-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led the midweek troops in the overnights, which featured the head-to-head 8-10 p.m. battle of The Voice on NBC versus The X Factor on Fox. The added competition did not negatively impact Survivor: Philippines on CBS, which tied the first hour of The Voice with a 6.7/10. Year-to-year, The Voice more than doubled the overnight performance of year-ago occupant Up All Night (original and repeat: avg. 3.1/ 5 on 11/09/11), while Survivor: Philippines perked up by three percent from the South Pacific edition one year earlier (6.5/10 on 11/09/11). Departed Jeff Kent last night was the definition of a sore loser. As for Lisa Whelchel: Go Blair!
ABC’s combination of sitcoms The Middle (#3: 6.0/ 9) and recent entry The Neighbors (#4: 4.4/ 7) finished third overall in the overnights in the 8 p.m. hour, followed by the first hour of The X Factor on Fox (4.9/ 7) and freshman CW hit Arrow (2.8/ 4). Comparably, Arrow built by 211 percent from a repeat of America’s Next Top Model on the year-ago evening (0.9/ 1 on 11/09/11), while retention for The Neighbors out of The Middle was modest at 73 percent.
Results among adults 18-49 should sway in favor of The Voice on NBC, no doubt.
At 9 p.m., Modern Family on ABC led the evening with an 8.3/13 in the overnights, but the second hour of The Voice finished No. 2 in the time period overall (behind Criminal Minds on CBS) with a 6.8/10. Comparably, that beat the second half of The X Factor on Fox (4.9/ 7) by a hefty 39 percent. Overall, The Voice averaged a 6.8/10 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. versus a 4.9/ 7 for The X Factor. As for Khloe Kardashian as one of the new co-hosts on The X Factor, the password is…awkward.
Tops in the 9 p.m. hour in the overnights was aforementioned Criminal Minds on CBS with an 8.0/13, which built from the 8:30 p.m. portion of Survivor (6.8/10) by 18 percent. Elsewhere, sophomore Suburgatory on ABC slipped to a third-place 5.2/ 8 at 9:30 p.m., which was 37 percent below Modern Family. And tired Supernatural on The CW sunk to a 1.5/ 5 2 at 9 p.m., which was 47 percent below lead-in Arrow. Now that The CW has a bona fide hit, it needs to put the lead-out hour to better use.
Modern Family versus The Voice among adults 18-49 is likely to fall in ABC’s favor.
At 10 p.m., veteran CSI on CBS remained first in the overnights with a 7.0/13. Comparably, that was nine percent above the year-ago evening (6.4/11 on 11/09/11). Next was Chicago Fire on NBC, which rose to a series-high 4.9/ 9 thanks to the lead-in support from The Voice. Expect a back-nine episode order for the new Dick Wolf drama at any moment. Five-week overnight track for Chicago Fire: 4.7/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.3/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.9/ 9.
On ABC, recent drama entry Nashville finished third at 10 p.m. with a 4.5/ 8 in the overnights. But that was, comparably, an increase of seven percent from one week earlier. Five-week overnight track for Nashville: 6.8/12 – 5.0/ 9 – 4.8/ 8 – 4.2/ 7 – 4.5/ 8.

Wow CSI,after all these years and your still going strong...thanks in part to D.B.!
ReplyDeleteThis season is getting really good! The latest episode wasn't the strongest but it was better than what we were getting last season. Let's just hope it gets better and better :)
ReplyDelete...and let the SPN bashing commence!
ReplyDeletePleased to see Arrow is still doing well though.
I think Supernatural should move back to Friday nights with Nikita, so that The CW can use the post-Arrow time-slot in midseason to launch its new series Cult.
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy Chicago Fire seems to be doing so well. I'm really enjoying the show.
ReplyDeleteThe Voice kicked The X factor ass! o/
ReplyDeleteThis guy is seriously biased, and he really does copy-paste with the spn rating every week. he hates spn and we notice that in his unprofessional reports.
ReplyDeleteCult is replacing either Beauty and the Beast or Emily Owens midseason
ReplyDeleteArrow and SPN are working well together - Why ruin it?
