  5. The Event was a great Finale, but don't work for me like a Séries Finale
just a Season Finale leaving us with a cliffhanger, but
    was a great show... =)

    ReplyDelete
  6. The Thick Of It, assuming the fourth series was the last one. It's a masterpiece of television, I cried watching the last episode and it's supposed to be political satire. Just glorious, Malcolm Tucker is one of the best character ever.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Six Feet Under, Damages and Desperate Housewives.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I agree with third watch and also Angel was brill.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Damages...
I forgot that when i submit the poll =(
can tou fix that mistake Andy?

  12. ..my friend the person that delete the comment was that post a very bad and out of contest opinion about my favorites series ending

    ReplyDelete
  13. haven't seen that many shows that have ended (and that knew beforehand) so i'd have to say Friends, One Tree Hill, The OC, Smallville

    ReplyDelete
  14. i don't see the comment but,shame for him

  15. LOST, Alias, Caprica, Firefly, Felicity, Frasier, Battlestar Galactica (although there are few things about BSG's ending I did not like).

I personally think LOST's ending was the most misunderstood. Death wasn't the end, it was a transition (ethereal plane), leading to rebirth of another iteration of the time line. The Island was this great mysterious time machine that promoted life extension through facing existentialism. I loved that it stayed true to it's title concept by not directly spelling these things out, because it allowed us to be in the perspective of most of the main characters. It's a finale I will never forget for it's bitter sweet reveals and it's hopeful conclusion that as long as there is an Island and will to fight to save it, then there are infinity chances to go through hell and back to get to a better place in life.

  16. LOST, followed closely by The Wire and Six Feet Under. Hopefully Breaking Bad will be in the discussion for a spot up there come next September.

    ReplyDelete
  17. 1st The Killing
    2nd Dead Like Me
    3rd House
    4th SGU
I suspect in 3 months these will all be bumped down a spot for Fringe

  18. ...agree about battle and alias because the other series never following but they were very good

    ReplyDelete
  19. Friends, Charmed and Sex & The City - all great!

    ReplyDelete
  20. ..THANKS ...you are a great friend.,.gentlemen,.and good boss

  21. I didn't think The Event's last episode (or entire season) was that great. The entire ''climax'' of the season (with the villain - I don't even remember her name - preparing an attack inside an airport) came down to the main character running after the bad alien woman and telling her ''you don't have to do this'', which she agreed to. We didn't even get an answer to what the show's title actually meant! ''Yeah, check out the scrolls.'' Meh.

    ReplyDelete
  22. NOT Lost, that is for sure. Sadly I was not one of the people that loved how it ended.

I voted for Six Feet Under. Friends also had a great end.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd have to say THE SHIELD, The Wire comes in a close second. I didn't like Alias' ending for 2 reasons, we'd been told over and over that Rambaldi wasn't about immortality and then the convoluted Horizon was just that, and they made Sloane and Irina complete cardboard villains in the end. Especially the way they handled Irina bugged me very much.

I wasn't crazy about Lost's ending because the mythology in the end wasn't handled well for me. Mind you, I'm not saying it wasn't explained enough, I can do with a lot of blanks but I did NOT like the direction it took in the last season. But when I completely shut out the mythology (which is hard because the mythology/overall storyline are usually what I find most interesting about any show), I can -appreciate- the finale on an emotional, character-driven level, which is apparently all it was meant to be anyway :-).

And yeah, Damages was very good as well!

And lastly, if I could vote for a series finale that hasn't aired yet :p, I'm pretty damn sure Breaking Bad is going to be awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeahh
    I agree
The Shield was a great finale too
so many shows and i just can remember all
About Breakin Bad i'm expeting a great finale too

  25. One of my favourite series finales has to have been the Dawson's Creek finale, what a tear jerker :'(

    ReplyDelete
  26. oh, or maybe Friday Night Lights

    ReplyDelete
  27. I won't put Farscape because for me, Farscape is NOT over. But to answer : Third Watch (best tv show with cops, paramedics and firefighters), Quantum Leap, John Doe (despite it's a cliffhanger). Charmed finale : so sad. Invisible Man (2000) : quite great but it sounds not like a definitive ending, the complete ending would have been Darien without the gland. BSG 2001 finale : letdown.

While there were are lot of questions about the finale, to see the characters have a happy ending, and to have the series end on a note of hope and possibility was satisfying.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Yes to expecting a great Breaking Bad finale.

