Former ER series regular Alex Kingston is joining The CW’s breakout superhero drama Arrow in a recurring guest star role. The British actress will play Dinah Lance — Laurel’s (Katie Cassidy) mom and Detective Quentin’s (Paul Blackthorne) ex-wife. Later this season Dinah will return to Starling City to make amends with her family that she abandoned years earlier following the tragic death of her daughter aboard Oliver Queen’s (Stephen Amell) yacht.

Oooh. Brilliant actress. Seen her in Doctor Who and NCIS. Hopefully she'll be a worthwhile addition to the Arrow storyline.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing news. Alex is great actress and can't wait to see her. I only hope that she is not a bad character.
ReplyDeleteNo complaints here. I've always liked Alex Kingston. I'm sure she'll be great on Arrow.
ReplyDeleteAnd, it also intrigues me that Andy, like myself, is from England, and therefore entitled the post with 'mum' rather than 'mom', while the main body of text says 'mom'.
ReplyDeleteI love whoever is responsible for casting on the show! First John, then Seth, David and now Alex!
ReplyDeleteIt's always good to see her! ;)
They do, and i cant still belive Arrow is a CW-series.
ReplyDeleteShe'll be great in one of ~Laurel's dinner scenes.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if, just maybe, Dinah will have some superheroic leanings like her comics counterpart...(at least, her pre new-52 counterpart). Maybe she'll even have the canary cry. Who knows?
ReplyDeleteI've never watched Arrow, but I'm definitely tuning in to see Alex.
ReplyDeleteNever heard of her, but cool I guess.
ReplyDeleteNiiiiiiiice!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if she will play a version of "black canary" and maybe being a vigilante is one of the reasons she left....
I wouldn't count on the canary cry (just yet) but then again there have already been some discrepancies with what has been said about what they want to do versus what they ended up doing.
ReplyDeleteSo ridiculously excited about this news!! My favorite actress!! Have never seen Arrow but will definitely tune in now! Hopefully we can get an alex/John scene!
ReplyDeleteI will now be tuning in as well. I love Alex Kingston!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I kind of doubt that there will be metahumans in this show. It's pretty "real-world" (as much as a show can be when it involves billionaire playboys dressing up in costumes and fighting criminals with bows and arrows). Still, I can dream. :)
ReplyDeleteMy best guess would be that if they did make her Black Canary, or when Laurel eventually becomes Black Canary, they may have a more real world canary cry. Some device that emits it rather than Laurel herself doing it.
ReplyDeleteLets hope her acting is not a crap as Katie Cassidy's
ReplyDeleteRiver Song is going to be on Arrow!!!! For a moment that's all I could think. lol. I love Alex Kingston, since ER. It will be great to see her in another series.
ReplyDeleteI´m so glad we'll get to see Dinah Lance. I was wondering about Laurel and her future as Black Canary. Hopefully her mother is going to teach her how to be a vigilante.
I love how Arrow keeps having these great guests (and someone there must have a thing for Doctor Who).
That's been my theory. I don't think trying to incorporate metahumans into the world they've already built would be advisable or feasible.
ReplyDeleteOh man, this makes me want to cry with happiness.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy by this news. Because I wanted so much Alex Kingston as Laurel's mom. And she looks like a lot Katie Cassidy.
ReplyDeleteFirst it's Barrowman and now Alex K. and so many others from Seth Gabel to David Anders. Arrow has some great casting choices.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I've ever been this excited about a casting choice...Bring it on!!!
ReplyDeleteAnother familiar face added to
ReplyDeleteArrow will be awesome. Most of my friends that work with me at DISH were
talking about her ER role, while I recognize Kingston from Doctor Who. Arrow
isn’t wasting anytime with its characters in the first season, and I’m happy to
watch every episode on Wednesday nights. My roommates all have shows to watch
on Wednesday nights, too, so my DISH Hopper is a big help. It allows us to
watch up to 4 programs at once, and none of us ever have to fight over who gets
to watch what.
