SAM PUTS A TRACKER ON BENNY — Sam (Jared Padalecki) asks a hunter named Martin (guest star Jon Gries) to keep an eye on Benny (guest star Ty Olsson) without telling Dean (Jensen Ackles). However, when Martin tells Sam there was a vampire kill and he thinks Benny is responsible, Dean defends his friend. When Martin decides to take things into his own hands, things get messy and Dean is forced to make a very hard decision. Nick Copus directed the episode written by Daniel Loflin.

Oh shit, I'm scared. Cannot wait for this, though!
ReplyDeleteSeems to be one more boring episode of melodrama and emotions and the worst part is, the issues are between two guys. I am seriously sick of this. Can't we get some demon a$$-kicking on the show or some solid MoTWs please.
ReplyDeleteWhoever writes these has to learn not to give away the whole darn plot in one sentence. SPN lost the art of surprise, and so it probably implies exactly what is going to happen.
ReplyDeleteAgreed.
ReplyDeleteOh boy, that doesn't sound good. :I
ReplyDeleteWell, there's the return of the angst I was hoping to avoid. I know they just passed over it completely tonight, but I thought maybe that meant we were getting past it. I should have known better.
ReplyDeleteI expected it to be back as we already got a short version of this earlier, but still not looking forward to it. Can't wait for things to clear up.
ReplyDeleteTonight's episode was such a nice break from Sam and Dean being at each other's throats figuratively.
I guess this episode isn't going to be a laugh riot.
ReplyDeleteRight so Sam engages the services of another hunter and he does what hunters do - surprise. So at the end of this one after it all goes t*ts up Dean either clings to Sam because Sam's new outlook is right and his isn't or he starts making decisions based on what is rather than just going with loyalty then?
ReplyDeleteOh fun with rainbows and unicorns then.
sounds good
ReplyDeletetwo things-
-Sam wont be right
-if they didnt have the boys at odds with each other Sam pretty much wouldnt have anything to do
I think the difficult descision Dean has to make is seperating from Sam and going off with Benny, but it wont be for long. I recon Benny will show his true colours in the end and Dean will put him down. I'm nor sure the whole Benny thing is supposed to be an issue in the second half of the season, I think that part of the storyline is supposed to be done by mid season but the Purgatory stuff will continue through Cas.
Its obvious Sam and Dean will be ok with each other quite quickly as though Dean and Benny work together in episode 9 and maybe 10? the boys are back together in episode 11, 12 and so on.
Also the Sam/Amelia stuff gets heavier around mid season and into the second half of the season so its possible Sam goes off to see Amelia for real while Dean is with Benny. Which is why I think they are seperated for a while (a bout an episode).
I'm really, REALLY ready to see Dean and Sam on the same page again. I don't think pitting them against each other over Benny is doing anything positive for the show. It's way past time that we actually see that they're brothers that care about each other, because this constant angst between them is dragging the show down imo.
ReplyDeleteWell, I was hoping that we wouldn't have Sam and Dean fighting again, but I guess it's going to happen and it isn't going to be pretty. I'm thinking Dean is going to pick Benny at the end of the episode and that's going to be our cliffhanger for the winter break. (Hence, why the former title of episode 8x10 was "Don't Stop Believing.")
ReplyDeleteI don't think Sam is going to be the good guy in the episode, because they have been beating up on Sam all season and making him the wrong guy. So, I'm not hopeful for this episode. I would be really surprise if Sam isn't the bad guy, but they have set Benny's story really sympathetically with Benny being the guy who helped Dean get out of Purgatory and Sam's the guy who left Dean in Purgatory with a nasty girlfriend and doesn't want to hunt anymore. Everyone has a really interesting sympathetic connection to the mythology story and Sam doesn't. So, he's on his own and that doesn't bode well.
But then again it might be a turning point. Sam calls Martin, Martin thinks Benny is evil, Sam and Dean fight, Dean goes off to prove Benny's innocence, Benny and Dean find the real bad guy, real bad buy kills Martin, Benny and Dean kill the bad guy, and Sam looks like an idiot for not trusting Dean.
I don't think there is going to be anything surprising for the episode, but I'm going to be upset if they do in fact split up Sam and Dean because they said they were doing these flashbacks so they DID NOT HAVE TO SPLIT THE BROTHERS UP SINCE "THE FANS HATE IT." And if they can split Sam and Dean up for melodrama angst, then why in the world couldn't they have used the first few episodes of the season with Dean fighting in Purgatory and Sam fighting on Earth??? So, I'll cry foul on that one! That wouldn't have threaten the foundation of the show!
But the only way this episode will surprise me if one of these things happen: (1) Benny does turn out to be up to something, (2) Sam isn't the bad brother and doesn't get back over by bus that's already ran over him earlier this season after all his past characterization was thrown out the window, (3) There is a twist concerning Sam and/or Benny that no one could have predicted, but makes sense with Sam's flashbacks and knowledge of Benny (but that's a long shot since neither Jensen or Jared know what is up with Sam and why he didn't look), (4)Benny kills Martin and Dean covers it up, (5) We figure out who was standing outside of Sam and Amelia's house showing there is something more happening, (6) Dean sides with Sam without selling Benny down the river, and (7) Anything that doesn't involve the brothers fighting, Sam being the bad guy, Martin dying, and Dean having to choose between Benny and Sam.
Of course, if anything happens that's on this list, I guess, it isn't much of a surprise (Haha), but the last time I was really surprised by the show was "Time After Time" and how well they balanced that episode. (I'm not including Sam not looking for Dean, because I don't think out of character characterization is suppose to be a surprise.) Still, I'm not sure about this episode, because one thing is certain: the brothers are most likely fighting over Benny again. And I'm still enjoying the peace and refreshing air that was 8x07 with Sam and Dean NOT FIGHTING and taking care of each other. That really shouldn't be fresh air that should be the oxygen of the show.
Other theory that could surprise, Martin has gone nutty again and the so called vamp deaths are him. But Dean thinks it is Benny and decides to end Benny. Sam works out it is Martin but doesn't get to Dean in time before his brother off's his friend.
