-Ratings Breakdown:
The Houston Texans at the Chicago Bears on Sunday Night Football led NBC to victory with an estimated 13.7 rating/21 share in the overnights from 8:30-11 p.m. Earlier in the evening was pre-game Football Night in America at a 1.9/ 3 at 7 p.m. (#4), a 2.5/ 4 at 7:30 p.m. (#4) and a 7.0/11 at 8 p.m. (#2). Keep in mind, as always, that results for any live sporting event are approximate.
Football was also beneficial overall to Fox, which scored an estimated 14.4/24 for a primetime football overrun in the 7 p.m. hour. Football on Fox also bled into the 8 p.m. half-hour, which means that the overnight results for The Simpsons (#3t, 6.4/10 at 8 p.m.), Bob’s Burgers (#4: 3.7/ 5 at 8:30 p.m.) and the 200th episode of an expanded Family Guy (#4: 3.7/ 5 from 9-10 p.m.) are approximate.
Over at CBS, older-skewing granddaddy 60 Minutes (which will outlive us all) was on the map with an 8.9/15 in the overnights from 7-8 p.m. Next was Emmy winning The Amazing Race (#2: 6.3/10 at 8 p.m.), which was down by 11 percent year-to-year, followed by scripted dramas The Good Wife (#2: 7.0/10) and relocated The Mentalist (#2: 7.1/12) from 9-11 p.m., which compared to former year-ago occupant CSI: Miami (6.8/11 on 11/13/11) was up by four percent.
On ABC, the 500th episode of veteran America’s Funniest Home Videos (which debuted on January 14, 1990) finished third in the 7 p.m. hour with a 3.6/ 6 -- down by 14 percent from the year-ago evening (4.2/ 7 on 11/13/11). Next was sophomore Once Upon a Time (#3: 5.7/ 9 at 8 p.m.), which dropped by 23 percent from the 7.4/11 one year earlier, followed by an also below-average performance for relocated Revenge (#3: 5.1/ 8) and a series-low 3.3/ 6 for recent entry 666 Park Avenue (#3) from 9-11 p.m.. Comparably, waiting-to-be axed 666 Park Avenue dropped by 25 percent from short-lived year-ago occupant Pan Am (4.4/ 7 on 11/13/11). And Revenge, which was down by 22 percent from former occupant Desperate Housewives (6.5/10 on 11/13/11), is not the hit ABC was hoping for on the evening.

Wow,that's a pretty big drop for Once... Even Revenge did poorly, but then again their storyline is getting played out..
ReplyDeleteI'm just gonna wait for the actual number to come out before I comment about Once.
ReplyDeleteThe writer of the article compared the numbers to lastyear instead last week what IMo doesn`t make much sense . Last year at that time Once got an 3,8 18/49 share and over 11 millions viewers. It was one of the first four very high rated episodes. They dropped later and this season too significantly. The demo will be much lower than last weak, my guess is a 3,0/3,1, but it is okay for competing with nearly two football games competing with. We will see ;)
ReplyDeleteARGH! Marc Berman! OUAT was facing not one but 2 football games and you make certain to slam its ratings! I know you hate genre show and will grasp at any straw to make it seem like they are fading AND you refuse to consider the demographic information which is what shows actually get renewed on. Spoiler TV, I know you don't share these views and I appreciate the early reports so thanks for getting them to us. Marc Berman can go soak his head.
ReplyDeleteThis writer fails to understand a basic principle which is that you can not compare ratings across years. I don't know how much any of you know about economics but for instance, in economics you would never compare the price of bread today and a year ago. Why? Because there is this little thing called inflation, which means that all prices change yearly... So year to year comparisons are meaningless unless you adjust by the inflation rate. In this case, year to year comparisons are useless unless you adjust by the overall viewing decline (although this can only be calculated at the end of the year), so yeah... useless!
ReplyDeletesorry but where does he slam OUAT'd ratings exactly?
ReplyDeletePointing out that it's HH rating is down from this time last year is not slamming, its fact.
I felling so bad for Revenge... This series is so amazing, especially last episode!
ReplyDeleteit does seem bizaar to be comparing ratings from one year to the next especially when ratings are generally down year on year and expected to be. Week on week would make more sense and then actaul A18-49 demo ratings would be better still. HH ratings dont really tell us anything important.
ReplyDeleteOUAT is one of the most popular shows at present but in this article (and Marc Bermans articles before) it sounds like OUAT is almost a flop. It's not uninteresting to compare the ratings across the years but the author should explain it better.
ReplyDeleteIt is fact to compare it to last year's ratings. HOWEVER, when Berman seems to like a show or feel in the mood to cut it some slack, he makes sure to make excuses for the ratings based on competition or inflated numbers the previous year. Berman is a columnist and writes an opinion piece BASED on numbers. The table used here is a cold, hard unbiased numbers look. Berman's column is an opinion piece which blatantly goes out of its way to down on shows he doesn't like.
ReplyDeleteOUAT's ratings are still pretty good - Guess Hook really does bring people in!
ReplyDeleteAnd I think they're going to air all thirteen of 666 Park Avenue's episodes before they cancel it.
Ouch Once. :(
ReplyDeleteWow is that a series low for OUAT?
ReplyDeleteVERY BAD DAY FOR ALL THE SERIES!
ReplyDeleteIt's a series low I believe in terms of 18-49 Demo and very close to a series low for Total Viewers.