ReplyDeleteAnd of course he complains about SPN again. He apparently has nothing better to do with his time.
ReplyDeleteSPN is doing great. It's the 3rd best rating of the channel and the combo Arrow+Spn is very appealing for people. There is no reason to move back anything.
ReplyDeleteI don't like it when networks start shifting shows around once the season starts. Leave it be until next season.
ReplyDeleteYou know what the hilarious thing about Berman's copy and paste this week is? The fact that it is up 0.2 from last week 1.3 to 1.5. Also it's highest Household rating of the year was 1.7 the night Arrow premiered.
ReplyDeleteBut then again people know Berman's a joke. He is a big Household rating and Retentionista guy. Only reason why his name is even known is because he gets the ratings out the quickest.
It's also obvious he has no clue Supernatural is actually the 3rd highest rated show on the network in the ratings that matter.
But ya go ahead CW move your 3rd highest rated show for your 6th or 7th highest rated show and see if that improves the retention.
I mean it's obvious he is hinting at Nikita to be moved to Wednesday at 9pm, Nikita's the only show other than Supernatural on the CW that could go with Arrow. But he won't say Nikita should be moved there because he knows it wouldn't just be Supernatural fans that think he is a joke, it would be his peers. TVBTN would have a field day if Berman suggested CW should move Nikita to 9pm on Wednesday
It may be too soon to talk about renewal but I think CSI is still a strong show for CBS so why cancel it ?
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think he is doing this on purpose, just for us to laugh and have fun.
ReplyDeleteI think it's safe for at least another year. When this season finishes airing they will have 295 episodes, surely they'd renew for the syndication value alone (300+ episodes), plus the ratings are still pretty good. I'm hoping for an extended order of 24 episodes this year but that's unlikely unless the ratings really start to climb. Fingers crossed :P
ReplyDeleteIf you question him on his site's forum about it he won't respond. Like I just saw someone on there posted about CW's 18-49 and how the only thing that would be an improvement for Wednesday is if they moved Vampire Diaries to the 9pm spot. Doubt he responds.
ReplyDeleteJust a very clear personal bias against it.
If this dude ever came by a SPN convention(even accidentally) he would not leave in one piece.Supernatural is doing great you loser!!!!
ReplyDeleteLast weeks 1.0 for Arrow and 0.8 for SPN would suugest 1. Arrow isnt really that much of a hit and 2. SPN is doing really bloody well for an 8 year old show. Even a Retentionista like Mr Berman cant be that blind to see that SPN holding onto that much of its lead in's demo is really good and really commendable.
ReplyDeleteAll I can say is this guy is a moron who knows very little about how ratings actually work
its doing ok for a drama on NBC
ReplyDeleteunlikely, the CW will most likely cncal Emily Owens, move Beauty to Tuesday at 9pm and launch Cult out of their best lead TVD.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I also think he just cuts and pastes his SPN comment. It's the same every single week. Dude, we get it. You hate the show. That's fine. Move on. Or expand your vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteSPN is doing great this year for a CW show. Very happy with it's ratings and that Arrow is still doing so well. Good combo, these 2 shows.
CSI is safe, no way will CBS cancel their strongest 10pm show also they typically only cancel around 3 shows a season to launch around 3 new shows in the fall. CSI is too high up the ratings table to warrant cancelation.
ReplyDeleteShows in danger are
Mentalist, The Good Wife, CSI:NY and Vegas add to that the already cancelled Made In Jersey and the yet unpremiered Golden Boy and as you can see CSI fans have nothing to worry about
I LOVE SPN on Wednesdays, if for nothing else that we don't have to drudge through the entire week anymore for new eppy. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking for the ratings of nuderemployed on MTV.... Thx
ReplyDeleteWe don't get ratings for that network, sorry.
ReplyDeletethey can't leave them where they are because their fall schedule may be a trainwreck (for example, the majority of ABC's new shows have not been out of the park hits like Revenge and OUAT).
