CBS has given a pilot order to the Beverly Hills Cop reboot from Shawn Ryan and Eddie Murphy. In this continuation of the movie franchise, Brandon T. Jackson stars as Axel Foley's police officer son, who takes down criminal elements of the rich and famous in Beverly Hills. Ryan will write and executive-produce alongside Murphy, who will also co-star, and Marney Hochman.
Additionally, CBS has given pilot orders to Friends With Better Lives, a comedy about a group of thirtysomething friends who each think the other has it better. Dana Klein will write and executive-produce with Aaron Kaplan.
Also receiving a pilot order is Backstrom, a drama from Bones' Hart Hanson. It's based on the Swedish book series about an overweight, offensive, irascible detective as he tries, and fails, to change his self-destructive behavior. Hanson will write and executive-produce, alongside Leif G.W. Persson and Niclas Salomonsson.

Sadly, you're right, I'd give a try only two or three, pilots... that's upsetting :-/
ReplyDeleteAll the networks ordered a shitload of pilots last night. Surprised there isn't one big megapost about it, tbh.
ReplyDeleteNone of the pilots really sound all that great this year, other than a few.
More cop shows, so nothing new there then.
ReplyDeleteBHC could be good provided its got the comedy element to it instead of just being a procedural about a cop in Beverly Hills chasing rich crooks or whatever
The other drama and the comedy sound awful
Every year I say "Next year it will be better". Funny thing, I always say that and it never is. Friends with better lives - we saw million versions of that. Backstrom - possible good, but overweight detective with issues .... also done a lot. Beverly Hills cop - that sounds almost painful but it can be a good thing if they do it in a new way. I doubt that I will like any of them, but miracles happened.
ReplyDeleteSound like regular CBS shows....
ReplyDeleteNothing earth shattering, though possibly depending on execution decent TV....