    ReplyDelete
  30. While I do not know all the shows in the poll, Lost was my favorite series ever and the finale was my favorite episode ever. While I understand why some people hated it, I really enjoyed it and thought it was beautifully done while leaving me a sense of much deserved closeness.

    ReplyDelete
  31. None of the above. For me the best series finale in recent history was EUReKA.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I was also a big fan of the battlestar galactica finale, although some minor things could have been better (no proper kara explanation for instance), but i loved the overall concept. The prison break finale was also very good, although it wasn't this "high concept" type of finales, but neither was the show, so it was very fitting.

The Shield, hands down. Mackey ending up in what's basically purgatory without friends or family was a perfect way to end everything.

  34. The Mary Tyler Moore show, with that walking group hug, was the best I've seen. Lost follows that. It had me in tears at several points. After that, The Sopranos. Really, I liked it.

I haven't seen a lot of the above finales, although I've heard good things about the Six Feet Under one. I'm in middle of an Angel watch, so haven't seen the finale yet. Buffy's was pretty good. The Wire's was just fine, but I'm not going to say it was the best. I really liked last season's American Horror Story's ending. Didn't much like the Friends' finale. Hated Seinfeld's finale.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lost!!!!! Without a doubt!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Ah, yes, BSG! I forgot about that one. I found it quite enjoyable as well. I remember a big part of the fandom was disgruntled that the whole story took place 'in our past', but I didn't mind that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Sledge Hammer!

What was intended to be the series finale was so good, it actually earned the show an extra season.

    ReplyDelete
  38. can i say none of them?

    ReplyDelete
  39. I really enjoyed that twist and it's one of those that if you look back you sort of see it all coming full circle, so it was very fitting. However, some things should have been done in a different way. I have always thought that they could have had all the technology being destroyed by accident rather than just having lee suggesting that they were to leave it all behind and everyone following, that part was not believable for me. That and the kara bit annoyed me a bit. everything else was extremely satisfying, even though seeing president laura roslin dying always kills me! but yeah loved it ;)

  40. B5 would certainly make my top 5. Would love to see another show with a 5 year story arc written out in advance.

Lost started out great, but as they added in season after season, they added in so many random things that they had no plans for how to resolve them. It was such a jumbled mess of contradictions by the end that there was no way to end it in a way to please everyone.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Finales I liked (although I haven't seen THAT many)

LOST - Just a great ending to the show. The only complaint I really have is that the first half is kind of slow. Everyone keeps talking about the actual last scene, but there's more to the episode. :p Jack vs MIB was probably the best fight scene I've seen on tv. And while I expected more from the final season as a whole, I actually did like how it ended. The death in the very last moment of the show was beautifully done.

Awake - Surprised no one mentioned this one, but I guess not that many people watched it. For an unexpected finale (the show was cancelled) it was so satisfying. Such a huge mindf*ck too. It's not really clear what actually happened at the end, but at least there was a conclusion, and everyone could interpret it in their own way.

House - Nothing mindblowing, but still pretty good. It was just great seeing all the characters again. There was no real need to show the hospital stuff (especially since House wasn't even there) and it was strange that they didn't explain how House ended up in the burning building in the first place, but other than that I really liked it. It was a good exploration of the show's main character - especially the scenes in which he imagined a ''better life'' - and seeing everyone talking about him at the funeral was great.

Hopefully I can add Fringe, Breaking Bad and Dexter next year!

  42. Charmed. Perfect wrap up.

  43. "Would love to see another show with a 5 year story arc written out in advance."
Oh god yes. What JMS did is unparalleled, IIRC he wrote the 4th season all by himself, all of the twenty-something episodes.
actually, season 5 wasn't really good with the those uppity alternative douchebag telepaths. I mean, they all dressed like misunderstood college student The Cure-fans, their leader was called Byron, he always quoted Shakespeare or something, AND he got to nail Lyta...

    ReplyDelete
  44. Six Feet Under from that list, no doubt. But BSG had an awesome finale that really tied things up and was actually quite a surprise.

The list is actually quite weak to be honest.

    ReplyDelete
  45. One Tree Hill and Friends.. How can Lost be in the top, it had one of the worst endings ever!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Season 5 didn't quite go according to plan because Claudia Christian quit the show with little warning, forcing JMS to do some rewrites (giving Ivanova and Marcus a lame ending, and putting other people into the roles they would have filled). I will never forgive her for that. I get a perverse sense of pleasure seeing her starring on shows like Starhyke, which was by far the worst show I have ever seen.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Obviously the majority don't agree with you :)

I personally thought it was fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well, i never understood why people hated the LOST finale... I really loved it...

