I liked Emily Owens too but the show never had a chance. Yes, the quality of the show noticeably improved but the ratings were never close to being good enough to stay on the air. It premiered with a .5 and stayed below that number every week since. There were some weeks when the show barely had a million viewers.
I know, but on the other hand I am pretty sure that the media had a big influence on those ratings (+ it is a CW show). The media bashed it after watching only the pilot, so people didn't tune in from the beginning. I just don't believe in cancelling something while it never got the chance to show its potential. The CW did a much better job when it was about Life UneXpected, two 13-episode orders, spread over 2 years, of course it didn't work out, but at least they gave it a shot.
After the pilot, I read some media reviews and was so put off that I thought about skipping the show entirely. But I am so glad that I didnt. This show was good and getting better as time passes.
By the time Life Unexpected ended its run on The CW it was still getting a .8 in the ratings. It lasted two seasons because the ratings were passable enough to keep it on the air for two seasons.
True, but by cancelling a show after only 3 or 4 episodes, you lose a large part of your audience. In this case, while I enjoyed all the aired episodes, they could've considered pulling the remaining episodes and air reruns of BaB...
why did cw call that promo the season finale? is there a little chance left that they're giving it another try by a second season? or is it just a mistake of cw that they didn't name the promo series finale??? i'm really confused!!
Heh. Well, if that were the case Beauty and the Beast would be in the same situation but that show is doing alright in spite of getting bashed relentlessly by the media.
Some shows just don't catch on no matter how entertaining they are. It sucks but it happens. There are a handful of shows every season that end up the same way and I always seem to follow my fair share of them. Along with Emily Owens, I wish CBS's Made in Jersey was still in production and I'm also mourning the loss of Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23, although that's a 2nd season show.
Yeah true, however I have to admit that I am enjoying Emily Owens more than BaB, watch it anyway though =P The CW will never have a show which will have millions of viewers. Curious to see which of the next batch of pilots are going to be picked up, so far I have not yet read a plot which sounds at least a little entertaining (apparently I am the only one who doesn't like the idea of a Hunger Games-like show =P). Since this is probably going to be the last season for 90210 (about time) and not sure if Nikita will live to see another year, it could really use some fresh new material.
For me, still sad about Partners, really enjoyed that, but apparently wasn't good enough either.
Oh, you are not the only one who has no interest in a Hunger Games-type show. Like you, also want nothing to do with it.
Even though, like you, I've yet to come across a CW pilot that seems really interesting (although I'll probably watch The Originals if its picked up) the network will be losing a handful of shows this year so some of these mediocre pilots will end up making it through to series. The network will probably have themselves at least one more Emily Owens-type situation next season. Hopefully, I won't be as attached to those shows as I am to Emily Owens M.D.
I'm so glad they didn't drag out Micah/Emily, although I am apprehensive to watch the season finale because the only satisfying ending for me will be Micah and Emily <3 I'm going to miss this show so much. I wish it was a summer show/got picked up again some time in the future. Of course that would never happen. So sad ):
Yeah I will probably watch The Originals, but I am not a big fan of this idea, simply because Klaus is no longer a fan favorite and Phoebe Tonkin's character has not left an impression (don't even know what she is called in TVD anymore), the only character I want to see is Elijah, but I rather see him being Elijah in TVD.
We have yet to see if Cult is worth adding to the already long list. Yet to see whether the Carrie Diaries will live up to the hype (it is a cute show, but can't say it is particularly good). If they keep up choosing poorly each year, they eventually have a whole week of new shows to pick, because they had to cancel each new show after 5 episodes =P
Yeah so I guess I am yet again watching a show that was DOA. Pretty sure the same will happen to Cult. Personally I think that at least 4 shows will not see next September, TCD, Cult, 90210 and Nikita (all four shows are on my list =P).
Yeah, and if they are doing that with a Hunger Games rip-off they need some strong shows in their back pockets just in case it wasn't such a great idea after all =P
I don't think they'll have the option of keeping anything in their back pocket. The CW has ordered 8 pilots this year and the network is probably going to have at least 4 or 5 slots to fill. A pilot is going to have to be really bad for the network to pass on it.
Yeah and I don't see all of them pass. So maybe next year will be a season with reruns to fill the gaps. If this continues, for how long will The CW, as it is now, survive? (Maybe that is a discussion for another time =P)
I feel the same way about watching the finale! I'm going to be majorly bummed if she picks Will...and the promo is leading me to believe she does. Damn you CW. -__-
Didn't it get nominated for a People's Choice award? I'm really disappointed they didn't give this a chance, I've enjoyed it and would like it to continue. :-(
Oh no! I watched the promo on YouTube again and someone said you can see Will's glasses ;_; and you can! BUT why is she only wearing a shirt when she answers the door? I hope it's Micah's shirt and she just got laid hahaha!
Or maybe it's a dream?! I'll take anything that doesn't involve her ending up with Will. I am far too invested in a show that only has 1 more episode...haha
The best advertisement of this show that I saw was a big sign above a 7-11. I live in the Sherman Oaks/Encino area. Lots of people around, yet no advertisements. I saw NO ads whatsoever on TV. Nobody else thinks that's why there aren't any viewers? -M
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
So dumb that the CW didn't give this show a chance! It got so much better after the first episode! Really going to miss this show!

ReplyDeleteCompletely agree with everything you have said.

ReplyDeleteCheck the ratings in the STV database. Emily Owens viewership has stayed relatively even throughout the series, even after its cancellation.

ReplyDeleteWell I guess I should stick with my "we should blame the media for bashing it from the beginning" argument.
ReplyDeleteNo, that's what they always do. I'm afraid it's cancelled.

Hype isn't The Carrie Diaries' problem right now, it's the ratings. They're almost as bad as Emily Owens. :)

ReplyDeletedespite Nikita's poor ratings it is very likely to be renewed for a 4th season due to syndication.
ReplyDeleteCarrie wont be back
90210 is now looking doubtful for a short final season if rumours are true
Cult is a toss up
TVD, SPN, Arrow, HOD, Nikita and Beauty all look like they are safe
And Gossip Girl is already gone. Needless to say, The CW is going to have a lot of space to fill this fall.
ReplyDeleteYeah, and if they are doing that with a Hunger Games rip-off they need some strong shows in their back pockets just in case it wasn't such a great idea after all =P

ReplyDeleteMe too! I don't think I've ever been more invested in any other show. Cue the ugly tears that will be cried after the finale.
ReplyDeleteHaha...same here. I will have the tissues ready...and several objects to throw if she does not pick Micah.
