ABC has given pilot orders to three dramas from David Zabel, Aaron Zelman and Byron Balasco, and a comedy from Aaron Kaplan.
In Betrayal, a beautiful but unhappily married female photographer begins a torrid affair with a lawyer for a powerful family. When he turns out to be defending a murder suspect who is being prosecuted by her husband, the relationship and the case begin a spiraling series of betrayals with cataclysmic results for everyone involved. Zabel will write, while Rob Golenberg and Alon Aranya will executive-produce.
Venice is a modern-day Romeo and Juliet-esque drama about two rival families and the forbidden and dangerous romance emerging between them as they battle for control of Venice. Balasco will write and executive-produce, alongside Peter Johnson and McG, who will also direct the pilot.
Zelman's The Returned will ask what happens when the people you have mourned and buried suddenly appear on your doorstep as if not a day's gone by? The lives of the people of Aurora are forever changed when their deceased loved ones... return.
Pulling is a half-hour single camera comedy that tells the story of three dysfunctional women in their 30s living their lives the way they want, even if society tells them they should have it all figured out by this point. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky will write, while Kaplan, Sharon Horgan and Dennis Kelly will executive-produce.

So these were the best options?
ReplyDeleteYikes!
It`s ABC. The only thing that matters on ABC this pilot season is S.H.I.E.L.D.
ReplyDeleteMaybe, but the fact that S.H.I.E.L.D. will be on ABC worries me since ABC tends to make every show feel the same - Too watered down and too sappy.
ReplyDeleteThe show does not seem to fall into the ABC family/ soapy/ sappy wheelhouse, but I still worry. It's been a long time since I liked an ABC series...
I remember Lost.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it doesn't have the soapy feel I would expect out of an ABC drama. But is anyone dumb enough to mess with Joss Whedon right now? I feel like he wouldn't do it if he was going to run into the same network interference stupidity that he's had in the past. I don't know how he can possibly live up to expectations, but I feel like the network is gonna let him run with it.
ReplyDeleteThe Returned sounds A LOT like Les Renevants...
ReplyDeleteI think Zelman should change the name of the town...
ReplyDeleteBut honestly, I don't think I'm interested in any of these...
Don't worry, they'll all be dead and buried by mid-season (no that is NOT a pun for 'The Returned'!)
ReplyDeleteNothing too special sounding.
ReplyDeleteSeems like so long ago!
ReplyDeleteThe Betrayal-too soapy
ReplyDeleteThe Returned -sounds like an episode of Supernatural
Venice-um no
Dont do ABC comedy
Nothing special, ABC...
ReplyDeleteTrue, I had not really thought of that.
ReplyDeleteI am hopeful, just have some healthy skepticism I guess. XD
the returned sounds interesting (just a synopsis so who knows), that's it though.
