Disney and Johnny Depp may be getting ready to set sail again as the Mouse House has tapped "Catch Me if You Can" scribe Jeff Nathanson to pen "Pirates of the Caribbean 5."
Jerry Bruckheimer is producing with Depp set to return as Captain Jack Sparrow.
Plot details are unknown, and it's not clear whether thesps from past installments, like Geoffrey Rush or Keira Knightley, would return to reprise their roles.
Though Depp has not yet signed on, Disney is currently developing a sequel to "Alice in Wonderland," and the actor has often said that as long as the material is good, he would be happy to return.

Wow are the other writers officially out? -But at least I liked the plot for "catch me if you can". Perhaps this is a good match...

ReplyDeleteAgreed! The first one was AWESOME (and can stand on its own two legs no problem).
ReplyDeleteThe next two were mmmmkay but only within the trilogy concept.
The last one was overkill. Not necessarily bad, certainly not great, just simply banking on the franchise's popularity.
I also agree that the shtick is getting old, but it can still be fun... occasionally... maybe it's just a habit thing by now, but yeah I can still get a chuckle out of it.
What I do think was very obviously missing from #4 were Elizabeth/Will. I hope there can be a chance for them to show up in the new one. It could take place 10 years after the 3rd one ended.
Maybe the new movie can pick up where the post credits scene of #3 ended... (baring Orlando and Keira want part in this. Olrando I think could be on board... Keira might have better things to do though...)

The second one sucked, it was half an hour too long and the whole talking fishheads thing was just plain stupid.

ReplyDeleteJeff Nathanson did the story to Indiana Jones and the kingdom of the plastic skull, He cowrote Tower Heist, Rush hour 2 and 3, the terminal... He has had some hit and misses.
ReplyDeleteI think pirates can be done well but a few things have to change to keep it fresh. It also depends if he is given the right to write the story or just the script. If he is just given a concept or a breakdown of each act then essentially he is just writing the dialogue. I do think that is the case because this is supposed to be filmed back to back with pirates 6. Only time will tell..
If Penelope Cruz is in it,I'm not watching.The last film was dreadful.So boring and no chemistry between the characters excpept for the mini story of Philip and Serena.Angelica and Jack???NO SPARKS THERE.I'll watch POT 5 only if the original cast with Depp,Knightley,Bloom and Rush come back together.

ReplyDeleteThey need to stop, they really do..........First one, LOVED it, i could watch it over and over(which i did). 2nd one loved it also, not as great as the first but i really liked it. 3rd was okkkk....4th i couldn't have been more bored!! And Johnny looked bored too! The only thing i liked about the 4th one was the mermaids......if none of the original characters come back, and they don't have a kick-ass script i'm not bothering.....Sorry JP, love u, love JS, but i'm over this.