ReplyDeleteYou're talkin about who? DarkUFO ? *very surprised*
ReplyDeleteYeah, Supernatural did terribly this week, I mean a season high 1.0 18-49 rating is SOOO BAD ;)
ReplyDeleteyou, BearMAN!!! Choose between hell, lucy's cage, or purgatory cuz I'll send you THERE right now! you're a writer DO NOT copy paste your previous comment!! SPN is doin great for a CW show and don't forget. it's on their 8 season!!
ReplyDeleteand, YAY for the voice!! They beats XFactor! LoL
lol, Berman.
ReplyDeleteBeauty will move to either Tues or Fri at 9 -Tues in place of Emily Owens or Fri in place of Arrow reruns in Jan or not get a full season and end in jan while Cult will air after VD likley(though CW should stop using VD as launch pad cause no show of the three new showsvthey've put after it have succeeded
ReplyDeleteCancelling is one thing, it happens. But just shifting schedules, I don't like. Moving a show only confuses people and they never do any better.
ReplyDeleteHow you can say that supernatural is a loser with a 1.0 , are great numbers we are in the eighth season and is the third most watched show of CW
ReplyDeleteKlutzy_girl wasn't talking about Dark, she was talking about Berman, the guy who reports on the ratings.
ReplyDeleteEww I think Arrow also did 1.01 last week or two weeks ago. So I think now you guys are right.
ReplyDeleteOh i understand better. That's ridiculous because Arrow also did 1.0% last week (or two weeks ago, I d on't remember). Thank you for the precision.
ReplyDeleteI noticed the change when L.Fishburn left the show.IMO his take on his character just didn't bring anything to the show. D.B.'s character on the other hand works really well.It certainly is getting better.. :)
ReplyDeleteDamn, SPN did great this week! Ratings were up.
ReplyDeleteAnd yay, Nashville went up too! Please continue on this path.
Exactly. And Vampire Diaries is doing fine where it is so there is no reason to move that. To me, all the shows on CW are in the right place.
ReplyDeleteWhat the hell happened the X Factor ratings? Ever since the Live Shows begin, it has been averaging 7 million viewers.
ReplyDeleteDon't like Supernatural then ignore it and let those that do keep tuning in, those are still decent ratings for the CW and for a show in it's 8th season, what's it to you if it keeps going anyway?
ReplyDeleteWho are you talking to?
ReplyDeleteWhat the heck does he want the CW to do? The only thing that would better the night in any way is to put The Vampire Diaries in that 9 PM slot... Supernatural is the third-highest rated show on the network and is doing just fine, thank you very much.
ReplyDelete... This guy is absolutely hilarious. SPN's ratings go UP and he calls it a loser and says that Arrow is a 'bon afide hit' when it only got .3 above SPN this week, and was only .1 above it last week! *facepalms* Idiot critic is an idiot.
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo for SPN! Love seeing those ratings! This season is /definitely/ up, and its got a really strong, interesting story and vibe this year. I actually look forward to each week instead of just preparing to be disappointing! This is the first time since season 5 that I can feel confident about my favorite show!
Seriously.. where is this ratings guy coming from? He's a blind fool.
No kidding. SPN's ratings going up by a million or so viewers? Guess its time to call it quits! *facepalm*
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh SPN fans would tear him apart.... Either he'd be 6 feet under by the following day, or he'd come back with extreme apologies and begging spn fans to leave him alone!
ReplyDeleteIs Beauty and the Beast not doing well? I havne't been paying attention to it. Its an insult to the original series.
ReplyDeleteProbably the critic.
ReplyDeleteI believe Arrow went up this week.It went back to 1.3 In demo.I may be wrong on total viewers. But,it's a hit.I am not a fan of supernatural but doudtful It's going anywhere, and If actors are still under contract It will be renewed.Supernatural will only end when contracts expire.
ReplyDeletewhat a dick! again hating on SPN rating please we heard this before its doing good on wed just let it go allready its going to have a 9th season anyway and maybe a 10th so who cares about rating I don't its still a great show no mater what happens.
