Finally a series where something gets revealed. Teaser about next episode actually looks like the finale, but there's still 1 more after that. I'm actually really excited :O
I was not expecting that!!! FINALLY SOMEONE KNOWS!!!
Glad to see Mordred didn't waste any time telling Morgana about Emrys, it would've been extremely ridiculous (more than usual) if he didn't.
Heartbreaking performance by Alex, he brought depth to the character, and I don't blame him for his decision.
But Sandi you were right, Merlin had the best intentions and I don't blame him either, but he made bad choices, and now it's destiny time, the final battle.
Too many thoughts in my head right now, I'll come back later and see what other people think...
I think that was one of the best episodes this series. Mordred nearly had me crying at several points and I don't get teary easily (although maybe the bottle of wine I'm working through this evening helped with that). I'm glad that there has finally been a magical reveal even if it wasn't the one we've all been waiting for. I love that Merlin tried to do the right thing and circumstances meant it still turned out for the worst, there is an inevitability building for Arthur's fate.
Well, watching the episode made a lot of things clearer we have been anticipating. Arthur did what he could do - he was actually prepared to let her go. Merlin was, as expected, quite paranoid about Mordred - that first scene when Mordred asks: 'Why do you always think the worst of me, Merlin?' is heartbreaking - they have so much in common and could have been great friends. Mordred actually acts a lot like Merlin in the earlier series.
But Merlin knows that time is running out. Mind, he also should have known that meddling in things to do with destiny never end well (look what happened in 'The Crystal Cave'). Like then he thought he could change the course of things, and by trying to avoid them, actually meade them happen. Mordred had his revenge by telling Morgana - she will now try to eliminate Merlin - from what it looks like in the trailer, by locking him in the infamous cave. Merlin's 'Noooooo' at the end seems to indicate that he just realized he is caught and can do nothing to help Arthur any more.
I just hope that TPTB don't let him stay there till modern days, and Camelot will just fall without Merlin even being able to try and do something about it!
LOL. a series where something gets revealed. That is quite funny (no offence) considering that we ahve waited FIVE seasons for a reveal. But you are right, it is a relief someone major finally knows.
AAARRGGH! Just, I'm SO angry with this (I want even add an adjective here) Kara! I blame her for everything that happened!
And honestly, the best part of it all was Morgana FINDING OUT about Merlin! That was actually awesome! I did expect her to pass out, though... So there goes my disappointment. But still. This is HUGE!
Coming back to the episode itself. I felt so bad for Mordred!
He was clearly blindly in love with this girl and couldn't accept what she's become.
It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch him fall apart and beg Arthur and other knights for their support. And it kills me he wasn't there to see Arthur breaking the law for him and trying to give this (!!!!) Kara a chance. Even though she didn't even deserve it. He killed people in cold blood, with no remorse.
That's just awful!
And Arthur was still willing to give her a chance for redemption. He did absolutely nothing wrong and I hate that Mordred doesn't see it that way, cause these two were really good friends.
In the beginning of the episode we got the ultimate proof that Mordred meant no harm for Camelot when he was calling Arthur his friends and saying that he believes in him. I wish he believed in his friend more... All the horrible things that are about to happen would never occur if he did.
I'm sad that Merlin gave up on Mordred since Day 1 because I think things would go better if their relationship was different...
And just to be clear. I'm gonna be really angry if I'm gonna hear anyone claiming that Arthur is like his father and executes people just for having magic, ever again! This case had nothing to do with magic from his point. It was murder. Multiple murder. And not even about trying to kill the king. This girl showed no signs of remorse and only said she would do it all over again. It's hard to blaim anyone more than her. And it's so hard to believe that she's the main cause for all the tragedy that is coming...
* The melody that kept playing in the episode just made me very close to tears. All I could think about was: "it's from the burial and it clearly is a horrible sign!"
Next week: BIG FINALE part 1. And this may be even more heartbreak than I can take!
Yes! Think about how this would have been so very different if Kara had only shown some remorse. I don't think this is Merlin's, Arthur's or Mordred's fault it is Kara's for being so unrepentant and arrogant and refusing to acknowledge that maybe her actions were not justified. I loved the scene where despite what he had told Merlin, Arthur very clearly had taken on board what he had said to him.
Kara is directly responsible for this, I can only hope Mordred finds out she was given the chance to save her life and she refused, but I doubt that is going to happen now.
Yes, I don't see how Arthur had any choice. He could hardly spare someone who didn't even regret their actions! Its a shame that Mordred wasn't there to hear that.
I couldn't bring myself to feel sorry for Mordred...I'm sorry, I loved every single episode of the season (even if there was part here and there that I liked less), but I found this episode awful, first time in the whole serie I vote that for Merlin..
I mean, come on Mordred, your girlfriend was a crazy murderer, even blind people could see it. She clearly didn't care about killing people even if they hadn't done anything,, clearly didn't care about giving people a chance or anything. I'm sorry but if I found out my old lost girlfriend/boyfriend if s crazy psychopath I won't betray all my friends for her/him. And Merlin could've show that he cared to 'save' Mordred from his hate/destiny by telling him he'll go talk to Arthur and tell him later Arthur still gave the girl a chance....it's frustrated how everything was written 'Just' to make Mordred angry. I don't know how to express it. The whole episode felt like ''well.....we need to make Mordred go evil...and we only have one episode before the 2 part series-finale...and we have no idea how, so let's throw a girl and f*** logic, let's write every lines to lead in that direction''. To be honest if it was that in the 'real' legend or in some version of that, but If only we would've 2 episodes (or maybe even 3) to built that big turning point of the serie. Maybe it could've been bring in a way better way that I would've love it. But they had to rush the ''Power of no return'' of the whole serie in 1 episode cause they use 4 on Gwen (don't get me wrong I LOVE those episodes, I just think they could've been shorter considering it was the last season)
Maybe if it was written better I could've love it and feel for Mordred, I'll blame it on the writers, Anyway, sorry for the long roman i just wrote, I had to get it out of my chest...It frustrated me to see that everything turned out to be about a girl (who didn't deserve anything but to die horribly...), it wasn't like Arthur just attacked her out of the blue, she attacked first...
Anyway, at least there was the reveal at the end and next week look really great! I hope badly Arthur will found out too!
I think it was done very well - I don't think Merlin befriending Mordred would have made a difference in Mordred going bad....Merlin still would have gone to Arthur out of loyalty and Kara dying was the ultimate catalyst in his going to Morgana.
The only problem I have is I would have thought Morgana would show more surprise / shock at who Emrys was...not just the smirk of evilness like she was expecting that all along
I agree, though this isn't by far the first episode I felt that way...I'm really only watching at this point, because I want to see it through. But it is frustrating...on the one hand, the show doesn't allow the character to face the consequences of their actions, on the other hand, it makes sure that if they HAVE to face consequences, it's not really because they did something wrong, but because of some stupid contrivances.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

Yes, I agree with every word and like I said. I blame her for the entire thing!
ReplyDeleteThis one girl destroyed everything! And it's always gonna haunt me!
Yes, I don't see how Arthur had any choice. He could hardly spare someone who didn't even regret their actions! Its a shame that Mordred wasn't there to hear that.
ReplyDeleteI really hope Arthur finds out about Merlin sometime the next episode. I also hope that Arthur doesn't die, nor Merlin be trapped in the cave.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't bring myself to feel sorry for Mordred...I'm sorry, I loved every single episode of the season (even if there was part here and there that I liked less), but I found this episode awful, first time in the whole serie I vote that for Merlin..
