Epic casting team for the win! (not to forget that the wardrobe and make-up departments deserve just as much praise) If they get Bailee, Ginnie and Rena to stand in a row, it will be like one of those Darwin human evolution charts, lol. That's equally spooky and brilliant. :D
I know, the resemblance is just incredible. I know there's only so many stories they can set in Snow's past, but I hope to see her in a lot more episodes. Maybe if the show goes on for five or six years, she can play Snow as a teenager.
Ummm, I think seeing any more Regina/Leopold might scar me for life. :/ I don't think I could have a lower opinion of Leopold as it is, I don't need more reasons to hate him.
He needed a nanny for Snow, but instead of making Regina a lady in waiting, he decided to take her for his wife. He knew she didn't love him, but he didn't care. He didn't mind the fact that Regina was unhappy, but he demanded that she be a loyal wife (even though he obviously only talked about his ex-wife). He sentenced a poor young girl to a life of slavery and imprisonment in a golden cage. In my books, he had it coming.
I just think they need to give us an explanation. Lots of evil regals hate Leopold, whereas lots of other people just don't give a damn about him and/or think Regina had the guy murdered just cause she is oh so bad. But this is all because we don't know anything about him. He's Snow's father, he married Regina, he died. End of his story. We know he never loved Regina and married her because she cared about Snow, but the question is: why? Why did he need a wife? Why didn't he just hired a nanny? Did he ever even tried to love Regina? Did he want/need other children? Why did she never get pregnant? There are pretty much endless questions to be answered and nobody but evil regals seem to give a damn about it. I wish the writers understand we need some more background or Leopold will be one of those gigantic plot holes who will haunt the show forever.
I don't really perceive this as a plot hole. I think we've seen enough in 1x11 and 1x18 to infer his motives and his attitude. And I think he makes sense as a character. He is presented as a loving father, a heartbroken widower, and a kind and generous king, but if you dig a little deeper, you realize he is borderline obsessed with his daughter and his first wife, and that underneath the surface of a kind man is a jealous husband who treated Regina as his property and nothing more. And anything short of Cora blackmailing him into marrying Regina does not excuse him.
But if we do get more Regina/Leopold backstory, it can serve one of two purposes: to lay more blame on Regina, or to lay more blame on Leopold. In the first case, we'll get a portion of the usual "the Evil Queen was truly evil and she manipulated Leopold", in the second we'll get more of the "Regina was a victim of abuse" storyline. Either way, I'd rather they didn't go there.
Wow, Rena Sofer, as Queen Eva, looks a lot like Ginnifer, as Snow! Great familial similarity between child Snow, adult Snow, and her mother! Great job casting, finding people who look plausibly like family AND can act! That actress, Bailey?, looks more like pre-teen/teen Snow rather than a child Snow. Doesn't she look like she grew a bit since the last time we saw her? I know they like the actress for the physical similarities, acting, & even mannerisms that're similar to Ginnifer, but she looks older in these scenes with her mother, than those first scenes she shared with Regina. Maybe I won't notice it as much once I see those flashback scenes. If I'm right, they'll have to stop the child memory scenes and go to teenage years soon... ;)
Beautiful dresses! This show has awesome costumes. The princess/royalty gowns are always so intricate and beautiful! I wish the show had a shop on ABC.com or something so viewers can purchase these dresses. 'Cause I totally want one. I'd like wear a gorgeous gown like this for Halloween, or a costume party, etc. Also, if Snow's mom (Queen Eva?) really did die from something done to her (i.e., poison, etc.), then Snow's parents both would have died from assassination. That poor family! :( FTL is so whacked! It's totally not as happy as I thought it'd be!
Well, she's supposed to have a connection to somebody we know...Cora does seem the most likely option. It could all have been part of her plan to get Regina to marry the king. Somehow, I have a hard time believing that it didn't start long before that little riding accident she arranged.
What I'll be interested to find out in the long run is why Cora didn't simply achieve everything she wanted in life for herself instead of apparently falling short and then living vicariously through her daughter.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Rena looks like she's channelling Elizabeth McGovern here. Of course, now the question: did Cora poison her or magic her sick?
ReplyDeleteStunning dresses! I cannot wait for this episode. Bailee Madison blows my mind on how much she acts and looks like Ginny Goodwin.
ReplyDeleteMe too! It's has to be one of the BEST casting matches in the world! :D
ReplyDeleteThat's right. This girl is fantastic.

I wonder the same!
ReplyDeleteOne thing's for sure, either Cora or Rumple had something to do with the Queen's passing.
ReplyDeleteAnd who can act so well!
ReplyDeleteI know, the resemblance is just incredible. I know there's only so many stories they can set in Snow's past, but I hope to see her in a lot more episodes. Maybe if the show goes on for five or six years, she can play Snow as a teenager.
ReplyDeleteWhy not both? I wouldn't put it pass them, making a deal/plan to kill the queen.
ReplyDeleteThey didn't bother to make Snow look any younger than she did in 'Stable Boy.' Nice to know Leopold didn't waste any time finding another wife.
ReplyDeleteThere's not much I would past the two of them, so it's definitely an option...
ReplyDeleteYeah... I was wondering about that. They must give us some more Regina/Leopold, please!
ReplyDeleteWould you mind editing the post with a link to the original TV Guide post?
ReplyDeleteSnow being 12 makes her pretty much on the cusp of that already.
ReplyDeleteBut everybody looks for teenage wives for their pre-teen daughters!
ReplyDeleteUmmm, I think seeing any more Regina/Leopold might scar me for life. :/ I don't think I could have a lower opinion of Leopold as it is, I don't need more reasons to hate him.

Yeah, but I meant in the later teens.
ReplyDeleteI doubt it, considering they used Jennifer to play 16/17 and Lana to play 18.
ReplyDeleteMe too. If I don't get to see baby Regina or at least toddler Regina in Rumple's arms I am going to be seriously disappointed.

I wanna see a pic of Ginny and Bailee they've gotta have one they are prob filming around the same times.

Ooh, maybe Cora killed Eva or something like that?
ReplyDeleteAnd it's most likely the dress, but Eva looks pregnant in the scene where she and Snow are just standing.
Can't wait for this episode!
Every time I see young Snow I wonder how the heck they found a kid who looks JUST LIKE Ginnifer!
ReplyDeleteYeah the resemblance is just uncanny. Really a great casting job.

Speaking of Cora, I can't wait to see young Cora. And desperately hoping for a baby Regina.
ReplyDeleteTrue.
