Supernatural - Favorite Song - 1B - Polls

14 Dec 2012

Our favorite song polls have been completed, perhaps to no surprises. Carry on Wayward Son decimated its competition Cherry Pie by a whopping 96%, proving it is the forerunner if anyone had doubts. Highway to Hell also clobbered its competition, In-a-Gadda-da-Vida, with 87% of the votes. This was more surprising considering they ranked #16 and #17 in the nominations. I foretell some AC/DC love. Knockin' on Heaven's Door also got lots of love with an 88& victory over Rooster, while Rock of Ages beat One Way or Another by 63% - the closest contest so far. Today's polls should be interesting in that they cover a wider range of music. Perhaps things won't be such a blowout this time. Well at least one of them will be. Happy voting!

Below is a list of all the shows in the competition. If you click on the song title, it should lead you to a YouTube video of the song with lyrics. If you see one that no longer works, please let me know in the comments below. Carry on Wayward Son is now fixed. Also, I added the nomination form for other polls. If you have a poll idea you would like to see in the future, please nominate it. I will not do any contest that promotes brother wars or shipping, but other than that.....

Finally, everyone needs to get their episode rankings done so we can start in January. Yes, that includes those pesky middle ones which are almost impossible to rank. The more people who participate, the more fun it will be. So grab those DVDs and join me for a Supernatural hiatus marathon. 150 episodes by January 1. Come on. It'll be fun!

  1. I don't know how many of you would be familiar with the Davies boys and The Kinks with Well Respected Man. Great song from a great era.

  2. I voted for Bob Seger and I HATE Bob Seger.

  3. Most of these were really no contest for me, as far as picking the better song.

    1. Long, Long Way From Home is by far a better song than Eye of the Tiger. I like Eye of the Tiger, it's a fun song, but I can't listen to it over and over and over like I can almost any Foreigner, especially Long, Long Way From Home. Also - Eye of the Tiger will always be the song from Rocky for me. I hope the Foreigner fans come out en masse to vote!!!!

    2. Beautiful Loser because, hello!! Bob Seger! No contest. Bad Moon Rising, again, is a good song, but I can listen to Seger sing almost anything and find it amazing. Beautiful Loser all the way.

    3. Silent Lucidity. I love AC/DC but Hells Bells is one of my least favorite of theirs, and I just love the sound of Silent Lucidity. It's a gorgeous song. Hells Bells, for me, is mostly just noise.

    4. For me, Bon Jovi rocks ALWAYS, not just on occasion (Dean!). :D I still remember waaaaaaaaaaaaay back to the mid-80's when I was a kid and thought that Bon Jovi music was so "hard rock". Oh, how naive ;) Plus, Wanted Dead or Alive happens to be among my favorite Bon Jovi tunes. So it wins. I like A Well Respected Man quite a lot, but I always associate that song with Juno.

  4. Eye of the Tiger. I love the other song, but I always see Jensen playing air guitar on his leg when hear this song. Beautiful Loser was my next choice. Bad Moon Rising is a good song, but it makes me think of American Werewolf in London. Silent Lucidity over Hells Bells and it was difficult, but Silent Lucidity is the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I really love A Well Respected Man, although Wanted Dead or Alive is one of my favorites.

  5. Yesterday I agreed with the winners. This time I will be lucky if one I choose wins.

    1. I think Eye of the Tiger will be the big time winner in this section, but it was so overplayed when I was a kid that i still haven't gotten over it. Quite frankly I prefer Weird Al's version, Theme from Rocky XIII (The Rye or the Kaiser). My vote goes to Long, Long Way Home since Weird Al isn't a choice. By the way, if you've never heard the Weird Al song try here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nbq08-_UhUU

    2. Beautiful Loser...by a lot. Bad Moon Rising is one of the few songs I like less because of Supernatural. I swear I still check nervously for semis whenever I hear that song on the radio. In fact I turn it off right away. Plus Beautiful Loser is a great song.

3.This one is the hardest for me. Silent Lucidity has the haunting tone but Hell's Bells has the fabulous opening. Have to think more about this one. (That's code for I will wait until the poll is almost over and then vote for the one that is losing.)

    4. This one is also harder than it should ever be, I am a huge Bon Jovi fan since the 80's so it should be a no-brainer. But...Well Respected Man is classic Kinks. I have no doubt Bon Jovi will take this one (and if it were Livin' on a Prayer I'd vote it in a heartbeat) but I'm going for the Kinks this time.

  6. I'm not a big Seger fan myself but I too voted for him this time. I simply cannot endorse Bad Moon Rising. That song creeped me out before SPN. Now I associate it with terrible luck.

  7. 'Long long way home.' Terrific song I could listen to it all day long. No hesitation! Love Foreigner.

"Eye of the tiger" is a fun song but no more than that.

Talking of music associated with SPN. I'm ashamed to say that I had never heard the song 'Beautiful Loser' before watching the ep 6,01.

After having seen it I went out looking for the Seger CD and I couldn't find it, eventually got it from Amazon.

That clip of Beautiful Loser is one of the most memorable moments on the whole SPN. It was perfect. Beautiful and so evocative of the brothers; what had been and what had been lost. Now and then I pull out the CD just to watch that clip. It get my vote,.:)

Hell's Bells and Silent Lucidity. Not over the moon about either of these songs but I'll go with Hell's Bells.

Have to go with the Kinks here. I love the song; apart from the fact that it kicks off one of my very favourite episodes.

I have to ally myself with Dean. 'Occasionally Bon Jovi rocks' but not in this case! :)

  8. After having written my coment I scrolled down and saw that you had commented the last song more or less like myself with Dean's motto, but completely in the opposite direction. :)

I think that's sweet, the way each of us sees things in a different way using the same illustration. :)

  9. Love the Kinks and Lola is the song I love most.

My sons have never listened to current music, so we have the house filled with cd's fom the sixties onward. It was alll great music.:)

  10. Long,Long Way Home - Eye of the Tiger is memorable because of Jensen for me and not because of the song itself. It's a fun song to listen to from time to time but I'm not crazy about it.
I still expect it to win big time though.

Bad Moon Rising - I like Beautiful Loser even though I'm not a huge Bob Seger fan,but I love Bad Moon Rising(despite the evil cliffhanger).

Hell's Bells - Both are great songs but Hell's Bells gets my vote for the awesome opening.

Wanted Dead or Alive - Another song I actually knew before the show! ; )
A Well-Respected Man is a cool song as well, but I simply love Bon Jovi.

  11. LOL, Rye or the Kaiser, had not heard that, but I have loved Eye since it came out and was thrilled to hear it on SPN and Dean just made it better for me.

  12. Had to go with Eye, have always loved that song, the beat gets me moving and now I can see Dean and his air guitar.

This one was harder as I like both songs and Beautiful Loser just fits with the boys so well, but I am going with Bad Moon Rising as it just creeps me out and I look for bad things to happen.

I am drawing a blank on what ep Silent Lucidity and Hell's Bells were
in. Not ringing any bells for me. ;) Will wait to vote on that one.

No contest for me on this one, Wanted Dead or Alive and yep Bon Jovi rocks on this one.

  13. Did google search and Silent Lucidity wins hands down for me, in context of the show. Not crazy about either song.
