As you may have heard, this year, famed sci-fi god Joss Whedon wrote and directed a little film called The Avengers. It went on to have a bit of acclaim among critics and audience alike, therefore making the creator of Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse enter the world of top Hollywood directors. His plans after such a hit ? Going back to TV (by creating the ABC series SHIELD, coming next season) and writing / producing / directing / editing / composing the music for a film adaptation of a Shakespearian play shot in his backyard, Much Ado About Nothing. Given that pattern, the next logical step would be Dr Horrible II - no but seriously, it's great that he's doing these 'smaller' projects.

Much Ado About Nothing (duration : 1h47) is a dramedy shot in black-and-white in Joss Whedon's backyard between October 11 and October 23, 2011.
Anthony Stewart Head (Giles !) was intended to be a part of the film but ultimately Clark Gregg stepped in to replace him. Still, the cast boats lots of actors from the Whedonverse, including :

Amy Acker
Alexis Denisof (Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse) as Benedick.
Nathan Fillion (Buffy, Firefly, Dr Horrible) as Dogberry.
Sean Maher (Firefly) as Don John.
Fran Kranz (Dollhouse, Cabin in the Woods) as Claudio.
Reed Diamond (Dollhouse) as Don Pedro.
Clark Gregg (The Avengers, SHIELD) as Leonato.
Tom Lenk (Buffy, Angel, Cabin in the Woods) as Verges.
With also Spencer Treat Clark, Riki Lindhome, Ashely Johnson, Jillian Morgese and Emma Bates.
It will get a limited release June 7, 2013 before going wide two weeks later.

Are you as excited as I am about this opportunity Joss is giving us to see 'Wesley' and 'Fred' together on screen again, with also Mal, Simon, Jonathan and the others in this unexpected setting ?

I'm honestly just excited to see another adaptation of my favorite Shakespeare play, the fact that Joss Whedon did it and Nathan Fillion is in it just means it is going to be epic!
ReplyDeleteWhedon didn't allow Wesley and Fred to have a happy ending on Angel, maybe he can make up for it here.
ReplyDeleteAh, Wesley and Fred... I'm not a shipper kind of guy, not at all, I usually loathe shows that toy too much with that writing device, but these two... the more I think of it, the more I love how Whedon stabbed viewers in the heart with how it ended between them (it sure made me cry, twice, in episode 5.15 and in the finale). Season 5 of Angel really is perfection, imo, one of the very best seasons of TV of the Whedonverse (with season 5 of Buffy, probably).
ReplyDeleteNice of Whedon to have this kind of film made nowadays, it's basically a treat for him and his fans.
Can't wait to see it - would love to see "Castle" next to Nathan Fillion's name as a credit #justsayin' :)
ReplyDeleteThey were going by specifically what these actors had done with Joss Whedon.
ReplyDeleteI will totally watch this! Wish David Boreanaz was in it too I love him. Did not like Caleb but Nathan Fillion is amazing.
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So. happy.
ReplyDeleteyes finaly
ReplyDeleteWhen the hell did Joss Whedon make Castle?
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see it ! I hope I will be ale to see it 'cause I'm in France. Anyone knows if it will be released in France ?
