Continuum - Gets a mere 0.2 in US ratings

16 Jan 2013

Continuum is a huge hit in Canada beating the likes of Lost Girl and Haven in Showcase in Canada, but in the US, not so much, Continuum scored a mere 0.2 18-49 demo ratings for its series premiere on SyFy luckily its Canadian ratings should be enough to keep it on the air for a long time. For comparison Lost Girl and Being Human both got 0.5 demos on the same night.

  1. I didn't think I would, but I truly enjoyed Continuum! Nice surprise.

  2. That's a scary low demo number for a premiere. Although it usually doesn't happen, I wonder if Syfy will consider pulling the remaining episodes rather than deciding to, um... continuum. (Sorry. Couldn't help it.)

  3. Yikes that's low for a premiere..To tell you the truth i was disappointed with it,after hearing good things about it i was expecting..well something much better than what it was...

  4. The US really doesn't like science fiction anymore huh?

USA hates scifi it seems. Or well, anything that requires thinking and it decent, I guess.

  6. yeah but this is a canadian series not a Syfy series so i really don't think it's Syfy Ratings Matter it's the Showcase Ratings that Matter i'm more worried with How Being Human did on Monday even if Syfy Does pull the episodes it will still air on Showcase

  7. I forgot it was on. Hopefully I can catch up on SYFY's website? I wanted to give it a shot! -Still can't believe the difference in ratings! That is very scary...Oh how my Country disappoints me.

    I am actually surprised that something that is basically The 4400 + social commentary on economic recession dangers, did so poorly :{

  9. Ah come on, don't be disappointed in us until you watch it. You might change your mind.

PS. I'd try your cable's on demand. Syfy doesn't stream much.

  10. I don't believe that's true.in this case i don't think the syfy channel promoted it at all. They promoted the hell out of Being Human and Lost Girl, but i didn't see one promo for Continuum. The only reason i saw it is because i was flipping through channels and i happened upon it...

  11. Syfy did promote Continuum. The problem is that their promotion of the show has been completely awful.

Agreed. Then again, SYFY's promotion tendencies overall are awful.

  13. That's too bad. I really enjoyed it. Well, it's doing well on Showcase, so I'm glad about that.

  14. Did they promote it as much as Being Human or Lost Girl? I got so sick of their promos i either changed the channel or muted the tv,but i never saw a promo for Continuum.

  15. I saw the first ep a while back and it really didn't grab me at all.

  16. Laura, they will be repeating it on Thursday night at 10 pm. They will be showing this on Monday nights at 8 pm.then probably repeat once or twice a week.Check your time in case its different.

  17. I've been seeing Continuum promos for a few months now and their ads make the show look as bad as their Syfy original movies.

  18. I'm not saying I won't like it, just disappointed that the rest of America either like me, forgot it was on, or have decided Sci-fi is too much for them. I've never cared much for what others watched. I plan on watching it when If I can.

And now I'm wondering if your coment was actually meant for me, or Laura3341

  19. Ok. Cool! Thanks! :)

  20. Hahaha! So True!

  21. Yikes,enough said!

  22. Your welcome! :)

  23. Well, that sucks.

I saw the pilot and didn't like it very much. Will not continue watching the show.

  24. LOL! I don't watch the SYFY channel at all anymore, so I guess it's a good thing I didn't see the adds after all :P

  25. I really want to like this show because I love Rachel Nichols but she deserves a show better than this. I know some people love it so I hope it will conclude in a couple of seasons and Nichols gets good series.

  26. The only shows i watch now is Warehouse 13 and Haven, they cancelled the other shows i watched. I'm a little surprised you don't watch them.

  27. I was surprised by how much I liked it. Based on the topic, the narrative, the actors, etc, I'd have expected much higher! I hope Syfy promotes it better...

Continuum's been available online for a while to download. I saw the entire 1st season before Syfy even started airing it. Most people probably did the same so had no reason to watch it on Syfy.

  29. I have had a lot of Warehouse 13 recommendations, I'm sure I'll get to it one of these days!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I hear you, their are so many shows i want to see. :P One day check out Haven too,its pretty good!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I definitely am surprised by those numbers given how well it was received in Canada and the UK. I hope the word of mouth on the premiere boosts the numbers, but I know that's not the typical pattern. Well, I hope things improve.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I can really recommend it!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stick with it, it had a great pilot but it gets alot better still! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. It seems SyFy has trained them well not to care about actual scifi anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Rephrasing it to be 'The SyFy channel has alienated most science fiction fans' would be far more accurate. Sci-Fi fans are abundant in the USA -- we're just subjected to a terribly ran 'SyFy' network.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I've never been a big fan of scifi and it has nothing to do with any channel.

The only shows I watch on SYFY is Warehouse 13 and Being Human.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I hope because the pilot for me was disappointing. :)

    ReplyDelete
  38. What didn't you like about it?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Syfy used to be a pure scifi channel at first, but over time they started alienating their scifi fans because they wanted to be something different and broadcast something different. Most of the people who watch scifi don't watch syfy anymore. That is what I was trying to say.

  40. A friend of min was looking forward to the premiere of Continuum. When I told her it was on, unfortunately, in the middle of it airing (she's on EST) she was shocked. I think the biggest problem has to do with promotion...especially given that the rest of the block did better. My next big question is ...are they adding in the rebroadcast numbers (in addition to DVR numbers.) After all didn't Nielsen's big survey say sci fi was the biggest gainer wit off broadcast number gains?

Well that's unfortunate because it is a good show and it gets really good by the end of the season. If SyFy chooses to cancel it I hope they make that choice sooner than later because someone made the stupid decision to air season 2 in the US and Canada at the same time which means we Canadians currently have to wait for season 1 to finish airing in the US first. If SyFy pulls the plug then hopefully Showcase in Canada will air season 2 earlier.
