if they had a tank. Probably during mashup weekends, though. :D