The premise of the show was about a flawed group of people that started growing all together, not about the magical powers of the island.

It's finale stayed true to that: Live together, die alone... They lived and died together...

Also, i absolutely loved the Friends finale.

  49. If Damon and Carlton saw this poll results they would cry out of joy.. At the end Lost taught me that if you want to be happy in life, you have to always be prepared to let go.

    ReplyDelete
  50. The Shield was great because it kind of went against what the audience expected (that Vic would get jail time or maybe die) and yet in a way his fate was just the worse thing that could happen to him, completely without power.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Lost and BSG are probably my two favourites, yes I have a thing for finales most people tend to hate on. Also Angel and Buffy were great in different ways.

    ReplyDelete
  52. also, I think during the writing of season 4 it was not sure if Fox will give them another season, so JMS had to trim the main story arc to 4 years, and write another story for the last.
it wasn't bad though, just weird. I even liked Crusade a bit, with DANIEL DAE KIM.
fhew, I'm lucky he was on Crusade, otherwise I would be quite off-topic for a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  53. As much as I love Lost it did take me awhile to become okay with the ending of it, I understood, it I just couldn't accept it at first.

24 was pretty good, pretty true to the character since we knew he couldn't just settle down.

House's ending was satisfying since it showed that House really did care about Wilson more than his career and the puzzle, so that ended on an incredibly happy note.

Scrubs, the TRUE finale (Season 8), was probably the best finale that comes to mind though.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Aww now I'm curious what the comment was... good riddance to him though if he conducts himself in such a bad manner.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Life on Mars (US)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, it did get dropped, but TNT picked it up.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I haven't watched 6 feet under yet, but I always hear how great the finale is. Out of this list, I'd have to say Lost, then 24... Angel was great but it always felt that there was more to be told (and it continued in the comics) I also give a nod to BSG and Buffy

    ReplyDelete
  58. Six Feet Under - I still tear up everytime I hear Sia's Breathe Me :,(

    ReplyDelete
  59. Friends, Desperate Housewives and Charmed

    ReplyDelete
  60. Charmed, Smallville and Roswell

    ReplyDelete
  61. Yes! Dollhouse! I'd quite forgotten about that little show. I liked how the finale was handled with the Epitaph One episode(s).

    ReplyDelete
  62. Yeah those are indeed two things that felt a bit off but I could live with them as well. The scene where Adama has burried Roslin and just talks to her about the view, with that lovely camera shot that goes all the way round where he sits/her burial site, is just perfect.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I haven't seen any of these so would have to go Alias, Dawsons Creek or Friends. They all tied the character stories up nicely.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Exactly. These are the two things that I would have done differently, but they don't take away the greatness of the finale. That Adama scene is amazing. Personally, i also love the athena/hello/era scene walking by the camp talking about hunting. So simple yet so good. But then again, i was a huuuge athena and hello fan so i am biased. God, i miss battlestar!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Other = Friends and Smallville.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Lost!!! I loved every minute of the show and the series finale did not disappoint. Wish lost was still on

    ReplyDelete
  67. From the ones given above, I would pick Angel, but there are better Series Finales, like Friends, Dawsons´s Creek, Buffy, etc.

The list is -with a few exceptions- actually a good poll for "What´s the WORST series finale"

    ReplyDelete
  68. Love you, Lost. Peace.

    ReplyDelete
  69. It totally was!!! I get the wiggles just thinking about their little reunion!

    ReplyDelete
  70. And how about this one: "I know about farming, you know." God so much emotion in one sentence!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Agreed! Battlestar definitely had a very emotional finale (although I don't think any finale can beat the lost finale as far as emotion is concerned, i was a mess with that one)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Has to be Charmed and Friends.

Desperate Housewives was okay but not what i hoped. Lost was good!!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Lost had a horrible ending people.

    ReplyDelete
  74. In your opinion. I thought it was fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Friends and Buffy too.
I have no idea how Lost got on top of that poll.

    ReplyDelete
  76. MASH
    Star Trek: The Next Generation
    Charlie's Angels (Original series)
    Harry's Law

    ReplyDelete
  77. Battlestar Galactica beats 'em all! I'm shocked no one has mentioned Dollhouse! This was one of those rare gems that wrap a mindblowing perfect story in 26 episodes. Buffy's finale(both) was also amazing, others are Friends or Six Feet Under.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Boston Legal, and before that, the second Bob Newhart show - that may have been the best ending ever.
