Welcome to SpoilerTV's weekly edition of Fringe Friday!
The Peteserver storyline now feels a bit like it was a diversion that was meant to bridge the Etta-is-killed plotline with the Peter+Olivia are on the same page plotline... But, we're better for it because the team seems like they're ready to come together for their last stand. However, before we do that, it seems as though we're in for another...uhm...trip into the increasingly convoluted and enticing mind of our very own Walter Bishop, and we may yet finally hear from the mysterious Donald!
I feel as though our current story of the misplaced tapes and the mysterious helper is barely strung together to be mysterious but maybe not pay off so much...However, I will keep the faith and hope they have everything just the way they want it!
Today's topic: What storyline in Fringe's 5-season history just did not sit well with you...or what storyline did you think was useless/extraneous or could've been handled better?
Let us know your thoughts below in the comments! HAPPY FRINGE FRIDAY, FOLKS!

Happy Fringe Friday everyone! While I enjoyed seeing Altlivia get close to Lee, the whole baby storyline never felt like it paid off for me...(even if I did like how they swept it all under the rug and got past it) and now poor Henry is lost to oblivion... (At least we have Henrietta now!?)
ReplyDeleteI personally feel the whole amber time line is very piece-meal at times with a slap-bang aspect to the quantum mechanic side of it (which is what makes me skeptical of 'what kind of reality' it really is...)
ReplyDeleteI really liked the idea early on in s4 with "effect before the cause" (cassamir effect) and the idea that Peter could be a source for causing things in the amber time line.
I think for me, the one thing I hope to have a more decisive explanation for is why Peter's return is truly important, considering the many losses and the struggles? -I think we need to know how the fight with the Observers relates to our first 3 season beginnings.
I agree with Wilson that the perception of Henry being "bad" is also unclear, which is why I hope we go back to our former time line in the end, where both Bishop children can live on.
I agree that the idea of the Amber (altered) timeline - which the show is still in! - has been very disappointing. It seemed to be used to fix what the producers saw as "problems" with Seasons 1-3, such as: 1) the red world Fringe was more evil than needed for a reconciliation with the Blue team, 2) the Peter-Bolivia liaison that led to baby Henry - apparently a first try at starting to fix #1 and 3) the premature death of David Robert Jones (among others killed off). In some ways, series for me ended a second before Peter "disappeared" during the penultimate scene of Season 3.
ReplyDeleteI'm not that happy with the timeline of the Observers invasion. Never made sense why they wouldn't try to stop Jones and Bell's scheme, or why they waited 3 years after Brave New World to invade. Before Letters of Transit aired, I wrote up a timeline that actually made a bit more sense (in that the Observers invasion was first and foremost to stop Jones and Bell).
ReplyDeleteI agree it is bothersome that we don't understand their timing and/or have yet to have a connection back to amber Bell and Jones...
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to September's Notebook (a Fringe encyclopedia) that according to it's description seems like it might explain/give insights into some of these things that we don't understand, as I can understand why the writers might not have had the time to tell the whole story.
I think the idea of seeing time line rearrangements and seeing the possible differences certain variables can make is very interesting, but I think it's perplexing to try and figure out the Observers logic in s1-3 in terms of September leading Peter to the machine, not interfering with Henry (which amber time line September deems as "bad", which season1-3 Peter's existence was also deemed "bad") and then figure out these Observers logic here, when in the beginning of season 4 Peter's return is a threat, but that after Brave New World that idea is dropped and the Observers come, invade, but yet don't all just pounce on Peter....the only thing that makes sense to me is if the Amber time line is ethereal (Bardo/Death) and Peter basically chose death to cause reciprocity and balance to the corporeal red and blue time lines, and somehow is able to return 'home' to them before the show ends...but we'll see...
ReplyDeleteGiven that there were originally supposed to be seven seasons, I can imagine there's a lot of story left to tell.
ReplyDeleteThat's how it should be =O
ReplyDeleteI should begin writing after this season is done to fill my fringe's needs.
