  1. Oh wow. This wasn't the trailer they showed at the end of the last episode! Crickey. The last two episodes look brilliant. I'm in two minds about them, I can't wait to see them but... once I've seen them, there won't be any more and I almost don't want to see them to try and prolong it. Merlin's "I've lost my magic." and Morgana's "I want him dead!" are very striking.

  2. Wow, this is incredible! And I really hope it's OUR dragon at the end, not Aithusa, and he's there to help! Maybe with Merlin! But something tells me not to get my hopes up...

  3. Merlin will loose his magic but it seems like he is going to get it back because he will turn into his old self later on. It requires magic, doesn't it?

  4. agree i cant wait for the next episodes but also feel the same that they are the last .
so merlin loses his magic im guessing it might be ep 12 and i wonder how long of the episode merlin will not have magic for before he somehow gets it back and i also find it interesting that in the trailer for next episode she still calls him emrys even though she knows its merin

  5. Doesn't it require a potion? I'm not disagreeing per se, I think Merlin will regain his magic before the final battle but if I recall correctly he changes into old Merlin by drinking a potion and that could easily be done by Gaius.

  6. I could be wrong but it looks to me like Aithusa is creating a sword in a dragon's breath for Morgana.

  7. Yes, it does. But I think Merlin told Gaius a few times that it takes magic and leaves him tired.

  8. Actually, he changes into old merlin with a spell, and then back to young merlin with a potion. So it does require magic. Unless they've decided to change the rules now...

  9. Yes, that's what it looked like to me, an excalibur 2.0?...good luck arthur...

  10. No, I'm pretty sure its a potion that he uses to change into old Merlin. The very first time he uses it there's a scene with him making something to change into old Merlin and he tries a spell to change back that doesn't work and he then needs a potion to change back. When he met the Dochraid a couple of weeks ago I'm sure he drank something beforehand to change into old Merlin. I'd have to re-watch to be sure but I'm mostly confident that its a potion he drinks to make the change not just magic.

  11. I suppose it evens the battlefield if Morgana doesn't use her magic.

  12. Well, that's the thing, there are always different ways....the first time Merlin made a potion while saying a spell and Gaius had to make him a potion to change back.
The 2nd time when Uther died, he only did a spell to become old merlin, no potion and I asume he took a potion to change back again.

When he met the Dochraid, some people in this site, including me, think they got it wrong, and that he shouldn't have taken the potion to transform into old merlin, but to change back, but who knows what's the right way now....
Still, Merlin has to get his magic back, the show should not end with Merlin having no magic....

  13. They do play it fast and loose with the magic don't they! It doesn't look like there is a right or wrong answer here, just what suits the writers at the time. Either way, I agree with you, I hope Merlin's loss of magic is brief, it wouldn't be right to finish the series with Merlin having no magic.

  14. That's DEFINITELY what's going on. And I have to say this is one of the things that make me angry the most in the entire series. Excalibur...
From the season 1 the people who used it for its incredible powers are actually Uther(!!! even though he wasn't aware of it) and Merlin.
I hate the fact that Arthur doesn't know it's power! And now even Morgana can get one?! I mean, seriously, are you kidding me, writers?

  15. wow this looks absolutely amazing...i think these will be really classic as promised.

iI was shocked by the bit about Merlin losing his magic. iI wonder how that will work out.

i am curious about one bit in particular...did any of you also notice Gwen and Arthur in a tent? it looked as if they had just kissed...or is it just me?

  16. Oh wow, this look so amazing *_* Can't wait!

  17. Will Arthur finally know Merlin secret? I hope it a happy ending and arthur survives

and Arthur has no idea the dragon come to help Camelot........I think Merlin must have called him and I think we know the great dragon cant be killed easily...........I want to see merlin vs morgana battle using magic to their end.......

  18. bring back exhilbur.........to the final episode as it more powerful than a regular sword......damn it why did they never explore it more how powerful it is

  19. This look amazing too, can't wait to watch!!!!

  20. Phew, this looks incredible - Merlin losing his magic.....It looks so painful!

  21. The preview looks amazing. Though I fear that Arthur will never learn about Merlin's magic and that they will spend those last two episode apart :(

I guess Sandi didn't see ep12 yet since there are no teasers?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I get the impression that the BBC is keeping a very tight lid on the finale.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Same, I don't think we'll get any teasers from Sandy. I think the reason they're showing both episodes so close to eachother is to reduce the chance of any spoilers.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I thought it was just to get good ratings. People care more about who got the highest ratings on Christmas eve than who got the highest ratings on the 29th December and Merlin has consistently done well in the ratings and is likely to pull big numbers for its series finale.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Hey Sandi, just wondering do you know when you get to see the press preview for this so you can upload dialogue teasers etc, Thanks!

  26. If you look round the merlin network live journal you might find an answer you seek.

  27. Is that Kilgarrah or Aithusa breathing fire on everyone? Can't really make it out.

    ReplyDelete
  28. There isn't a preview up for anyone atm I'm afraid, not sure if there will be or if it's restricted.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'm not sure, but I have a feeling that it's Aithusa because of the sword Smirkgana has in the promo photos.

  30. I find it ironic how Morgana lost her powers in 'The Sword And The Stone' (series 4 finale) and now Merlin has lost his powers in 'The Diamond Of The Day' (series 5 finale). Karma much?

    ReplyDelete
  31. so i take it because its the final ep 12 this week then two days later ep 13 that we wont get any spoiler free reviews, hints, teasers so it will all be a surprise to us.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If you're desperate for a spoiler apparently Alexander Vlahos did an interview that gives away a MAJOR spoiler. I haven't read it as I'm trying to go spoiler lite this week (teasers are fine, major spoilers not so much) and for all I know the major spoiler is something that is already in the trailer. Although the fact that the fan site I originally read this on has pulled that post makes me wonder if it really is major and maybe Alex got carried away. I hope he hasn't gotten himself in trouble. If you want to find the interview just type "alexander vlahos spoiler" into google.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I do not think that Alex got carried away. At this late stage nothing will harm the viewing figures. It IS a major spoiler. Enjoy it!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Yeah, well Alex Vlahos certainly gave us one (a majopr spoiler) in the interview mentioned above. However I think that this was quite deliberate (I am sure he must have had the green light from the producers) because what he said will rather boost the viewing figures than harm them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for that, its impossible to tell without actually reading it! Hmmm, the only thing I can think of boosting figures would be Arthur finding out about Merlin. I was afraid it was 'someone important dies'. I'm not sure I want to know this spoiler, if it is as brilliant as the magic reveal I don't think I could stand waiting until Saturday, I'd want it NOW!

I'd admire me for my patience only if it were Saturday and I still hadn't read it! I now have a 5 day battle with my self-control!

    ReplyDelete
  36. LOL. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you :D

    ReplyDelete
  37. awwww shame! I really hope there will be a preview on offer......... this week is going to feel so long!!!
