* How I Met Your Mother‘s official Season 9 renewal announcement is imminent. “I will be very happy to report in a very few days that things will be resolved,” confirmed Tassler. “We’re very confident and excited that things will work out. Almost everything is completed.” Asked whether Season 9 would be the show’s swan song, Tassler said, “It’s funny, we talked the other day [about], ‘[Will] people watch the show beyond knowing the mother?’ I bet there are a lot of people that would continue to watch after that. But right now, it’d be the end as designed by [co-creators] Carter [Bays] and Craig [Thomas], and I wouldn’t want to even attempt to undermine what their creative goal was.”

    They just barely got Jason for season nine, so I honestly doubt there'll be a season ten. But I think Barney/Robin's wedding will be in May and Ted will meet The Mother then. He'll most likely date her next season.

    Thomas and Bays HAVE said multiple times that Season 9 will be the last.

    no they never said that they said we wouldn't meet her til the wedding and since the wedding will happen in the season finale i think we will meet her this season finale we already got a glimpse of her in the season premiere this year and i think season 9 will be about Ted and the Mother's Relationship

    This is likely to be the final season no matter what this deal is only for 1 year. I hope we get to meet the mother but what I really want is for Barney & Robin to be happy and married it's really the only thing I care about. The mother will be great but I really never cared much about her to care about meeting her.

    The title of the series is How I Met Your Mother, however it's implied that we would get the story of How your mother and I fell in love. I believe that season 8 will end with Ted meeting the mother. Possibly leave off with a cliff hanger of him seeing her face. However it does not mean we see her face. I hope season 9 will be how Ted fell in love with her, similar to how the writers were able to develop the story with Victoria and Stella and not wait till the last scene for us to see her face. With that said, I do believe that the series could go on past the intended end of the story. The format would have to change, and it may have to be a brand new series. Perhaps Ted as a grandfather telling his grandchildren how their parents were raised.
